It's a parking one!!

So we live in a relatively new build which has 6 designated spaces (think 1A, 1B, 1C and so on)

I'm not long back and there is a car in my space, so I parked in the one next to me. The next door neighbour came out and asked me to move as her husband is due back soon.
But move where!!

AIBU?

Knock on all the other neighbours' doors until you find the culprit.

WeeDangerousSpike · 12/05/2019 09:47

Did you ask her if she knew who's car is in your space? Knock on doors till you find them, tell them to move, move your car to your space, surely?

DisplayPurposesOnly · 12/05/2019 09:48

Anywhere you like that isn't someone else's designated parking space or illegal. Obviously.

Just because you've been inconvenienced, it doesn't mean you can inconvenience someone else.

Perch · 12/05/2019 09:49

Can you park behind the one in your space blocking them in? Leave a note to knock for you so you know who the culprit is

NoSauce · 12/05/2019 09:49

Well yes yabu to do what the person who parked in your spot did to you. Maybe someone parked in their spot so they parked in yours. Do you see?

itbemay1 · 12/05/2019 09:58

You need to find out who's in your space, if everyone did what you have done the parking situation would be a nightmare! Just because someone is in your space doesn't mean you park in someone else's!

NCforThisO1 · 12/05/2019 09:58

The other 4 spots are empty but there's a massive block of flats to the left of my house so could be anybody!

Somewhere else!

Can you butt right up behind the car parked in your spot?

RaptorWhiskers · 12/05/2019 10:02

Block them in and leave a note. Personally I’d be “out” when they wanted to move their car too.

Collaborate · 12/05/2019 10:08

Definitely block them in. And suddenly forget where you put your car keys when they ask you to move.

Gazelda · 12/05/2019 10:09

Yes, YABU. If you find the culprit, how will you feel if he/she says that they had to park in your spot because someone was in theirs?
Think of the long game here - if you start treating parking spaces as 'free for all' then anarchy will soon prevail.

SauvignonBlanche · 12/05/2019 10:14

Two wrongs don’t make a right. It’s not your neighbour’s fault that someone is in your spot.

NCforThisO1 · 12/05/2019 10:14

Like I said the other 4 spaces are empty and there is nowhere else to park that's close to the house

OP posts:
flowery · 12/05/2019 10:16

It’s not your neighbour-whose-space-you-pinched’s responsibility to find you somewhere else to park!

Dippypippy1980 · 12/05/2019 10:18

Yes - people who knowingly Park in spots that belong to someone else are being unreasonable.

I am surprised you have to ask.

unfortunateevents · 12/05/2019 10:20

You want your neighbour to figure out where YOU should park?!

MidniteScribbler · 12/05/2019 10:21

Like I said the other 4 spaces are empty and there is nowhere else to park that's close to the house

This is not your neighbour's problem.

BogglesGoggles · 12/05/2019 10:22

YABVU. Just move into one of the empty spaces if you can’t block on your own space.

Whereistheglove · 12/05/2019 10:23

Yes, yabu. And of course you know that. Can you park directly behind the one on your space.
Or just park a bit further away from your house and install a bollard

NCforThisO1 · 12/05/2019 10:23

Well he will just have to park in one of the other empty spaces. I have 3 kids and shopping that I needed to get in to the house.
As it goes he still isn't even back so how soon is soon?

There is other spaces about 7 minutes away but I wouldn't have managed with a car seat and shopping and stuff

OP posts:
Langrish · 12/05/2019 10:25

I’d block them in with a note telling them to ask you to come and move when they want to leave your space.

PutyourtoponTrevor · 12/05/2019 10:25

You are just as bad as the person who has parked in your space

Aintnon · 12/05/2019 10:27

You can move your car now though when you’ve already got your shopping in?

PotteryLady · 12/05/2019 10:27

Park behind the car in your space.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 12/05/2019 10:30

I’d have done the same as you. Get NDN on side and ask her to help stalk the spot for the culprit.
