Probably gonna get flamed but I have stayed silent long enough on this inflammatory topic and I'm prepared to go down with my ship.

Pizza in it's truest form is just a thin dough with a tomato base made from San Marzano tomatoes topped with mozzarella.

BBQ sauce. Hoi sin. Sweet chilli. Chip shop curry. Chipotle. Masala. Mango chutney. Bechamel sauce.

these are all things that, while delightful in their own context, are heinous on a pizza

Meat on a pizza, other than ham , is absolute filth

Acceptable pizza toppings - tomatoes, mozzarella, olives, ham, tuna, anchovies, veg such as onion, peppers, mushrooms, artichokes.

Not acceptable - pineapple, pepperoni or similar, chicken, cheese other than mozzarella, pretty much anything else.

Tomatoes?

Come on now, everyone knows that while tomatoes are technically a fruit, we treat them like they're a vegetable and have them in savoury recipes not sweet.

We had a day trip to Italy (from France!) in the summer, had much in a beachside pismzzeria. The DCs will always remember it for the chip a d sausage pizza they had. No cheese.

I think any kind of cured pork is acceptable and that would absolutely include pepperoni, which, if decent, is a magnificent pizza topping.

The second best pizza I ever ate was on a New York street corner. Tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni. Nothing else. Perfection.

Pizza Express do a Mushroom Pizza with a bechamel sauce and truffle oil which is lush... but I like Hawaiian, so there you go.

I’m not a fan of pizza, just don’t see why people go mad for it. If I had to though I’d have an American hot with loads of jalapeños.

In Bangkok there was a really lovely authentic pizza place run by a guy from Florence who wore white trousers. As well as all the traditional ones he used to have some ones on the menu for the various nationalities who lived in BKK.

The Japanese loved a particular pizza with Gorgonzola and apple on it and there was another that had a "bridge" constructed with toothpicks prosciutto and mortadella.

Chicken on pizza is evil.

In Thailand I had pizza with BBQ sauce instead of tomato- it was vile

I'm totally with you, OP. Can't bear American-style deep-pan 'pizza' with weird toppings. Worst pizza I saw on a menu (but didn't order, of course) had tuna and gorgonzola among its ingredients. I love tuna. I love gorgonzola. But together?!?

But those Swedish pizzas are criminal

I’m with you OP. I am a total pizza purist. Thin crust, tomato sauce, mozzarella. Perhaps a sprinkle of fresh basil. It’s the original and best, everything else is a bastardisation.

There is a local pizza chain that does a Sunday roast pizza which is lush, thin crust, lamb sweet potato, wood fired

Other things you can get on a pizza in Sweden which no one would blink an eye at: tuna, bearnaise sauce, French fries, mussels. And too it off with a pot of pizzasallad, which is as far as I can tell just shredded cabbage drenched in vinegar.
My only hypothesis is that prolonged vitamin d deficiencies have sent the whole country crazy.

I enjoy mayonnaise drizzled all over the pizza. Also tried a potato wedge topping pizza before which was amazing.
