Gave something away for free, but person now wants petrol money refunded?

I feel like I'm not being unreasonable, but maybe I am?

I put up a pushchair for free on a group (decent brand). Someone asked if it was in good condition and they'd be very grateful to have it. I said yes it's in really good condition (which it is).

However, there's a clip that's on the side (not really a relevant part) that has a crack in it, it's still useable but there is a crack. I didn't think much of it.

Lady messages me saying she has found it has a crack on the clip but I said it was in really good condition, and she couldn't have drove 30 miles for it if I hadn't have said it was in good condition and would now like her petrol money back???

AIBU to say no?

I would take joy in saying of course, return the pushchair and I will refund your petrol, one way. Here you go £3.50

Why would you take joy in paying to get something back that you didn't want (to the extent that you gave it away for free)?

selepele · 03/11/2018 19:59

shes deluded don't give her a penny

Fromage · 03/11/2018 20:20

"Dear Mrs Cheeky-Fucker, I'm so sorry about the cracked clip - I had no idea it was damaged. Of course I will refund you your petrol money. If you just return the pushchair to me, that would be awesome. Shall we say £30 for petrol?
That would be a highly convenient amount because, as I'm sure you'll agree, you've now had the pushchair for [amount of time] and £30 is my hire charge for that period. So if you could just return it, we can call it quits.
Lots of love,
Igenix"

Obi73 · 04/11/2018 17:22

Tell her to jog on the cheeky mare!

SunnyTikka · 04/11/2018 17:23

Tell her to piss off.

becky080770 · 04/11/2018 17:26

Outrageous! YANBU.

bobstersmum · 04/11/2018 17:26

She must have been going to sell it on, otherwise why would she be bothered about a clip that doesn't affect the use of the pushchair, that she got for free anyway? She must be mental. Tell her in no uncertain terms to piss right off.

chrismse · 04/11/2018 17:32

Some people just take the mick l would ignore her .

Bullit · 04/11/2018 17:32

That’s reficulious !!! How ungrateful can somebody be disgusting how dare they. Have the cheek to ask for petrol get the pushchair back give it to the charity shop instead !!

mrsdarcey78 · 04/11/2018 17:33

I have given away hundreds of pounds of items, clothing, food etc to people on the freegle sites and facebook sites and I have had it all, from they want me to deliver it, and also set it up for them, asking if things come with extra things, such as I gave away my henry hoover as I needed a pet/filter one as my daughter has chronic lung disease, and had about 20 people asking for it, one wanting it delivered and wanting to know if it came with bags!. I am disabled and my kids are disabled, I am full time carer, and have offered things such as cot beds, pushchairs, kitchen items all sorts, all in good working clean condition. I am unable to drive and put that in every advert. Or people send messages saying "want it" or similar not even a please. Drives me mad x

Nousernamefound · 04/11/2018 17:33

Sounds to me like she was going to sell on and now doesn’t think she'll get as much as she thought. Either way, you are being completely reasonable unlike her.

Workreturner · 04/11/2018 17:34

* I would take joy in saying of course, return the pushchair and I will refund your petrol, one way. Here you go £3.50**

That’s just odd

jessebuni · 04/11/2018 17:36

Her fault, she should’ve checked it was up to her standard before leaving with it if she was that picky about something she was getting for free. No way does she get petrol money she’s trying her luck. Block her.

Workreturner · 04/11/2018 17:36

She’s shockingly rude

But I have zero problem with her reselling

gladtown · 04/11/2018 17:37

YANBU

I have one request though. Please post the conversation you had with the CF to www.reddit.com/r/ChoosingBeggars/

There's an entire site dedicated to people like this.

Unbelievable though, getting something for free then having the cheek to complain about it.

Naughtynurse · 04/11/2018 17:37

That’s a complete liberty...cheeky bitch...

AJPTaylor · 04/11/2018 17:40

Cheeky fucker
I now sell everything on eBay,start at a quid, donate 100 per cent to a relevant charity, ie Shelter, Save the Children etc.
Tell her to do one.

Devora13 · 04/11/2018 17:45

If only I could find a picture of a giraffe to post, you could send that to her and say 'This is what you're having!'

cherish123 · 04/11/2018 17:46

She's being unreasonable and cheeky. Tell her to donate to it charity if she doesn't want it. Do not give her the petrol money. Some people are so mean. If she wants pristine, she can buy one herself.

wallowinwater · 04/11/2018 17:53

I’m a member of a group where we give away stuff for free (locally) so they don’t go to landfill. It works really well a lot of the time, we’ve had some great stuff off it too. Most people including us really appreciate it.

needsahouseboy · 04/11/2018 17:56

I no longer put things on free sites for this very reason, I chuck stuff up on my facebook and my friends that want the crap I'm getting rid of are normally very grateful unlike CF strangers. She probably wanted to sell it on.

Bigbum53 · 04/11/2018 17:58

What a blooming check some people want blood!! Be straight to the point tell her u got a decent pushchair for free, delivery was never included and nor is petrol money!! If
It’s not what u thought pass to someone else 😡

PleaseJustSayNo · 04/11/2018 17:58

I think I'd apologise and advise her that should she wish to return the item, you would be more than happy to refund for every penny that she paid for it.

PepsiLola · 04/11/2018 18:02

I'd say if you don't want it I'll pick it up off you!
What a CF

onegiftedgal · 04/11/2018 18:10

YANBU at all. She is obviously a free collector and is selling it on.
What's 30 miles petrol anyway, £3?
You could always tell her to bring it back and say you'll give her £6 as you could tell her that they are selling for £30 on ebay.
That should shut her up the cf.
