"Next time I see it I'm burning it"

So I have this tshirt thats actually from quite a posh brand, it's a grey tshirt made from a really soft drapey cotton and it's dark grey and loose. I love the feel of it and how it moves, it's quite baggy and I wear it round the house.

Theres just one problem which is I left it outside in the garden for a whole winter and when I finally moved myself and brought it in last spring or something obviously I washed it, but now not only does it have a few (very small) holes on it, the fabric is damaged and staind kind of on the front almost like its rusted (if fabric could rust).

So anyway the other day I'm sitting around in it. DP has seen me wear it around before but this time he said "seriously can you not just buy another basic grey lounging tshirt? Next time I see it I'm burning it!"

Kinda lighthearted but where do you stand on wearing decrepit clothing?

Wow... If I really like a piece of clothing then I'm really protective of it. I can't image just leaving something I like out in the rain Shock I kind of admire you for not just throwing it out though!

Maybe if it's your DP who doesn't like it then he could get you a nice replacement for Xmas? Wink

Ha ha ha ha ha! #teamteeshirt #teamOP
I can so relate. Grin

Pandainmyporridge · 25/10/2019 12:49

I'm looking forward to the OP's thread on general health asking "what is this strange looking rash all over my chest?"

Derbee · 25/10/2019 12:49

This is one of those threads you hope is a troll

Totally disagree. I LOVE the thought that there are people looking out the window at their clothes left on the decking for a year, and are still eternally optimistic enough to wash and wear them 😂

gwackywacky · 25/10/2019 12:50

@Derbee great idea! I'll take a pic when I'm back home so you can get a better sense of it.

I know people dress in old clothes at home I was just wondering where people draw the line. Personally I think it looks quite cool and artful the way the stains are although dp clearly disagrees

VanGoghsDog · 25/10/2019 12:51

Dye it?

gwackywacky · 25/10/2019 12:51

@onalongsabbatical we are the 1%!!!

Ginfordinner · 25/10/2019 12:52

I'm struggling to get my head around the idea of someone leaving a scrunched up T-shirt outside on the decking all winter. Why? Especially a much loved one.
I can be lazy, but not that lazy.

BarbedBloom · 25/10/2019 12:52

I am team burn it. My DH sometimes wears clothes that have a stain or holes and I find it really unattractive. However, it is up to him what he wants to wear, though I would draw a line at going out with him while he was wearing it. Grin

SupportHuman · 25/10/2019 12:53

This is so the sort of thing I would do Blush

Wear it gwacky, wear it and love it!

Chugchugtraintrain · 25/10/2019 12:53

Keep it! Why waste good clothing? It's still comfy.

And if it is to go take it to the clothes recycling at the skip, or h&m recycle old clothes, don't just bin or burn it.

gwackywacky · 25/10/2019 12:55

@BarbedBloom personally my DP works outside so he often comes in smelling of dirt and looking like a tramp with dirty clothes and hands and I think its HOT!!! sadly hes really anal and clean. Once we even had a huge argument because we were sexting as he was on his way home and when he came in instead of ravaging me straight away he went to have a shower o_O

OP posts:
mumsiedarlingrevolta · 25/10/2019 12:57

Has no one pointed out that it has been repeatedly darked on??

Surely that is reason for burning it...

Celebelly · 25/10/2019 12:59

Why would anyone care what their partner wears around the house? Confused Wear what you like for lounging!

BarbedBloom · 25/10/2019 12:59

@gwackywackyGrin Ah see I am probably like your husband, I am super clean and hate dirt and grime. My DH also has a manual job and am fine with a kiss and cuddle, but anything else needs a shower first. None of us are ever happy are we? Smile

Celebelly · 25/10/2019 13:01

You shocked people do realise that washing machines have been invented and OP does probably own one, right? She didn't pick it off the decking and put it straight on Grin

My dog has stolen a few pieces of clothing we've retrieved weeks or months later from under her favourite tree in the garden. I wouldn't dream of throwing them out when washing machines exist, especially if they were just for wearing around the house!

AmIThough · 25/10/2019 13:01

I find it funny that people are saying you're gross. You washed it so I don't see the issue!

Personally I'd wear it all the time Grin

gamerchick · 25/10/2019 13:02

See the picture you paint of an item of clothing being left in a heap for an entire winter where beasties, slugs, the odd animal pissing on it. Bringing it in to wash and wear is of someone who doesn't give a toss any what they look like in general (or ever makes/changes her bed oddly). Although I'm sure none of that is true.

Tell him to get you another one if he hates it that much but I just dont understand why a beloved comfortable top like that was left out for months.

gamerchick · 25/10/2019 13:04

I agree with a pp, wear it all the time now Grin

Beveren · 25/10/2019 13:05

I'm still wearing a 1998 Festival of the Sea shirt, so I'm team T shirt. However, I second the idea of getting our DP to get you a new shirt of the same type if he's that bothered.

Beveren · 25/10/2019 13:06

Your DP, not ours Blush

AmProperlyIn · 25/10/2019 13:11

You left a t shirt outside for months and then you just washed it and wore it ?

How do you think we get wool jumpers?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 25/10/2019 13:12

I like the story of a new chef in the royal household being addressed by a bloke in a ratty old cardi. He told the head chef the gardener wanted to see him. It was the Duke of Edinburgh.

Hippee · 25/10/2019 13:16

If it's 100% cotton, definitely dye it something darker. It'll cover the stains and, as a plus, your DP won't realise it's the same t-shirt.

rebecca102 · 25/10/2019 13:17

You must have really loved it to leave it outside for a whole winter lol Hmm
