How shockingly ignorant Remain supporters are.

Sorry, guys, but you are.

In the past week I have been told we must Remain because BJ is a dictator Hmm by one, and by another because it is easier to travel Hmm.

There seems to be no knowledge of our history and institutions, legal, political, sovereign and economic considerations, the history etc of Europe and what is really going on.

Labour and the trade unions were wholly against entry, and the Conservatives pushed it through by stealth and deceit. That crusty old socialist Tony Benn was prophetic on his remarks about what it meant. Now, today, that is reversed. Fascinating, really.

For a good grounding on the roots of the issue (Maastricht was going to result in Brexit it was completely inevitable), this documentary is quite useful:

Leavers are pretty ignorant of the many many issues Brexit has already caused and will continue to cause, but sure Remainers are the problem Hmm

So that's your evidence is it? Bugger all. And you call Remain supporters ignorant. Pot. Kettle. Black.

Lolacherrycola78 · 06/10/2019 08:24

Look in a mirror and ask who is shockingly ignorant? A sweeping statement about half the population.

Smileyaxolotl1 · 06/10/2019 08:28

Yanbu, although it is a little silly to base things on 2 comments made to you.
But your general comment is correct.
The comments from some of the ‘liberal and tolerant left’ are horrific but they consider it fine because their points are against Tories or in this case ignorant remainders.

Whatever you may think of Boris or indeed of Brexit, to suggest that the person who is trying to action the result of a democratic vote is a dictator is frankly ludicrous and similarly to suggest that the Lib Dems who wish to completely ignore it are some kind of beacons of democracy is also completely nonsensical.

constantlyseekinghappiness · 06/10/2019 08:29

@Broken11Girl

I’ve reported you, your comments are vile.

OP you should have learnt by now that a leave supporting thread will not be tolerated on Mumsnet.

The rule is, all leavers can be called racist, thick, uneducated, etc.

But no comments can be passed about remain supporters. They can’t cope with it. And they become very nasty.

It is what it is.

Ylvamoon · 06/10/2019 08:29

The 70's are over.

^ This.
We can't go back to glorified "Rule Britannia!"

But it always looks like that is what leaves want.
All I hear is: "Let's face it everything was better - and will be again - without the EU."

JacquesHammer · 06/10/2019 08:29

Your post is a golden lesson that sheer thickery isn’t reserved for one side.

A little bit of advice. Check the meaning of anecdote. It will help you.

BelleSausage · 06/10/2019 08:29

Why the divisive posting. This has been done to death.

Say something new! Something that suggests solutions, not problems.

NewNameGuy · 06/10/2019 08:29

I want to leave the EU.
I love European countries, and all people.
I love how British people are a tolerant collection of all ethnicities.

Floating is right about the 'tolerant' left

JacquesHammer · 06/10/2019 08:30

I love how British people are a tolerant collection of all ethnicities

Arf. Did your face slip as you typed that?

Elodie2019 · 06/10/2019 08:31

There seems to be no knowledge of our history and institutions, legal, political, sovereign and economic considerations, the history etc of Europe and what is really going on.

Your argument doesn't convince me that you are well informed in either History or Politics yourself OP.

Velveteenfruitbowl · 06/10/2019 08:34

The vast majority of people in Britain are ignorant on this front. To be fair the EU and it’s various mechanisms are ridiculously ridiculously convoluted. If you don’t have knowledge of political theory, economics, law (both EU law and domestic constitutional law) and European modern history there is no chance in hell you are going to understand. Most people are too lazy to do the reading. That’s why they vote on the basis of nebulous and unpredictable ideas like ‘political instability’ or ‘immigration’. Calling remainers ignorant is a fairly meaningless statement here, perhaps ‘afraid’ or ‘doing well our if the current arrangement’ would be a more useful pint of discussion.

Roussette · 06/10/2019 08:34

Agree the 70s are over. And it's the older generation who are harping back on it, and I'm posting this as a woman in her 60s, so thank god, I'm not so deluded.

There are some shockingly ignorant views given by Brexiteers. One woman told me how excited she was that when we left the old age pension age would go back to 60 for everyone because we'd stop paying all the pensions of everyone in the EU. Shock

I had to walk away.

bellinisurge · 06/10/2019 08:35

Catch yourself on. And grow up.

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 06/10/2019 08:36

Well, aren't you a sanctimonious, rude little poppet?

Yep, we are all ignorant. All of us. Do you feel better now?

Velveteenfruitbowl · 06/10/2019 08:37

@Ylvamoon to be fair quality of life within the EU isn’t great either. Maybe they are looking outside of Europe rather than looking to the past? There is an entirely world outside of the EU you know.

FuckeryOmbudsman · 06/10/2019 08:39

When leavers are called thick, it barely generates a raised eyebrow.

Interesring to see a thread with a title that's the other way round (possibly the only one ever) and there are warnings of 'not feeding it', language of division, stoking hate etc.

I hope that al, threads which make lazy and equally divisive/offensive comments about remainers will be just as roundly condemned in future

DoubtingMyPatience · 06/10/2019 08:40

A brexiter I was speaking to the other day genuinely thought that we were leaving Europe.

She said we should all be voting leave because we might get placed somewhere with better weather and nicer housing. Hmm

Id just like the whole thing over with or too take sooooo much longer than every stops talking about it. There’s only so much dead brexit conversation you can have with customers before we’re both awkwardly trying to ease of out the conversations

WaterSheep · 06/10/2019 08:40

Roussette

I'm not surprised you had to walk away after that comment. I felt the same the day after the referendum. When someone said to me that now we'd voted to leave, hopefully we would get a day off work for St Georges day...

ScreamingLadySutch · 06/10/2019 08:41

Being shockingly rude galvanises people - you might have noticed!

Also, regarding 'people didn't know what they were voting for' - it is quite fun to give that right back! (and be right about it, I really like that bit)

The past is NOT in the past. The past is a foundation of what is happening in the present. And its actually quite important.

To have an opinion but not actually know what that opinion is based on? Is shockingly ignorant
#YESIsaidit

Its fine to vote Remain. But acknowledge what you are voting for!

From a 1970 Treasury document recently declassified:

"It should be noted at the outset that the plan for economic and monetary union has revolutionary long term implications, both economic and political. It could imply the ultimate creation of the European federal state, with a single currency. All the basic instruments of national economic management would be ultimately handed over to the central federal authorities. ..."

Britain under economic monetary union could end up being less independent than any of the 50 states of the USA.

THIS WAS NOT ADMITTED AND NOT DISCUSSED, THEN OR SINCE.

And we are not discussing it here. Look at the incredible level of the responses. Fuck off, your an idiot, etc. Hmm.

Does anyone even know what the Lisbon Treaty means?

Does anyone know that Remain only constitutes 35% of opinion, and that variations of Leave (deal, no deal, etc) is the majority?

Ignorant. Yes, I said it again. Smile

I am not saying 'you must vote Leave', but FFS show some knowledge and debate accordingly!!

JacquesHammer · 06/10/2019 08:43

I know a handful of Leavers. A couple are eminently reasonable decent people.

The other two are pig-ignorant xenophobes who I have removed from my life. If nothing else I’m grateful the referendum ensure I knew their true colours.

It’s almost as if, and bear with me here because this concept will be mind blowing, there isn’t any point making sweeping generalisations.

MoggyP · 06/10/2019 08:43

Well, aren't you a sanctimonious, rude little poppet?
Yep, we are all ignorant. All of us. Do you feel better now?

Can I keep this phrase, and re-post it on every thread which calls Leavers thick/ignorant/etc now that there is a consensus that name-calling is not a good thing?

JacquesHammer · 06/10/2019 08:44

your an idiot

*you’re

(So sorry, don’t usually pick up on SPaG but rather amusing given the content of your rant don’t you think Wink)
