Dog poo etiquette

When walking my dog, he usually poos within the first ten mins. I obviously pick it up but I then leave the bag hanging on a fence or a tree to collect on the way back. I do this because DD has autism and the smell and sight of the poo would bother her the entire time, she'd be gagging or even sick. Tonight a fellow dog walker criticised me for it, saying it spoils the view Hmm There are no bins on this particular walk (which takes around an hour and a half) so it's necessary to take it home. Is it unreasonable to collect it on the way back?

Assumedly this man didn't know you weren't going to just leave it there?

Even if you are picking it up again on the way back it isn't really acceptable, are these other homeowners fences/trees?!

And this is the reason I dont have a dog!

squeefy · 06/03/2019 21:05

I live near a woodland thats "only used by dog walkers"..... its just a gross smelly dog bags of poo wonderland! Even left for only 5 mins is bloody disgusting ! How do I know youre going to pick it up????? 99% dont!!

I don’t understand people thinking it’s ok to leave a bag of shit hanging up until they pass by. It’s shit! It’s not like you’ve left your bike or jumper until you return.

It’s. A. Bag. Of. Shit.

Amoregentlemanlikemanner · 06/03/2019 21:25

Zzzz, the OP is happy to invest in an appropriate bag so everyone wins.

“Pretty sure if I chuck a pizza box on the ground and say it’s ok I’ll pick it up later when I come back this way, it’s littering.”

This.

And yes your dog, your responsibility.

MorganKitten · 06/03/2019 21:26

That’s gross

@HelenLaBloodyAnnoyed I've done the same myself rather than traipse round with it when I know I have to pass it again on the way back.

I had issues once with people that kept leaving bags hanging from trees and even the field gate my horses are and that was just sheer laziness. They were like odd Christmas tree baubles hanging there.

I get why and what you do but think it'd be worth buying scented ones and just doubling up the bags. Lass I know bought a small rucksack type thing for putting in bags of poo but not sure where she got them. She's a dog walker and had several dogs to pick up after her but it could soon be illegal for dog walkers not to pick up anywhere including farmland and fields well out of the way. Several pregnant cows gave birth to stillborn calves near us which was due to poo from unvaccinated dogs people didn't pick up.

ok zzzzz put that way then we disagree! but it sort of doesn't matter as op has changed her strategy.
