To think that some pizza flavours are just unacceptable

Probably gonna get flamed but I have stayed silent long enough on this inflammatory topic and I'm prepared to go down with my ship.

Pizza in it's truest form is just a thin dough with a tomato base made from San Marzano tomatoes topped with mozzarella.

BBQ sauce. Hoi sin. Sweet chilli. Chip shop curry. Chipotle. Masala. Mango chutney. Bechamel sauce.

these are all things that, while delightful in their own context, are heinous on a pizza

Pizza purists unite - what is the worst pizza combo you've had?

Pizza blasphemers don't come @ me bitchez.

I’m all for pizza bastardisation. However I’d love to try the real stuff. I’ve never been to Italy and my local “Italian” isn’t authentic from what OP says.

My family is from India though I am born and bred in UK. I just feel there are two completely different cuisines, I always go for tandoori as probably most authentic and something people in India don’t make at home. Almost all Indian restaurant food isn’t authentic at all, might taste ok but a lot is weird especially vindaloo.

Loyaultemelie · 26/01/2019 22:35

I'm veggie so pretty much like my pizza in its purest form, despite people trying to hide olives on it Envy

StrangeLookingParasite · 26/01/2019 22:37

The best pizza I’ve ever tasted was in Annecy

I had absolutely amazing sushi in Grenoble. So odd.

MrsGarethSouthgate · 26/01/2019 22:45

@BikeRunSki I need to know more about the aubergine and feta pizza please. Specifically location and name of eatery 🍆🧀🍕

Petnamrchange · 26/01/2019 22:50

This thread made me crave pizza.

Coleslaw topped pizza, food of the gods! Wink

Proseccoagain · 26/01/2019 22:56

Curry pizza (in Cyprus) and chilli pizza (can't remember where) - food of the gods.

HistoriaTrixie · 26/01/2019 22:57

My brother used to work for these guys. My favorite of theirs is probably the Socrates' Revenge or the Meatball.

SemperIdem · 26/01/2019 22:58

Just here to agree with you op

Schmoobarb · 26/01/2019 23:05

The worst pizza I ever had was in Malta. It had rabbit curry on it. It was horrific.

My husband once had a pizza with raw kidneys on it in France 🤮 he thought it was going to be chicken livers, which to be fair would also be grim.

I once had mince pizza in france too (different place) it was meant to be chilli beef but this was how I learned the French are shit at chilli.

I like thinner Italian style pizzas fave topping is goats cheese, rocket and red onion but also partial to one with mushrooms and black olives. Quite like ham and pineapple too

sushisuperstar · 26/01/2019 23:32

Deep fried half pizza with brown sauce from a Scottish chippy 👌🏻

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 26/01/2019 23:38

Turkish pizza has mince on it and if you talk to a Turk they'll tell you that they invented pizza so arguably it's authentic.

Sushi yes! Washed down with Irn Bru.

Recently discovered a cheeseburger pizza. It's lush. Even has mustard on it.

The best pizza though is a parmo.

spudlet7 · 26/01/2019 23:43

Well, I'd eat any of those things on a pizza because I just really like pizza. Only if they were put in front of me; I probably wouldn't order them. But I agree with you in principle, if not in practise. Can't help it, the 🐷 in me takes over 🤷🏼‍♀️

nbartist · 27/01/2019 01:52

I have to admit to being a picky eater here, but most of these sound awful. I do like the occasional bit of pineapple, but fish, chicken, curry and all of those are way out of my pizza comfort zone. That said, my standard order of pizza is ham and sweetcorn, so I probably don't have the right to complain about others Grin

seizethecuttlefish · 27/01/2019 02:22

@sushisuperstar I was just about the mention deep fried pizza. Best hangover cure ever. When I lived in Wales, I had to convince the local chippy to do it. I used to drunkenly but it every weekend. Poor guy was completely perplexed!

WiddlinDiddlin · 27/01/2019 03:09

I recently came across the 'sweet and sour sauce' based pizza.

It is truly the most disgusting thing I have ever attempted to eat.

I am a fan of pineapple on pizza however, i find the juicy sharp pineapple cuts through the cheese and pepperoni nicely.

I am also waiting for our next left over takeaway pizza, so I can attempt folding it and reheating it in the Breville... pizza toasties!

Picknickers · 27/01/2019 07:05

My favourite pizza has spinach and egg on it. Yum.

anniehm · 27/01/2019 07:43

Have whatever you like!! But as odd toppings - chocolate sauce and strawberries anyone? Donner meat is odd because it's too fatty. I like an American pan style pizza with loads of toppings! Thin pizza is lovely but doesn't transport, the toppings side on the poor delivery boys bike - I stick to thin pizza in restaurants (ideally with wood fired ovens)

HeronLanyon · 27/01/2019 07:47

Agree fully - anything other than mozzarella toms and sometimes some basil is of no interest to me. I particularly dislike roasted vegetable type toppings and pesto.
Pineapple - now this is contentious. I would never order but I understand sweet juicy might work well - have moved from complete intolerance and judgemental stance on this to despair but a glimmer of understanding.

sushisuperstar · 27/01/2019 09:12

@seizethecuttlefish when you bit into them they were sooo greasy too 🤣 I used to get my pizza supper after going swimming 🥴

LuluJakey1 · 27/01/2019 09:14

DH and I came close to the edge once when he ordered a Christmas Dinner pizza at a restaurant.

Pk37 · 27/01/2019 09:27

Any type of fish on a pizza OTHER than anchovies should be illegal

HeronLanyon · 27/01/2019 09:36

Forgot in addition to Tom mozzie and fresh basil I am sometimes partial to black olives (but only salt cured not fleshy watery ones) Grin they feature in my Brexit despair stocks currently.

ModernStoneAgeFamily · 27/01/2019 09:38

In a moment of madness I asked for bbq sauce on the one we had made yesterday. I won’t be doing that again.

I also don’t think grated cheddar cheese is ok really. Or thick bases. It’s not until you have a real Italian pizza that you realise how wrong that is.

Although it was in Italy that we had a strange pizza, probably our fault though. Dd asked for fries with hers and they seemed quite triumphant when it came to the table with the chips all piled on top of the pizza. Maybe something got lost in translation..Confused

HeronLanyon · 27/01/2019 09:47

modern well done for pulling through that scary bbq episode. Please be gentle with yourself, take care. Keep eye out for any relapse. Good luck. Flowers

BikeRunSki · 27/01/2019 09:54

Seems like chips as pizza topping is quite common in Italy.
