How shockingly ignorant Remain supporters are.

Sorry, guys, but you are.

In the past week I have been told we must Remain because BJ is a dictator Hmm by one, and by another because it is easier to travel Hmm.

There seems to be no knowledge of our history and institutions, legal, political, sovereign and economic considerations, the history etc of Europe and what is really going on.

Labour and the trade unions were wholly against entry, and the Conservatives pushed it through by stealth and deceit. That crusty old socialist Tony Benn was prophetic on his remarks about what it meant. Now, today, that is reversed. Fascinating, really.

For a good grounding on the roots of the issue (Maastricht was going to result in Brexit it was completely inevitable), this documentary is quite useful:

Lol, two little comments (both correct but tiny passing comments). I think you know that remainders want to remain because of political and economic instability and the cost to our quality of lives.

FloatingObject · 06/10/2019 08:11

I'm not sure about ignorant, but what I will say (as a Remainer) is that embarrassingly a lot of the very nasty and aggressive comments I've seen and heard have been Remainers striking out at Leavers. I think Brexit has shown up the very limited tolerance and empathy that a lot of left wing Remainers would like to pretend they have.

NewStart571 · 06/10/2019 08:11

I’m not really too bothered about the history. That’s in the past. I’m concerned about the likely significant impacts on our lives going forward.

The impacts that have been admitted to be likely in the operation yellowhammer document.

Weebitawks · 06/10/2019 08:13

eye roll

PichmondRark · 06/10/2019 08:13

God I wish both sides would stop attacking the intelligence of the other.

WellButterMyArse · 06/10/2019 08:13

Don't feed it.

There are also plenty of right wing remainers doing the same though I guess they'd be exempt of empathy anyway, FloatingObject?

BettysLeftTentacle · 06/10/2019 08:16

Le sigh.

Sewingbea · 06/10/2019 08:16

Hmmm. So you're quoting two people's passing comments as evidence that all (that's your implication) remainders are "shockingly ignorant". ..

QueenOfThorns · 06/10/2019 08:16

Yes, YABU. You have reached this conclusion based on a sample of two people? Has it occurred to you that they may not be representative of Remainers in general Hmm

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 06/10/2019 08:16

Yanbu.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 06/10/2019 08:17

The 70's are over. Brexit is a trojan horse for disaster capitalism mired in xenophobia and dog whistles.

People are angry because Brexiteers seem willing to scarifice the GFA for something that will make most people worse off.

I think Brexit has shown up the very limited tolerance and empathy that a lot of left wing Remainers would like to pretend they have.

There wasn't much tolerance in the breaking point poster was there?

Studentist12 · 06/10/2019 08:17

ScreamingLadySutch

"Sorry, guys, but you are."

Why do you bother to say you are sorry for your sweeping statement and then continue to be shockingly rude?

Not everyone who wants to remain is ignorant, and not everyone makes comments like the ones to which you refer.

Don't you realise that having one thing or view in common doesn't make everyone the same? That's how racism, sexism and other various types of discrimination come about.

MaxNormal · 06/10/2019 08:18

Oh bugger off you dullard.

easyandy101 · 06/10/2019 08:19

I don't think any one side has the monopoly on idiocy

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 06/10/2019 08:19

But stop wasting your time on here op, it’s remain dominated, so most leavers gave up talking about brexit ages ago.

PooWillyBumBum · 06/10/2019 08:20

If I were to make sweeping judgements about everyone based on people I come into contact with, I’d assume all leavers were uneducated (haven’t met any in real life with a higher education) and slightly racist.

All my friends and family are remainers. Ranges from those with little political knowledge (I would be close to them on that scale!) to someone who read PPE at Oxford and now runs a multi million pound organisation.

You also seem to have missed that many, many politicians themselves are remainers, including some who are now working to try and leave and “give the people what they want”.

Oh, and, in case your interested - my husband works for an international bank and they’ve already moved half of his team’s jobs to Republic of Ireland and are planning on winding down UK operations in the long term. Luckily I have an Irish passport so if we really have to we will just jump ship.

What a ridiculously goady thread.

WaterSheep · 06/10/2019 08:20

I'm sure there are leavers who have also made ignorant comments, but I wouldn't start a thread saying leavers as a group were ignorant. Hmm

GPatz · 06/10/2019 08:20

'that embarrassingly a lot of the very nasty and aggressive comments I've seen and heard have been Remainers striking out at Leavers'

I think that's true, but more recent. But then, I've had enough of 'remoaners', 'get over it', 'we won' as an answer to every discussion to last me a lifetime

Xenia · 06/10/2019 08:20

I think there have been some very horrible comments made by both remainers and brexiteers against the other side. It really doesn't help. We are where we are. I voted remain. We lost. We are (rightly) now leaving and we need to work on ways to make that work best for everyone and help to ensure people can get on together again.

DriftingLeaves · 06/10/2019 08:21

Oh dear. You are wrong but not intelligent or perceptive enough to realise it. I feel sorry for you.

slipperywhensparticus · 06/10/2019 08:22

Go onto you Gov and give your opinion shockingly I dont actually care

Sugarplumfairy65 · 06/10/2019 08:23

Sick of seeing brexit posts in here. There is a separate section that they belong in
