To think that some pizza flavours are just unacceptable

Probably gonna get flamed but I have stayed silent long enough on this inflammatory topic and I'm prepared to go down with my ship.

Pizza in it's truest form is just a thin dough with a tomato base made from San Marzano tomatoes topped with mozzarella.

BBQ sauce. Hoi sin. Sweet chilli. Chip shop curry. Chipotle. Masala. Mango chutney. Bechamel sauce.

these are all things that, while delightful in their own context, are heinous on a pizza

I got sent a pizza leaflet that had a photo of one topped with slices of orange. I never ordered from them.

DH ordered a deep pan cheeseburger pizza last week. Our marriage was still on shaky ground from pesto-prawn-pizzagate.

If it hasn't got tomato sauce and mozzarella on it (and none of the monstrosities you mention) it isn't a pizza.

I get particularly worked up about BBQ chicken, because I'm not a fan of chicken on pizza either.

I let Italian DH read the spaghetti "Bolognese" thread yesterday and he almost wept. Italian food has been bastardised beyond all recognition. Givea me a laugh though

I suspect like you I’m a pizza purist.
We did have pizzas made with whole meal dough on holiday once and they really were not very nice.
I do like pineapple on a pizza though, does that make me a mad woman??

Papa John's once did a pizza with bechemel sauce and salmon. I ordered it to try something new. It went in the bin.

In fact both times I ordered a papa John's they were thrown in the bin.

I love bbq sauce in a pizza. But I did raise an eyebrow at chicken curry and Christmas dinner pizzas in Asda. I'm sure they will do a Chinese New Year themed one.

I'm with you too. I'm a pizza purist. And I agree with pp that chicken on pizza is ugh. Bbq chicken - double ugh.

The only pizza I eat is margarita, occasionally with a bit of basil on top. The least worst meat is pepperoni.

Here in Sweden, a pretty normal pizza is Chicken, banana, peanuts and curry sauce. Allow that horror to really sink in....

Saw a doner kebab one recently! Also one that was topped with French fries! I guess it's each to their own, thinnest crust possible vege for me.

I like a basic margarita with mushrooms,peppers and olives.

I'm with you OP. Pizza should be quite sparse ... preferably with a soughdough crust, blackened and bubbled in places, done in a wood-fired oven hotter than the surface of the sun.

My own personal favourite is (a very little) San Marzano tomato sauce, good mozzarella, black olives and perhaps a little artichoke. I had one like that in Naples once.

I make pizza dough with 50/50 white and whole meal flour and it works really well. 100% whole meal might be a bit biscuity though.

Other than that, I’m a pizza purist - no chicken, spicy mince or fruit on my pizza.

Sainsbury's did a Mac and cheese pizza recently. Not sure if they still do. It was....interesting...
