Dog poo etiquette

HelenLaBloodyAnnoyed · 05/03/2019 21:53

When walking my dog, he usually poos within the first ten mins. I obviously pick it up but I then leave the bag hanging on a fence or a tree to collect on the way back. I do this because DD has autism and the smell and sight of the poo would bother her the entire time, she'd be gagging or even sick. Tonight a fellow dog walker criticised me for it, saying it spoils the view Hmm There are no bins on this particular walk (which takes around an hour and a half) so it's necessary to take it home. Is it unreasonable to collect it on the way back?

I hate to see dog poo in bags hanging in bushes.. I guess lots of people do it but then forget where they hung it.

Just double bag it then you can't smell it through the bag.

adaline · 05/03/2019 21:57

No, I hate it when people do this. Take extra bags and double/triple bag it if necessary.

If you leave it out, what's to stop it being blown/knocked on the floor and causing a mess? Take it with you!

janetforpresident · 05/03/2019 21:57

Well personally I would find this a bit grim to come across. Buy scented nappy bags and take another bag for the nappy bag to go in.

But I am not a dog person so probably others will feel differently.

Laiste · 05/03/2019 21:58

I think that's a bit yuck tbh. I understand it's hard for you with DD. Could you tuck it more out of sight until your return?

A lot of folks are like sheep and will copy you. And probably not intend to pick it up on the way back!

IDoN0tCare · 05/03/2019 21:58

That’s disgusting and you’re going to get slammed on here for doing that. As far as anyone passing, is concerned there’s a bag of shite hanging on a tree/sitting on a wall. They aren’t going to be thinking, ‘oh, the owner will pick that up, on the way back.’ They’re just going to think ‘what a filthy dog owner!’

Take a suitable sized plastic air tight container with you and pop the bag into it, then it won’t smell. You can dispose of it later.

Coulddowithanap · 05/03/2019 21:58

Can't you alter your route so you go last a bin?

Bananasarenottheonlyfruit · 05/03/2019 21:59

Ah, poo baubles! You are going to get absolutely ripped to shreds on here. Too many people do as you do, then 'forget' to collect it on the way back, so the bags hang there forever.

I tuck it out of sight behind one particular rock. So I always know where it is to collect on the way back, and so it doesn't look unsightly to others. On the very rare occasions I have forgotten it, I know exactly where to go back to so I can retrieve it.

adaline · 05/03/2019 21:59

Oh, and I have a dog. I'd never leave poo in a bag on a tree - I find it worse than just seeing the poo! Why go to all the effort of bagging it just to dump it somewhere?

Either stick and flick if in the countryside, or bag it and take it with you. Leaving it dangling from a tree is pretty gross really.

Sparklingbrook · 05/03/2019 21:59

Ewww, what about people who don't want to see or smell poo baubles hanging from trees?

I agree with just double bag it.

Pinkyyy · 05/03/2019 22:00

Seems pretty bizarre to me. Can't you change the route slightly, to pass a bin?

Heyha · 05/03/2019 22:00

Someone has recently started hanging dog poo bags on my fence and leaving them...the wildlife camera will be relocating shortly as a result!

If you're doing a circular route and definitely always pick it up on the way home then I can't see any harm, it wouldn't bother me as a (small) landowner and dog owner. If you can hang it/hide it so other people can't see it and decide it's a good idea that would be better, though.

Bayleyf · 05/03/2019 22:01

That is vile. Why should other people have to walk past bags of your dog's shit?

Be a decent person and take it with you.

BusySnipingOnCallOfDuty · 05/03/2019 22:01

Its probably being confused with the number of people who bag it up then ditch it.

I don't think its nice at all. You can use scented nappy sacks or double/ triple bag as has been mentioned.

I have massive sensory issues and smells and noises can make me gag or chuck up. So when I've taken a dog out, I take several bags.

RosemarysBush · 05/03/2019 22:01

Yabu. Yuk.

FamilyReferee · 05/03/2019 22:01

I have dogs, and my DH went to do what you do, and I stopped him. I think others may not realise we would come back, plus it's just not right to leave it there visible or in case it gets forgotten. And yes, we carried it all the way round the walk, and all walks since.

You can get black poo sacks so it can't be seen inside, plus I've never smelt it if you tie the bag up right. But if that's still an option, I've seen little bags you can buy - they almost look like mini cool bags, that you can put your poo sacks in once filled - they will clip to you. They're not cheap, but I think we're going to get one, so we can carry that instead of poo bags in future.

You leave your bag, someone leaves their bag and so it goes.

Bag it, double or treble, but p!ease do not leave it.

Laiste · 05/03/2019 22:02

I hope you've got your tin hat on OP ....

BlueMerchant · 05/03/2019 22:02

Oh no. That's just wrong!

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 05/03/2019 22:02

This is vile. Double bag or change your route to one with bins; don’t force others to suffer.

MrsBungle · 05/03/2019 22:03

Yuk

lovelylondonsky · 05/03/2019 22:06

That's bloody disgusting.

Rrxox · 05/03/2019 22:06

If you were under my LA they’d hand you a lovely three digit fixed penalty notice.. regardless on whether you said you’d come back for it or not. No one likes swinging a bag of crap for an hour, we just adjust our walks to include a bin. And if it’s a walking route contact the LA and state there’s no bin which causes a fouling issue, they’d maybe either be able to tell you where the nearest ones are or possibly put one up.

SpoilsburyToastGirl · 05/03/2019 22:08

Dogs shit outside and owner is obligated to pick it up and dispose of it. Take it with you. If you struggle with this you shouldn't have a dog, it's kinda part of the package.
