Just that really. In your honest opinion is it wrong/selfish to have an only child and why?

No

megrichardson · 21/06/2019 12:57

No I don't think it is selfish. The child can have more resources from you, emotionally, time and money.

tomtom1999xx · 21/06/2019 12:57

No.

Cheesymonster · 21/06/2019 12:58

Ours is not by choice, but no.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 21/06/2019 12:58

What, more selfish than having another kid just because society seems to think we should? Of course it's not, it's far more selfish to have more children than you can afford to raise or that you don't want.

aPengTing · 21/06/2019 12:58

Nope.

NabooThatsWho · 21/06/2019 12:58

No, why would it be selfish?

awakeatnight · 21/06/2019 12:59

What an ignorant view that would be. Many people, for many reasons, don't get a choice.

CMOTDibbler · 21/06/2019 13:00

No

AntiHop · 21/06/2019 13:00

No. It's actually very responsible to have an only child due to our overpopulated planet.

TerribleTwosPhase · 21/06/2019 13:01

No, I think we will only have one child and some people try to guilt me in to having more but the way i see it is she gets more of our time & attention and we can afford a better lifestyle than we could if we had 2.

ItsJustNoise · 21/06/2019 13:01

@whothedaddy do you think its selfish? And if so, why? Just wondering why you're asking

mbosnz · 21/06/2019 13:01

I'm a LP. In my situation even if the opportunity arose, it would be even more selfish to have another child knowing that I struggle enough with one child.

Rowennaravenclaw · 21/06/2019 13:05

It depends on the reasons.
If they are selfish reasons then yes.
If they are unselfish reasons then no.

MaidenMotherCrone · 21/06/2019 13:05

I think it is to some extent but having children is a selfish thing to do anyway.

When the parents are dead and gone they are left on their own. They have to deal with all the problems which may come as parents become old.

My children have each other when the time comes. I have my sister. I wouldn't have liked to have had to deal with my parents deaths alone and I didn't want that for my children either.

Having children is selfish as I said but you can't win either way so do what is best for you and the child you have.

Alwaysonarecce · 21/06/2019 13:06

No. Do you think it is? It’s hardly unusual.

OralBElectricToothbrush · 21/06/2019 13:07

NO

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 21/06/2019 13:07

Of course not!
I'm an only child and I have never felt unhappy about it.

ch3rrycola · 21/06/2019 13:07

tomtom1999xx · 21/06/2019 13:07

I’d rather be a good parent to one child than stressed out with 2 or 3.
