I really don't know wasn't taught at all how to keep a house.

How often should I be doing these things?

Your replies will very massively. Anyone that follows MRS Hinch on Instagram will say daily at least 🙄 others will say once a month.

I'm the wrong person to ask tbh

  1. I brush and spot clean but rarely wash floors
  2. when they no longer dry after hanging up after a shower
  3. when the sock fluff and cat hair is threatening to take over
pizzacrisps · 08/01/2019 17:34

I am not follow that mentalist Mrs Hinch!

Are her pictures taken in black and white Wink

Hoover and mop every morning... Clean towels every Friday

MoaningSickness · 08/01/2019 17:35

This is one of those 'how long is a piece of string's questions, add the will be people who do those daily, and people who do them yearly.

Personally, other than spills I wash floors monthly, towels weekly, and hoover properly once a week (plus near daily small area cleans due to toddler).

Canshopwillshop · 08/01/2019 17:36

I hoover our hard floors downstairs every day due to pet hair. Upstairs carpets once a week. A good mopping of all hard floors gets done once a week with spot cleaning in between as needed. Towels get washed once a week along with all the bedding.

Earlywalker · 08/01/2019 17:36

I hoover every other day, mop once a week, towels once a week. Not sure if that’s normal though!

UhUhUhDennis · 08/01/2019 17:36

I'd sweep/hoover hard floors everyday because I have cats and a toddler. I'd bleach and wash floors once a week. I wash towels once a week but hand towels and kitchen towels nearly everyday because they get so much use. I hoover downstairs carpets everyday because I have to and upstairs twice a week. I clean sinks and taps every couple of days, I do 7000 loads of washing everyday and the dishwasher is usually on twice a day. We both also work full time and DC at nursery so I don't know where all the washing and mess comes from!

Moononthehill28 · 08/01/2019 17:36

I mop floors weekly, wash towels weekly and Hoover every 2/3 days

WoogleCone · 08/01/2019 17:37

Well here we wash floors maybe once a month thats probably generous but would spot clean a spill etc.

Towels are washed after 3/4 uses.

Hoover probably twice a week. We have young children who enjoy dropping crumbs though.

I'm ready to be told I'm gross Grin

Onascaleof1tolovelywalks · 08/01/2019 17:37

I hoover everywhere every day, mop every week (more if needed), towels every few uses.

adaline · 08/01/2019 17:37

Sweep floors daily but wash once a week. Vacuum daily because we have a dog and two cats. Towels get washed weekly as do the dogs blankets and sheets.

Jaynesworld · 08/01/2019 17:37

I wash the floors when outdoor shoes have been on them. So if we havent been out or had the rare visitor, I dont do them.
I hoover the lounge almost everyday. I do the stairs and bedrooms once a week and if they need it.
I wash towels when they need it so, about twice a week.

Nothisispatrick · 08/01/2019 17:38

I will answer only for the sake of variety as you’ll get a lot of ‘daily’ answers, if not several times a day.

A and C, cleaner does it once a week. I never clean the floors or hoover unless cleaner is on holiday.

B whenever I think they might need it or I find one all crumpled and damp when DP hasn’t hung it up properly!

wink1970 · 08/01/2019 17:38

Cripes, how long is a piece of string?...

  1. weekly the main hard floors, perhaps twice a week the kitchen (or I've made a mess cooking!)
  2. every 3 days or so
  3. as for 1

I would imagine if you have pets then 1 and 3 are more often; DM does hers virtually daily.

KatharinaRosalie · 08/01/2019 17:38

When dirty.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 08/01/2019 17:39

I hoover daily (we have pets and revolting sport-mad DC who traipse all sorts through the house).

Towels are twice a week.

Floors are steam-mopped every day but mostly because we have a puppy and are toilet-training him. Ordinarily it'd be less often.

Wateringhole · 08/01/2019 17:40

Floors are probably once a month or so, towels when DP complains his smells so probably about once a week. I do hoover most days but that's only because I have a chordless so it's really easy to just grab and whizz it around. Plus my DP and DD are both messy eaters so the floor is always covered in crumbs 🙄

treaclesoda · 08/01/2019 17:40

I do all those things when they need them. That might be daily or it might be weekly. Depends on many factors.

mrsm43s · 08/01/2019 17:40

Hoover most days. Mop once a weekish. Clean towels once a weekish.

But the real answer is - when they look/smell/feel like they need doing, which will vary from household to household.

PookieDo · 08/01/2019 17:41

Hoover when it looks like it needs it (every couple days)
Towels once every 5 days or so unless they smell but hang them out to dry properly
Wash floors - once or twice a week

ChristmasAccountant · 08/01/2019 17:41

Hoover daily as I have a toddler that spills stuff all the bloody time
Sweep hard floors daily for same reason
Wash floors every week ish
Wash towels every 10 days or so (but probably change them more frequently but I have shedloads so they sit in the washing basket a while)

StoatofDisarray · 08/01/2019 17:41

For me, once a week for all of them.

AdultHumanFemale · 08/01/2019 17:42

Excellent thread, I'm looking forward to this!
a) I wash floors (hands and knees with floor soap and floor cloths as can't get enough of a 'rub' on them with a mop; old wooden floor boards and tiles) every other Saturday. We don't wear shoes indoors so it doesn't get so dirty.
b) every Saturday (although instantly if used for swimming in municipal swimming pool). Towelling robes perhaps once a month.
c) hoovering every day as we've got cats.
