Gave something away for free, but person now wants petrol money refunded?

I feel like I'm not being unreasonable, but maybe I am?

I put up a pushchair for free on a group (decent brand). Someone asked if it was in good condition and they'd be very grateful to have it. I said yes it's in really good condition (which it is).

However, there's a clip that's on the side (not really a relevant part) that has a crack in it, it's still useable but there is a crack. I didn't think much of it.

Lady messages me saying she has found it has a crack on the clip but I said it was in really good condition, and she couldn't have drove 30 miles for it if I hadn't have said it was in good condition and would now like her petrol money back???

AIBU to say no?

Yeh. Call her bluff and ask her to bring back the pushchair then you'll pay 60 miles (or is it 30miles -15 there and back or 30 there and back?) If its 60 miles give her £7.50 if its 30 miles give her £3.25

:D what a bell end

Cupoftchaiagain · 03/11/2018 08:25

She was probably going to sell it
Try a baby bank or asylum seekers charity

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 03/11/2018 08:26

Hell no. You said it was in good condition not that it was brand new, straight out of the box condition!

I can't believe she got a perfectly good pram FREE and she's whining Hmm. I think pp may be right - some people don't appreciate what they get for nothing!

Miscible · 03/11/2018 08:27

I suspect she could get a replacement plastic bit from the manufacturer for considerably less than the cost of petrol. Look into it and send her details or a link.

DartmoorDoughnut · 03/11/2018 08:27

Fuck that for a game of soldiers!

ladydickisathingapparently · 03/11/2018 08:30

I too suspect she planned to sell it.

Aeroflotgirl · 03/11/2018 08:35

Tell her to jog on, cheeky fecker.

MudCity · 03/11/2018 08:36

I’d take her address, go round, collect the push chair and donate it to charity.

This. Refund her petrol but get the push chair back and sell it.

diddl · 03/11/2018 08:38

If she'd ssen the "fault" at yours & decided not to take it, wonder if she would have asked for petrol money then?

Bet she's still using it!

Kokeshi123 · 03/11/2018 08:38

As others have said, she is probably trying to sell it. Cheeky mare.

Tartsamazeballs · 03/11/2018 08:39

If you reply with anything less than a hearty "get to fuck" you're doing it wrong.

RavenMaven · 03/11/2018 08:42

All of you suggesting that the op do things like to and collect it, refund the money, or research a new clip.

Fuck that for a game of soldiers. This lady got something for free.

I'd reply 'If you want a pushchair in perfect condition, buy a new one from a shop. I will not be covering your petrol money for collecting a pushchair I have you for FREE'

And then block her

RavenMaven · 03/11/2018 08:44

Or actually even that is using to much effort.

'No' then block is better

KlutzyDraconequus · 03/11/2018 08:44

If you intend to give something way for free, donate it to a charity shop.
It'll make no difference to you, you're still rid of the item, but it'll.make a difference to the charity and to the person needing the item.

And you don't run the risk of some cheeky fucker being a cheeky fucker.

BrickByBrick · 03/11/2018 08:45

She wanted to sell it. If it was to use no one would be bothered about a crack that didn't affect use or safety.

ChatCatCat · 03/11/2018 08:45

Sounds like she was going to sell it on or swap it on a pushchair swap group. CF!

BooEekCackle · 03/11/2018 08:46

YANBU
OP, there are many cheeky feckers around. Don't give stuff away for free. If anything, give it to your local charity shop who can sell stuff on and use the money for a good cause.

Candlelights2345 · 03/11/2018 08:46

Tell her to do one , the CF.
Tell her she should have checked it before she took ok it away. It was free FFS!!

shallichangemyname · 03/11/2018 08:47

If we strip this down to the legalities, she would have to prove you'd broken a contract to claim repayment from you. But the pram was a gift. No payment, no contract. Simples.
Absolutely agree with PPs that she was going to try to sell it!

MrDonut · 03/11/2018 08:48

She really should have checked it over thoroughly when she picked it up. It’s frustrating when something isn’t exactly what you wanted but that the risk you take with these groups. If she contacts you again, report her to admin of the group.

OoohSmooch · 03/11/2018 08:48

Sold as seen....but it was free!! She sounds like she lives in la la land. What a stupid cow!

JustJoinedRightNow · 03/11/2018 08:49

I agree with a PP, don’t even answer her.

In our flats we have a bin room where heaps of stuff is left when people move out. I always put the stuff for free on different websites, and I’ve had a couple of people complain about things they’ve come to get (for free) and which I took clear photos of and attached them to the listing.

The best one was when I gave a kids toy away for free, she claimed it was broken and wouldn’t have bothered, but when I handed it over I also said there were a few more freebies in the bag! Such ungratefullness. The world is going to heck!

donquixotedelamancha · 03/11/2018 08:49

What she's doing will breach the terms of the list you use (it's a known problem and usually an automatic ban). These people collect free items and sell them on- she's just upping the ante and trying to con money as well.

Please, please report her to the list admin. Parasites like this ruin a brilliant idea.

TokyoSushi · 03/11/2018 08:50

Wow! Cheeky cow! Yes ask her to bring the pushchair back and then you'll refund the petrol, I too am betting she wanted to sell it!!

JohnCRaven · 03/11/2018 08:51

FREE? She wants reimbursing for something that was free and doesn't affect use? She could replace clip and sell on to reumburse her petrol money if she's that hard up!

How far she travelled for a free item is not your responsibility.
