Gave something away for free, but person now wants petrol money refunded?

I feel like I'm not being unreasonable, but maybe I am?

I put up a pushchair for free on a group (decent brand). Someone asked if it was in good condition and they'd be very grateful to have it. I said yes it's in really good condition (which it is).

However, there's a clip that's on the side (not really a relevant part) that has a crack in it, it's still useable but there is a crack. I didn't think much of it.

Lady messages me saying she has found it has a crack on the clip but I said it was in really good condition, and she couldn't have drove 30 miles for it if I hadn't have said it was in good condition and would now like her petrol money back???

AIBU to say no?

Well she is clearly going to sell the pram on so that’s why she is moaning about the crack.

I think it disgusting how people go round looking for free stuff they don’t need just want to make money.

Honestly just ignore her.

GreenLife · 04/11/2018 19:59

Unbelievable, yes sure I could ask her to bring it back and pay couple £ if she makes it dirty.
By the way this typicall people must be ignored at any situation.

littleredrose · 04/11/2018 20:01

Caveat Emptor. Let the buyer beware. Her responsibility to give a thorough inspection of the item she's buying.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 04/11/2018 20:03

She wasn’t buying it was a freebie.no monies were exchanged
Recipient is a bit of a chancer, clearly trying it on

JJ2014 · 04/11/2018 20:31

No fricking way!!!!! What the hell!

Ilikeknitting · 04/11/2018 20:34

Tell her she can sell the pushchair for a tenner, that will more than cover the cost of her fuel. but you will not be refunding her she is a cf.

Troels · 04/11/2018 20:40

30 miles in my car is less than £1 seeing it goes 50 miles to the galllon. Tell her to bring it back you'll give her the £1 it cost to drive over. Cheeky mare.

angelfacecuti75 · 04/11/2018 20:51

Dear cf
I'm sure you'd have paid lots of money even with the crack which doesn't impact the use of the item..so no seeing as u got it for free i won't be refunding your money-seeing as ive probably saved you quite a lot. I'm sorry i didn't report it to you before i gave it 2u but as i said you can still use it. I would urge you to be more grateful for the items given 2u by others for free as i did it to be kind and i find it extremely rude and ungrateful that you'd even think to ask me this & i shan't be discussing the matter any further. Thank you.

Passenger42 · 04/11/2018 20:55

It was her decision to drive to collect a free item so her choice. Don't give her anything and ignore. You will see it up for sale in a few days on Facebook

rwalker · 04/11/2018 20:56

she'll have it on ebay now but please report her to the group

Iaimtomisbehave1 · 04/11/2018 20:57

@Troels

Where do you up your fuel? There are about 4.5 litres in a gallon. A litre of fuel costs around £1.30, so for 30 miles, you’re paying about £3.50 for 30 miles.

Vixxxy · 04/11/2018 21:03

Wow, thats seriously cheeky! I hate when people are so ungrateful like this. Seems depressingly common too.

RockYourSocksOff · 04/11/2018 21:06

YANBU!

Have you got proof she lives 30 miles away?

No refund of petrol. Tell her you’ll gladly collect item if she’s not happy with the FREE pushchair.

She’s a CF of the highest order!

Wetwashing00 · 04/11/2018 21:19

That is laughable.
I’d tell her to flog the buggy if she needs the petrol money back.
Cheeky bitch

JakeBallardswife · 04/11/2018 21:22

Kind of related. We're trying to get rid of our old pine kitchen table, needs reoiling but in good condition. I tried to get rid of it for free, but twice people didn't turn up to collect. As soon as I asked £20 we've had 4 people in 4 hours ask if its still available and when can they collect!

Think its something about perceived value etc.

Smeg63 · 04/11/2018 21:23

Totally out of order

Yorkshiretolondon · 04/11/2018 21:28

CF CF CF
definitely no petrol money refund

Angiemum24 · 04/11/2018 21:30

Yanbu! Cheeky bitch! Tell her where to stick it.

londonrach · 04/11/2018 21:32

Seriously..she was going to resell it. Yaubu. Block this cf.

londonrach · 04/11/2018 21:34

Id also report to admin on facebook asa cf

Italiangreyhound · 04/11/2018 21:42

YANBU. She woulds like a cheeky fucker.

I'd just say if she doesn't want it she doesn't need to keep it but it has nothing to do with you now. She came and collected it. Her choice.

Italiangreyhound · 04/11/2018 21:43

sounds not woulds!

Nevergiveup1980 · 04/11/2018 21:54

It’s just a clip to lock it!! Not an essential part & doesn’t affect the safety of it. What a cheeky cow!
I’ve now stopped giving people my outgrown items from my twins people can be so ungrateful & rarely show any appreciation

mathanxiety · 04/11/2018 22:08

I bet she wanted to sell it and now can't, so she wants you to pay her what she would have made from the sale.

SW6mama · 04/11/2018 22:18

Even disregarding the fact it was free, you don’t get the price of your taxi refunded when you take something back to Zara.
