I really don't know wasn't taught at all how to keep a house.

How often should I be doing these things?

ToffeePennie · 09/01/2019 13:43

I wash the floors when something sticky is on them or once a week.
I try to hoover once a day, but it’s more like every 3 at the moment with workmen in!
I wash OUR towels once a week, with the bedding, but my children’s towels are washed every use (mine are boys and both are sticky and pooey!)

AmyDowdensLeftLeftShoe · 09/01/2019 13:46

a) depends on the floor - kitchen is swept daily and mopped a few times a week, other hard floors are swept and mopped a minimum of once a week but often more frequently.
b) when they are dirty - you can feel them and tell when they aren't clean. In a household of 4 people you will need to change a hand towel at least daily.
c) when it has stuff on it - minimum once a week

MustBeThin · 09/01/2019 13:58

I Hoover every 2-4 days, whenever it looks like it needs to be done.

Towels every 3-4 days

Floor has a deep clean with the steam mop every few weeks. Depends on the weather really, I have 3 little dogs so if it's been raining outside I use my spray mop with washable pads every single time I let them into the house to keep on top of it then when it's been dry for a couple of days I use the steam mop. During the summer if we've had no rain I rarely use the steam mop but use the spray mop when the floor looks like it needs a quick clean.

BrieAndOatcakes · 09/01/2019 14:00

1 & 3 weekly. 2 every few days or more as kids tend to drop them on the floor or cause big puddles that I need towels to dry up.

kaytee87 · 09/01/2019 14:01

mine are boys and both are sticky and pooey!

Are they sticky and pooey after a bath or shower? Confused serious question. I have a 2.5yo boy and he comes out the bath clean which is when I use his towel.

Zippetydoodahzippetyay · 09/01/2019 14:04

I Hoover daily, mop floors once or twice a week and wash towels and bed sheets weekly. Sometimes more frequently and sometimes less, but that’s the average.

LucyFox · 09/01/2019 14:06

The answer to all of these is “between several times a day and once every couple of months”
You see, if you are single, work full time, maybe work away a few days every week you will need to clean far less often than if you have 2 adults+4kids+2 dogs, a cat & multiple house rabbits ...
How much does your floor get used, what sort of “muck” & how much time do you have to clean them?
How about you try washing the kitchen floor every 2 weeks & decide if that works for you - I think most people would say once a week, maybe every day if you have crawling babies or pets.
Start by aiming for once a week on towels but be willing to change
Hoovering, again if you have a hairy dog you’ll need to do it more often but maybe once a week to start?

NotCopingWithThis · 09/01/2019 14:08

Wash floors - I spot wash if needed, probably do an actual mop once every few months, if that.
Towels - Omce per week is about average for us.
Hoover - Husband bloody loves the hoover (it’s cordless and he is obsessed!) so it probably gets done 2-3 times per week. If left up to me, I’d do it once.

ifoundthebread · 09/01/2019 14:09

I have a dog so hoover our living room everyday, sometimes twice a day depending what the days activities were (I also have a 9 month old so need to keep the floor a 'little bits' free zone).

I do a bulk wash of towels every week- ish. Depends on when dp and dd went swimming that week.

Wash the kitchen floor when visually needed 😂 and my bathroom is tiny so wipe the floor over with a couple anti bacterial wipes every couple of days or if there's been a miss 🤢

ToffeePennie · 09/01/2019 14:10

Not after a bath or shower, no, but they are often sticky when they come in from school and rush up to the bathroom to do poos. My biggest sometimes forgets to wash his hands (he is only 4, and gets excited about doing his homework and wants to play) and will just wipe them on a towel (hence it gets washed) my littlest is still a baby and quite often chucks up on his towel after a bath.
Every time they use them is not unreasonable.

JoinTheDots · 09/01/2019 14:21

Bedding once a fortnight, mopping once a week (plus spot cleaning) and hoovering daily. Not sure how often I do the towels, they are used a few times before washing, put on the towel rail when done with, and then put in the wash when the person using them thinks its about time?!

thereallifesaffy · 09/01/2019 14:27

I have a dog. I hoover every day and mop twice a week. He isn't allowed upstairs. I hoover there very rarely.

Towels - when they need it - more than once a week tho

kaytee87 · 09/01/2019 14:29

@ToffeePennie fair enough Grin

IntentsAndPorpoises · 09/01/2019 18:43

I have two children and 3 cats and hard floors mostly. I aim to hoover once a week (doesn't always happen) and mop adhoc, usually when my mum is coming to visit. Definitely less than once a month.

Wash towels once a week ish, often over that.

IntentsAndPorpoises · 09/01/2019 18:44

I also did this when mine were toddlers.

AVT5 · 09/01/2019 18:47

I have 4 kids..Hoover twice a day, wash towels typically after second use. Disinfect hard floor's in the evening after eating

Megan2018 · 09/01/2019 18:53

Weekly for bathroom towels. Kitchen towels/tea towels get changed every other day.
Bedding 1-2 weeks, I aim for weekly but not always.
The cleaner hoovers and mops weekly, DH does in between if we have guests or it really mings.
We have 3 cats and very free range chickens but live in the country so not fussed about a bit of dirt on floors!

Jojobythesea · 09/01/2019 18:54

Rarely wash floors but always sweeping them. Hoover quite a lot, every couple of days. The best thing I did was we all only ever use hand towels and they go in the wash every time. Much better.

ChakiraChakra · 09/01/2019 18:57

Wash floors when they look dirty

Hoover when it looks dirty (or once a week if it is too dark to tell!)

Towels when I remember, or when they smell fusty Grin

'Floor's' Confused

Surfingtheweb · 09/01/2019 20:54

We sweep the kitchen daily. Hoover, polish & wash all floors throughout the house once a week. Change bedding & towels weekly. Clean all bathrooms weekly. Clean all the kitchen cupboard fronts & inside microwave weekly. Clean the ovens once a month. Smile

InMyOwnParticularIdiom · 09/01/2019 22:20

Wash kitchen floor weekly, with daily sweep ups and wet wipes in the toddler trough area.

Hoover whole house thoroughly weekly, with downstairs sometimes getting a quick going over in between if it starts looking grim.

Change towels weekly (specifically Mondays), baring toddler peeing incidents.
