To think that some pizza flavours are just unacceptable

Probably gonna get flamed but I have stayed silent long enough on this inflammatory topic and I'm prepared to go down with my ship.

Pizza in it's truest form is just a thin dough with a tomato base made from San Marzano tomatoes topped with mozzarella.

BBQ sauce. Hoi sin. Sweet chilli. Chip shop curry. Chipotle. Masala. Mango chutney. Bechamel sauce.

these are all things that, while delightful in their own context, are heinous on a pizza

Pizza purists unite - what is the worst pizza combo you've had?

Pizza blasphemers don't come @ me bitchez.

Our local pizzeria also offers kebab pizza and taco pizzas, the former comes with chips on it too!

sushisuperstar · 26/01/2019 18:58

Remember the baked bean pizza? It was actually pretty good....

kitkatsky · 26/01/2019 18:59

If nonna hadn't been dead for over 20years I'd be asking if you were her! I love proper Italian pizza, tho an American travesty like dominos is ok sometimes. The pineapple gang on other hand- you guys are 🤢🤢🤢

JontyDoggle37 · 26/01/2019 18:59

Tuna on pizza should be illegal. There is no more to be said.

PootlesBobbleHat

I know it's cheeky but could you, would you maybe share your pizza base recipe?

PootlesBobbleHat · 26/01/2019 19:26

No problem - it's from the River Cottage Veg book but I've adapted it:

250g strong white bread flour
250g spelt flour
1 sachet or teaspoon dried yeast
1.5 teaspoons salt
Mix it round.
Add 325ml warm water and a tablespoon olive oil.
Knead into a sticky dough. Floury hands essential.
Knead for 10 mins.
Put in oiled bowl, cover with cloth and leave in airing cupboard at least 2 hours.

Divide into 3 and roll out. Makes 3 big thin bases.

Sauce:

Chopped tomatoes - 1 tin
Olive oil
Dried oregano
Capful of balsamic
Salt and pepper
Tomato puree

Simmer until thick.

Even DS prefers it to shop-bought, and he thinks only proper food comes from the freezer section...

Babyroobs · 26/01/2019 19:29

I've had a lovely apple and cinnamon Pizza at a Pizza Hut abroad. It was delicious.

Drogosnextwife · 26/01/2019 19:35

My local Indian does a spicy mine pizza. It's amazing. The Indian in the next town does an amazing spicy chicken pizza, I also love a bbq pizza with veg and chicken.
All meat and veg is acceptable on pizza, no fruit accept tomatoes, no other carb items like pasta, chips etc are acceptable either.

CheeseTheDay · 26/01/2019 19:35

My go to pizza is a BBQ sauce base, cheese, pineapple, red onion, and jalapenos. I like a traditional Italian pizza, don't get me wrong, but I love what I love.

Food evolves. It isn't for anyone else to say what is acceptable and what isn't.

MorningsEleven · 26/01/2019 19:35

Thank you, that's so kind. I'll give it a try on Monday. Some people insist on a Sunday roast, in our house it's a Monday pizza.

Drogosnextwife · 26/01/2019 19:38

Except, not accept!

PootlesBobbleHat · 26/01/2019 19:38

@Mornings you're welcome.

Saturday night is pizza, wine and TV in our house.

RavenLG · 26/01/2019 19:41

The local scabby chippy does the best bbq chicken stodgy pizza.

Stonebaked proper pizza is best plain, possibly with a little prosciutto.

Pizza is personal though, I’m not judging anyone for their pizza chooses unless you get seafood pizza in which case you can get out

Shockers · 26/01/2019 19:42

The best pizza I’ve ever tasted was in Annecy (I’m sorry, Italians!). It had a thin, slightly charred base, a thin smear of tomatoey sauce, sliced onions, capers, tuna, mozzarella and an egg cracked onto the middle. Not too much of anything though.

I’ve tried variations since, but nothing will ever match that original.

BikeRunSki · 26/01/2019 19:46

Ah, Friday night is pizza night in our house. It’s a hangover from before we lived together avd one of us was always travelling on a Friday evening. The non travelling one would order a pizza when the travelling one rang to say they were half an hour away.

PasDevantLesElephants · 26/01/2019 19:48

In Burnley, I once ordered a vegetable feast pizza and it turned out to be covered with mixed frozen veg (peas, sweetcorn and those funny small round carrots) welded on with a thick layer of cheese.

It was pure filth, but quite nice nonetheless, could have done with some gravy as a dipping sauce!

BarbaraofSevillle · 26/01/2019 19:57

The best pizza I've had has been on Gozo. Lots of really good Italian restaurants due to historical immigration.

I had one in Malta that was supposed to come with asparagus, but for some reason they had substituted for carrots. I did feel a but ripped off but they were the nicest carrots I have ever had and the food had taken ages do I didn't say anything because I was starving and I didn't want them to take it away and try again.

DP and I often joke about Maltese asparagus whenever we see carrots.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 26/01/2019 20:14

Pineapple 🤮

LaurieMarlow · 26/01/2019 21:23

The worst pizza I ever had was in Malta. It had rabbit curry on it. It was horrific.

I'd actually blocked that memory out until now. This thread brought the trauma back Envy

AngeloMysterioso · 26/01/2019 21:35

Ham, mushrooms, black olives, loooooads of cheese. Yum.

Octopus37 · 26/01/2019 21:40

A few years ago, Asda used to do an Argy Bargy pizza (it was part of their fresh range). It had onion bhaji and chicken tikka on it and came with a mango chutney drizzle on top, was lush. Other than that I'm a Dominos girl, love the Hot & Spicy one. Also like the goats cheese and caramelised onion one that Pizza Express do and I am partial to a Christmas Dinner pizza (minus the sprouts). Another favourite is a Hoisin Duck pizza. I may want to take a trip to Sweden all of a sudden.

MsMustDoBetter · 26/01/2019 21:45

Pizza should be a dough base, tomato salt and oregano, mozzarella and then any three (max) of the following:-

Olives
Anchovies
Ham
Mushrooms
Peppers
Tuna
Prawns

I'll allow sweet corn at a push.

BakewellTarts · 26/01/2019 21:47

Ham and Pineapple.

brizzledrizzle · 26/01/2019 21:48

Pepperoni, anchovies, ham and pineapple, bolognese and chinese pizza are all totally unacceptable.

Acceptable toppings are goats cheese, spinach, roquito peppers, artichokes or ricotta.

Buteo · 26/01/2019 21:54

Anchovies, capers, basil and black olives. Perfect.
