I really don't know wasn't taught at all how to keep a house.

How often should I be doing these things?

Floors washed monthly, hoovered weekly (all hard floors, no pets or small children).
Towels washed weekly.

pizzacrisps · 08/01/2019 17:42

Consensus is weekly for towels 👌🏻 sounds good

I wash floors twice a week, hoover every day and change towels every 5ish days. I used to do floors hoover and mop once a week but now I have a toddler who throws food.

AwkwardPaws27 · 08/01/2019 17:44

I wash floors once a month, other than spot cleaning of spills etc
Wash bathroom towels once a week, but I change the kitchen tea towels every couple of days.
DH hoovers weekly, then we do a more thorough hoover once a month before washing them, where we move the furniture etc.
I'd do the floors more frequently if we had a small child crawling about though.

stevie69 · 08/01/2019 17:44

Never. If it absolutely has to be done then ..... as infrequently as possible.

caringcarer · 08/01/2019 17:45

Our cleaner comes twice each week for 1 1/2 hours each time. She hoovers all living areas and main bathroom and child's bedroom each time she comes, and steam mops kitchen, wooden floors downstairs and bathroom too. I change towels twice a week but there are always more in airing cupboard if anyone wants a clean one. My dc are older so capable of getting one for themselves and taking off own bedding and towels and washing and drying them themselves. I just do one child of 12 years with SN for them. Damp dusting twice a week too as asthmatics. I make ac hoover, dust and clean their own rooms which they do about once a fortnight. I do our bedroom once a week.

caringcarer · 08/01/2019 17:47

Forgot to say I have two puppies that bring in muddy footprints despite wiping their paws.

bobstersmum · 08/01/2019 17:47

I hoover every day once or twice depending on if the kids have made a mess.
Change towels at least once a week.
Aim to change beds weekly but mostly will be longer.
Mop hard floors once a week.
Dust every 2-3 days, we have a visible layer of dust if left longer, no idea where this comes from!

cocoallure · 08/01/2019 17:47

Fresh tea towel everyday, towels every 3-4 days
Hoover kitchen and downstairs daily, mopping gets done by cleaner once a week but I also do it depending on how dirty the dog makes the kitchen.
Upstairs 1-2 a week.

pizzacrisps · 08/01/2019 17:47

I've just cancelled my cleaner and bought a spray mop. Figured I'd save money that way and I don't like having to be out of the house every Thursday for two hours. I have an 11 month old so it's sometimes more convenient to do things myself

Littlechocola · 08/01/2019 17:47

A) only floors to wash are bathroom and porch which get done weekly unless needed more.
B) as we use them.
C) downstairs daily, upstairs weekly.

UhUhUhDennis · 08/01/2019 17:47

I've never known anyone to still use floor soap or say municipal pool. Definitely I agree though I have specific swimming towels washed after every use - anyone who doesn't do that is Envy not envy.

pizzacrisps · 08/01/2019 17:48

I wouldn't wash the towels after every use! What a waste of water/energy/time

IAmAllowedAnOpinion · 08/01/2019 17:49

I hoover every day, wash floors twice a week and wash towels once a week.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 08/01/2019 17:49

Well, it depends how many people and pets you live with.
As the years have gone by and more kids added, the freqency of all of the above have increased.
I hoover downstairs most days because I have small messy children. Upstairs is once a week usually as food not allowed upstairs. I dont wash floors, I hoover the hard floors. They don't seem to need mopping. Towels I wash after 2 or 3 uses because my washing machine will die out from the extra loads!
When there were no children and pets it would be once a week hoovering.

I'm known as a clean and tidy person, if that helps.

sparkli · 08/01/2019 17:51

Hoover downstairs 3 times a week and upstairs once. Mop floors every week. Towels are washed after every use and hand towels changed daily. We are a family of 8 and it's easier to wash and dry 8 towels than find somewhere to hang them to dry indoors after use.

hippospot · 08/01/2019 17:52

Hard floors here, and cats (not allowed upstairs).
Vacuum downstairs twice a week, upstairs once a week
Mop floors once a week
Change bath towels once a week but hand towels every second day or so.

needanappp · 08/01/2019 17:52

I think it depends on your household. We have a toddler and 2 cats. For us:

A) OH has a go at me because I was towels too often for his liking. Usually after 2 uses. I'm not sure why but it's just a thing I have that I don't like the thought of them being used more than that. Totally personal preference for that though and aware that's not the norm for a lot of people!

B) once a week if I can be arsed sometimes it's once every 2 weeks

C) everyday because we have lots of crumbs and pet fur!

whatsthepointthen · 08/01/2019 17:52

I hoover several times a day as 4 small children.

troubleswillbeoutofsight · 08/01/2019 17:52

I hoover downstairs one week, upstairs the next. The hardwood floors downstairs are washed about every month or so. ( I cant see any dirt so convince myself it’s fine) bathroom and kitchen floors washed weekly after I’ve cleaned kitchen and bathroom

troubleswillbeoutofsight · 08/01/2019 17:53

Towels washed at same time bathroom cleaned weekly

Chouetted · 08/01/2019 17:55

I don't wash the floors unless they visibly look dirty (as opposed to not looking sparkling clean).

I wash the towels when they need doing, which varies enormously depending on what they've been used for.

I live alone, so I only hoover when it starts to bother me that I haven't - every couple of months, say. I'll go round with a dustpan and brush if something has been spilt or dropped.

Sunshineandshowers81 · 08/01/2019 17:55

Hoover a couple of times a day, mop floors twice a week. Towels changed every couple of days

ironinglady57 · 08/01/2019 17:59

I hoover and mop downstairs every day. Hoover stairs and upstairs every other day bathroom and kitchen floors every day.

Towels are used twice before being washed.

MiceSqueakCatsMeow · 08/01/2019 17:59

Floors every other day. But bathrooms once a week when the bathrooms are cleaned. Except for the toilet area, which is when needed. I have two ds.
Towels once a week, but I think it should be twice a week.
Sheets every week, but I do two to three weeks, which I think is disgusting.
Hoover every other day.
I clean all rooms once a week.
I've got to wash the skirting boards and other woodwork which is twice a year, which is pretty disgusting. Also the windows are like this too. Except this year as dh said he'd do them in the summer and I'm still waiting...
