Gave something away for free, but person now wants petrol money refunded?

I feel like I'm not being unreasonable, but maybe I am?

I put up a pushchair for free on a group (decent brand). Someone asked if it was in good condition and they'd be very grateful to have it. I said yes it's in really good condition (which it is).

However, there's a clip that's on the side (not really a relevant part) that has a crack in it, it's still useable but there is a crack. I didn't think much of it.

Lady messages me saying she has found it has a crack on the clip but I said it was in really good condition, and she couldn't have drove 30 miles for it if I hadn't have said it was in good condition and would now like her petrol money back???

AIBU to say no?

Did u reply OP?

Jellybabie3 · 04/11/2018 18:19

Agree with a PP. I would offer her back exactly what she spent on it. Ungrateful cow.

That said. I would get the puschair back if possible as it would royally piss me off if I suspected she had collected it to sell.

Vivianebrezilletbrooks · 04/11/2018 18:22

I'm thinking she wants to sell it on if it's a good brand and now thinks she can't and she should have checked it before she put in in her car anyway. Tell her to return the pushchair if she's that unhappy with it and no she doesn't get her petrol money back. I'd be surprised if you ever hear from her again if you tell her that. She's a grade A CF.

RebootYourEngine · 04/11/2018 18:35

What a CF. I also think she intended on selling it

Tonyshep · 04/11/2018 18:36

Giving something away for free / cheap? Worried there is a chancer who may sell it?
When they arrive suddenly remember that the item is tagged with SmartWater so they need to know as you’ve had problems with things being resold that have tagged and getting calls from police as a result!

Amazing how many decide they don’t want the item or it “isn’t quite right”.

Cullum2001 · 04/11/2018 18:40

Tattandthis, well said! Let us know the outcome please? This via Facebook?

Cullum2001 · 04/11/2018 18:42

Great idea Tonyshep

riceuten · 04/11/2018 18:47

I’d drive to her and collect it. No petrol money returned

Notmorewashing · 04/11/2018 18:47

I would be going to get it back

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 04/11/2018 18:51

Bloody cheek! No. Just no!

Carriecakes80 · 04/11/2018 18:54

Omg!!! I have no words for how rude and ill mannered some people are! You have done nothing wrong, please do not refund her! What a cowbag!

Bigchair · 04/11/2018 18:57

Cheeky bastard. Some people. ....

YetAnotherThing · 04/11/2018 19:06

Tell her it was in perfect condition when she collected it, and must have damaged it on her way home. Agree she was just going to flog-it on.

tolerable · 04/11/2018 19:06

Wow!! shes very "clip like".all she probli has to do is google her yahoo name of pc and find replacement.she still doing well. That said,i will from now on include itemising any small cast-up-able wear n tear in free ads.

dwab45 · 04/11/2018 19:07

You are definitely NBU. Cheeky fucker. Caveat emptor. Buyer beware. Her job to check before purchase.

Kingk1 · 04/11/2018 19:12

What an ungrateful person! Tell her u did not realize the crack was there and it to be a issue as she's getting a free push chair! Some people are disgusting. Do not refund her petrol .

topcat2014 · 04/11/2018 19:15

This is why I would rather take stuff to the tip.

topcat2014 · 04/11/2018 19:15

or donate to animal shelter

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 04/11/2018 19:16

Don’t tip stuff, call the HV they’ll collect and they know which clients need items

LuluJakey1 · 04/11/2018 19:20

We put a new set of aluminium ladders 20ft double set , unused, on Gumtree for £20. They cost almost £100 new. A man came to look at them, hummed and haawed and then said he would think about it. Went home and emailed us to say would we take £10 and deliver them to him as well. Errmm No!

We also put a 1930s radio on Gumtre that had been in our garage. It is beautiful. Has hundreds of stations on the light up dial (which lights up), like Radio Calcutta, Radio Delhi, Radio Ankara etc, is a lovely art deco shape and can actually work but is a bit 'weedy' in sound. Great decorative piece. We asked £20 ono. Someone emailed to say he wanted it for his gran and does not get much pocket money and would we take £5 because it was for his gran. DH said no and we got a really rude email back saying we are 'greedy and have no heart. What's £15 to you? '. Doesn't sound like someone who gets pocket money to me. We kept it and have put it in the dining room again.

MadMadaMim · 04/11/2018 19:27

I'd report her to the site/page admin. I'd also screenshot the exchange, put it on the site warning others to be aware.

Cheeky mare

Giraffey1 · 04/11/2018 19:28

Just. Say. No!

sobby · 04/11/2018 19:31

I suspect that is the cause, she was a dealer and frustrated that she might not be able to make a big profit on it

Annewilko4 · 04/11/2018 19:41

She probably wanted to sell it. Tell her to do one, she's a cheeky mare.

Annewilko4 · 04/11/2018 19:43

People are so greedy and nasty.
