Gave something away for free, but person now wants petrol money refunded?

I feel like I'm not being unreasonable, but maybe I am?

I put up a pushchair for free on a group (decent brand). Someone asked if it was in good condition and they'd be very grateful to have it. I said yes it's in really good condition (which it is).

However, there's a clip that's on the side (not really a relevant part) that has a crack in it, it's still useable but there is a crack. I didn't think much of it.

Lady messages me saying she has found it has a crack on the clip but I said it was in really good condition, and she couldn't have drove 30 miles for it if I hadn't have said it was in good condition and would now like her petrol money back???

AIBU to say no?

OP posts:

I’d ask the wench outright if she’s planning to sell it and if that’s the reason she’s coming sniffing around for undue “compensation”.

Petalflowers · 03/11/2018 08:56

Hushed had a chance to view it before taking it away. Ignore.

billybagpuss · 03/11/2018 08:58

Why the hell would the OP refund the fuel, I really don't understand all the people suggesting she should. Theres nothing wrong with the item whatsoever, CF clearly had an ulterior motive, either just ignore or send a whole page of laughing emojis.

Def report to the admin of the page though it is certainly not in the spirit of the thing.

Returnofthesmileybar · 03/11/2018 08:59

I'd text her back "If you wanted a perfect pram then you should have bought one, I guarantee you it would have cost you more than £4 which is roughly what it cost you in petrol to get that. I'm embarrassed for you actually, you won't get a penny from me but thanks for the reality check that people who get stuff for free are often grabby fuckers"

Then block her and report to admin

User9870 · 03/11/2018 08:59

Wow how cheeky....someone who really needed it would have been grateful crack or no crack.

When my DD was around 2 her pram where started falling off randomly. DH fixed it but knew it was a matter of time before it fell off again. We didn't want to buy a new pram at this stage as she walked most places but it was needed for the school run. Then we saw one advertised for free so we asked if we could have it. Drove about 15 miles there and 15 back and collected. Got it home and they had left chocolate in a pocket and had gone mouldy....you know what we did.... We cleaned it!!!! And it was fine after. Week later the old pram fell apart so there free one was used from then on until no longer needed and passed onto charity.

She is a CF and probably wanted to sell it.

Thisreallyisafarce · 03/11/2018 09:00

No long explanations, just "piss off you cheeky tosser".

Nanna50 · 03/11/2018 09:01

Tell her it is in very good condition and if she’s not satisfied to give it away to someone else for free or sell it for the cost of her petrol. Don’t refund her and report to the group admin.

I stopped offering free items because I could not believe the cheeky fuckery of some people. I used to put them up on the page and donate them to an appropriate charity after a couple of days if no one turned up for them.

I even had one woman ask me to go get it back out of the charity shop as she saw my post too late!

RedTulip86 · 03/11/2018 09:03

Tell her she has more front than Blackpool. Cheeky cow with brass neck. Everytime I went to collected a freebie I took a token chocs to say thank you. And no, I don’t deliver items offered for free. If you really want it you’ll find a way to collect it.

puguin86 · 03/11/2018 09:03

This is why I now give stuff to charity

Yanbu

Tell her to do one

Agree she was going to sell it on and is trying to con you as well

bimbobaggins · 03/11/2018 09:10

Just tell her she must have cracked it when she was driving home

SunnyCoco · 03/11/2018 09:10

So rude of her. Of course you should not give her any petrol money. I would block her.

Unfortunately due to these kinds of bad experiences I am now in agreement with those who don’t give things for free any more. Even if I put it for a token £5 people are much more grateful and polite.
Like a PP I also take a box of chocolates if I am lucky enough to be on the receiving end of a free or cheap donation.

Tahani · 03/11/2018 09:13

You should say, I'll refund out of what you paid for it,

ChimesAtMidnight · 03/11/2018 09:15

Oh yes, bimbobaggins has it.

Oysterbabe · 03/11/2018 09:16

She definitely wants to sell it.

I remember I sold a bike cheap, I think it was £20. It was worth more but I just wanted rid of it. It was far from perfect condition but useable and advertised accurately. A man came to see it and was going on about it being for his wife to travel to work and he was disappointed it wasn't in better condition and he had come a long way. He wobbled the pedals and huffed and sighed and eventually I let him have it for £10. The next day it was on gumtree for £50. A lot of people use Facebook selling / Freecycle etc to make money and are not genuine.

tenorladybeaker · 03/11/2018 09:18

Of course you shouldn't refund the petrol. It's none of your concern. She is certainly being a cheeky fucker.

Reply "don't be ridiculous. no." and don't enter into any further communication.

SunnyCoco · 03/11/2018 09:22

OysterBabe that’s so horrible of him :(

ladypenelopeepee · 03/11/2018 09:24

People value things more if they have to pay for them. Fact.

PowerhouseOfTheCell · 03/11/2018 09:25

Cheeky bitch is huffing glue wanting the petrol money

SinkGirl · 03/11/2018 09:29

Find your nearest baby bank and donate any stuff there in future - they’ll make sure it goes to someone who really needs and appreciates it.

Please don’t just block her - tell her off first! People need to know this is not an acceptable way to behave.

Childrenofthesun · 03/11/2018 09:31

Rubbish. She collected it so was bought "as seen". All responsibility is on her.

JaniceBattersby · 03/11/2018 09:37

Yes she’ll have been wanting to sell it. Check eBay/ local selling sites where she lives. It’ll be on there.

Liojhcdst · 03/11/2018 09:38

Cheeky frickin bitch!!!! She new it wasnt brand new. Obviously there'd be superficial marks. You've saved her hundreds of pounds. I wouldn't even reply, or if anything say you've got something for the cost of a few quid petrol and wtf do you expect?? !!!

ginghamstarfish · 03/11/2018 09:41

I'd never give anything like this for free, too many grabby people, and yes agree she was probably going to sell it. I'd get it back and report her.

MicroManaged · 03/11/2018 09:46

‘Ha ha that’s a good one! I assume you’re joking because you surely couldn’t be stupid enough to think I’d not only give you a free pram but then pay you to get it?!’

GlitterEverywhere · 03/11/2018 09:50

It's sounds like "good condition" was exactly the correct description.

You didn't say "immaculate condition" or "excellent condition"
