I really don't know wasn't taught at all how to keep a house.

How often should I be doing these things?

Hoover/sweep downstairs 2-3 times a week, upstairs 1-2 times a fortnight. Wet Mop as required, steam mop once a month. Towels changed once a week.

CokeAndCrispsAndDip · 08/01/2019 18:58

I think I am a slob Grin I hoover once a day, great with a cordless, and once a month I hand wipe the hard floors and wipe the skirting. Body and hand towels get changed once a month, they are only mopping up water off my clean body. Kitchen towel gets changed when its needed.

icannotremember · 08/01/2019 18:59

I wash towels when they are visibly dirty or have got that yucky damp smell starting.
I wash the floors far less often than I should.
We hoover downstairs every day but there are 2 adults, 3 children, 2 cats and bloody laminate floor everywhere so if we don't it's awful.

Blueblueyellow · 08/01/2019 18:59

*UhUhUhDennis, what's floor soap?
Floors hoovered and mopped every night before bed, bathroom cleaned daily, towels changed twice a week. My house is all cream/magnolia and cream tiles Sad and lots of windows and light, everything shows up, wish I didn't have to do it every day though.ironinglady57 it's a curse isn't it? But then the satisfaction you get aswell.

itbemay · 08/01/2019 19:00

Hoover most days
Mop kitchen floor once a week with spot cleaning in between
Boil towels once a week
Clean loo mostly daily
Clean bathroom once a week

Girlwiththearabstrap · 08/01/2019 19:02

I Hoover and quickly steam mop every day but do the Organised mum method so each room gets deep cleaned/furniture moved etc once a week. Tea towels and hand towels get changed every couple of days, bath towels every 3/4 days and they all get washed on a Tuesday with the sheets.

Smellyoulateralligator · 08/01/2019 19:04

I’m convinced it’s how you live. For some reason I feel like I’m hoovering, dusting and mopping ALL THE TIME and the place is still a shithole. At least three times a week. But we keep shoes on and are generally quite untidy. When I do a clean up it’s stays nice for maybe half a day

Knowivedonewrong · 08/01/2019 19:09

Hoover twice a day, as have dogs.
Wash the floors two/ three times a week especially when weather is wet.
Towels washed once a week.

AMomHasNoName · 08/01/2019 19:10

Downstairs gets hoovered every evening after tea , upstairs and hall every thursday usually. I mop once a week and the towels are washee once a week maybe 2 at a push if I've been very busy.

Robin2323 · 08/01/2019 19:11

Laminate floor , only 2 weekly.
Hoover weekly. Except kitchen which gets done if 2 or 3 times a week.
Bath towels weekly.
Tea towels daily.
Hand towels was twice a week till the kids left home now weekly.
No pets and shoes off at door.
House always looks spotless.

fleshmarketclose · 08/01/2019 19:11

I mop once a week, I hoover every other day but I wash towels after each use. I find with me that frequency is directly related to effort required tbh.

Shameful2019 · 08/01/2019 19:14

Hoover everyday downstairs. Once a week upstairs. Towels every 4 or 5 days. Or really I put them in the wash and they get washed when they get washed.... we have plenty of towels.

HolyMountain · 08/01/2019 19:15

I work every day Mon-Friday, term time only.

When I’m working I hoover once at the weekend , mop the kitchen floor once a week and wash the towels once a fortnight.

Writingtrash · 08/01/2019 19:21

One morning a week I set aside for a good clean. Polish, wipe, hoover, mop, bathroom, a few loads of washing, I'll usually declutter a bit or clean out the fridge/a cupboard that needs it. I'm always done by 12.During the week I'll put another wash or two on, put away laundry as needed, and I'll spot check any spills or crumbs with the brush and mop. I put things away when I'm finished using them, wipe the sides down when I'm finished cooking. It doesn't feel like cleaning to be honest as it takes seconds. People always comment on how tidy and peaceful my house is, and I don't ever feel overwhelmed by housework. I have two well trained children and a DH who isn't a lazy arsehole, two cats, small three bedroom house. Although we aren't minimalist we do tend to declutter and try not to bring useless crap into the house, and I think that's the secret. No doubt Mrs Hinch would think I'm a dirty slut, but I'm happy with my house.

wombatron · 08/01/2019 19:21

I vacuum once a week downstairs, mop kitchen daily and lounge area/hall when it needs doing. I have pets but it's clean enough mon-fri to live with. Bathroom floor usually gets done with the kitchen floor (a big MN no no) water or it won't get done at all. Carpets upstairs hoovered every other week - no shoes or pets up there though.

Towels washed every week on 60degrees, bedding every other week unless it looks like it needs changing/we've been ill/hot and sweaty.

I used to do it all weekly. Life is just too short.

wombatron · 08/01/2019 19:22

But I am generally on top of clutter so my weekly clean takes 2 hours . Kitchen work tops are wiped down daily

Tonsilss · 08/01/2019 19:22

Do any of you do anything other than housework?!!

pizzacrisps · 08/01/2019 19:24

@Tonsilss Yes.. loads.. housework doesn't take forever does it. I doubt people are hand washing their towels

OP posts:
IdblowJonSnow · 08/01/2019 19:24

Once a week for all of those but sweep kitchen and dining room daily.
No pets and a shoes off house!

pizzacrisps · 08/01/2019 19:26

I'm actually looking forward to getting my new spray mop!

OP posts:
Namechange8471 · 08/01/2019 19:26

Hoover and mop every other day.

Towells after a few uses

Itsmenotyouisntit · 08/01/2019 19:26

I hoover down stairs about 3 times a day (dd 4years old=lots of mess and downstairs is only a kitchen, small hallway and sittingroom/dinning room) and Hoover upstairs about twice a week. Floors get washed when needed (I spot clean as we go along) and towels get washed when we start to run out of them, they all get washed together on a hot wash so makes sense to me.. they get used about 3 times before I wash them and they always get hung on the radiator to dry after each use so no hanging around damp/getting smelly.
Not sure what's right it's just what I do.

MsSquiz · 08/01/2019 19:28

I mop the floors every other week (tiled floor in kitchen conservatory and hallway) but spot clean if needed (mainly in the kitchen or by the front door)

I wash towels weekly - I have 3 sets on rotation

We hoover once a week but we have very fluffy house cats who leave a lovely grey fluffy layer on every possible surface!

(And I follow Mrs Hinch!)

pizzacrisps · 08/01/2019 19:29

Isn't Mrs Hinch quite mad?

OP posts:
Neverunderfed · 08/01/2019 19:31

I hoover a few times a day ..very easy with a cordless and necessary with three young kids, a dog and a log burner.

Wash towels...hand towels from bathroom are changed every time I do a load of washing, so probably every other day, bath towels after two uses or thereabouts.

Wash the floors...only floor that needs washing is kitchen, it is hoovered daily and spot cleaned whenever needed but not mopped more than once a week or so.
