Not everyone feels sorry for Mums of just boys or only children

Speaking to an acquaintance who mentioned feeling sorry for two of the women she works with in her office. One a Mum of 2 boys, and the other a Mum of one. Apparently she feels awkward as she thinks they're both jealous of her as she's a Mum of both sexes. I asked why she thought that, and she said "oh all women want a Daughter don't they? and everyone wants more than one" I said I've known lots of people happy with an only child or all boys, and she pulled an odd face as if she didn't believe me and said "well that's what people say"

AIBU to think she's a bit of a knob?

Yanbu. I have weirdly heard similar. One woman I work with always says she had the "jackpot" as she has two daughters (no sons). Weird. I would be perfectly happy with all boys or, indeed, an only child if ttc number 2 fails and I only have DS (who is the most adorable child in the world, although I may be biased!).

She’s strange. i got two boys, love it. i don’t have a real gender preference, but i hate the colour pink with a passion, so boys mean i didn’t have to battle gender stereotypes from day 1. (oldest quite like pink and is of course allowed to wear it in case anybody is concerned).

paffuto · 24/11/2018 17:33

I was a mum of an only one for 16 years. Was completely satisfied with just one. Then divorced and remarried and had two more dc. Now I know why pe

GrubbyHipsterBeard · 24/11/2018 17:33

YANBU. The number of people that think it’s acceptable to imply mothers of boys are disappointed when the second or third child isn’t a girl is staggering. It’s incredibly rude.

QuilliamCakespeare · 24/11/2018 17:33

Oh piss off. I have two boys and couldn't be happier. She's a dick!

notpushyinterested · 24/11/2018 17:33

How weird!!! I have two sons and feel utterly blessed. They're brilliant. I have never had an urge for a daughter.

grumpy4squash · 24/11/2018 17:34

Definitely a bit of a knob.

Maybe she's trying to find validation of her own choices/family?

BertramKibbler · 24/11/2018 17:34

Nasty smug woman. Pretty deluded too! Thought for a long time my boy would be our only and he was just perfect as he was.

bookworm14 · 24/11/2018 17:34

I bloody hope no one is sorry for me because I have one child (by choice). She sounds like a bellend.

Athena51 · 24/11/2018 17:34

Weird. I have an only son. Your colleague probably thinks I must have been cursed Smile. I've always loved being his mum.

loubluee · 24/11/2018 17:35

I only wanted boys, and got two! I hit the jackpot as far as I’m concerned.

Yura · 24/11/2018 17:35

(i do admit i had my fingers tightly crossed for boys - i can do without the additional stress of avoiding pink and frills which to me are just absolutely nauseating and hideous)

BakedBeans47 · 24/11/2018 17:36

YANBU. And if she bestowed any of her “pity” on me whatsoever she’d have her head in her hands.

BertramKibbler · 24/11/2018 17:36

Hmm
TopBitchoftheWitches · 24/11/2018 17:36

It's not gender Hmm it is biological sex.

Redgreencoverplant · 24/11/2018 17:36

I have never felt an urge to have a daughter and am extremely happy with my one son :)

Bluerussian · 24/11/2018 17:37

Yanbu. Your colleague's world must be very small or else she is giving herself a pat on the back for having one of each as if she did something clever. Whatever, she's daft and tactless. Plenty of people have two of same sex or just one child & quite happy. Goodness, think of those who cannot have children - all they want is A child!

EleanorRigbey · 24/11/2018 17:37

YANBU, she’s clearly a knob, believing her that her own opinions are fact Hmm

BeardedMum · 24/11/2018 17:37

Very strange but I do think some people think this. Especially mothers of daughters.

CandyCreeper · 24/11/2018 17:37

honestly, yes i would feel sorry for someone who just kept having boys.

Reallybadidea · 24/11/2018 17:37

I feel sorry for anyone whose happiness depends on the sex of their children.

Potterpotty · 24/11/2018 17:37

I have two DD's and after our second we were constantly asked if we were going to try again to have a boy!!! It used to annoy me as I felt like they were saying having two of the same sex isn't as good.

spreadmarmznotmisery · 24/11/2018 17:37

I have one boy and he's bloody awesome (I'm sure a girl would be too, it really doesn't matter what flavour they are)

paffuto · 24/11/2018 17:38

Sorry, posted too soon. Now I know why people used to be jealous of only one, they're yearning for the relatively peaceful, organised life you can have, with just one. (not that I'd be without the second two though)

MatildaTheCat · 24/11/2018 17:38

After Ds2 was born someone asked me if I was very disappointed.

No but I was very offended.
