To think that some pizza flavours are just unacceptable

Probably gonna get flamed but I have stayed silent long enough on this inflammatory topic and I'm prepared to go down with my ship.

Pizza in it's truest form is just a thin dough with a tomato base made from San Marzano tomatoes topped with mozzarella.

BBQ sauce. Hoi sin. Sweet chilli. Chip shop curry. Chipotle. Masala. Mango chutney. Bechamel sauce.

these are all things that, while delightful in their own context, are heinous on a pizza

I can't stand chicken on a pizza, and I agree things like BBQ sauce, hoi sin and bechamel sauce are wrong.

The absolute worst was a fish and chip pizza I tried once - battered fish and chips. On pizza. So wrong.

my hubby sometimes proposes to make pizza without cheese. What is the point of a pizza without cheese? It should be illegal!

I'm actually less incensed about the toppings - I didn't realise chicken was such a no-no (although I'm veggie so 🤷‍♀️).

As long as it has tomato and mozz, I can put up with it. It's when you start messing with those basic principles that my skin starts crawling.

PPs point about flatbread is valid but when pizza places and supermarkets are peddling this utter filth as pizza it is just criminal, truly.

Anchovies are one of my favourite foods, all types of them.

Had a pizza with creamy white sauce instead of tomato once. It was vile.

(The fact that I initially wrote "creamy shite sauce" is clearly my subconscious attempting to express its deep and abiding trauma. There was also chicken, because of course there was.)

Pizza without cheese is very traditional - a marinara pizza shouldn’t have mozzarella anywhere near it.

I love pizza, I love chilli, once I had a chilli topped pizza, it was bleurghh!

Stop thinking of it as pizza and think of it as a mere vehicle for what ever weirdness weirdness people fancy. That Swedish topping has thrown me though. This is just wrong.

Sweden definitely wins the WTF award, and I'd love to know the thought process that led to that combination.

I love bbq base pizzas. I prefer them to normal pizzas.

I had a pizza with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, green peppers, capers, pepperoni, and anchovies the other night and it was so nice maybe my bliss factor has counteracted the massive blood pressure spike it probably caused.

Could have dropped the pepperoni on that tbh, DP insisted.

You need to come to Sweden and try a Swedish pizza. The toppings have to be seen to be believed. The most popular is kebab pizza, but you can get pizza with peanuts on, banana, chips, eggs, muscles, iceberg lettuce. It's bloody weird.

Swedish MNers, please explain your baffling pizza toppings.

No pineapple, no fruit whatsoever, no seafood, no variations of other well known food (cheeseburger/donor kebab etc) and definitely no messing with the base sauce.

Down with that sort of thing.

Seafood pizza is better with mozarella than without imho. I don't care what the Italians say.

When we were in Naples, pizza napoli didn't have any cheese, because the original pizzas didn't have cheese, I have to say I much preferred it
