Gave something away for free, but person now wants petrol money refunded?

I feel like I'm not being unreasonable, but maybe I am?

I put up a pushchair for free on a group (decent brand). Someone asked if it was in good condition and they'd be very grateful to have it. I said yes it's in really good condition (which it is).

However, there's a clip that's on the side (not really a relevant part) that has a crack in it, it's still useable but there is a crack. I didn't think much of it.

Lady messages me saying she has found it has a crack on the clip but I said it was in really good condition, and she couldn't have drove 30 miles for it if I hadn't have said it was in good condition and would now like her petrol money back???

AIBU to say no?

Disregard that it’s free, ell not really. that’s the whole premise of the thread.
A freebie and A chancer

Justcallmestep · 04/11/2018 22:29

I’d have told her to have sat in the pram and wheeled herself home. The cheek!

MoaningSickness · 04/11/2018 22:38

People very rarely appreciate being given things for free.

I've had lots of things from for and I am extremely grateful for all of it. I have had a couple of things that turned out not to be quite what I was expecting, I just passed them on for free to others.

It's astounding to me that people take the piss like this to people doing them a favour.

Ginburee · 04/11/2018 23:04

It was free, give admin a heads up for C.F. as she may have form.

Shewhomustbeobeyed1 · 05/11/2018 00:36

Tell her to F**K right off. Cheeky cow

woollyheart · 05/11/2018 00:51

Tell her that she broke it, and she should compensate you for the broken part.

penisbeakers · 05/11/2018 01:15

Tell her to fuck off.

sophe · 05/11/2018 06:54

picture would help

notsohippychick · 05/11/2018 07:01

If she genuinely needed it it would matter about a crack!

She’s trying to sell it. She probably trawls the free pages for things to sell!

Easilyflattered · 05/11/2018 07:15

Cheeky cow!

I have found advertising things for free on FB gets me no end of time wasters. Asking a small amount, say £10 for a sofa, seems to screen them out.

Offer to collect the pushchair, I bet she won't give you her address.

Troels · 05/11/2018 07:27

Where do you up your fuel? There are about 4.5 litres in a gallon. A litre of fuel costs around £1.30, so for 30 miles, you’re paying about £3.50 for 30 miles.
Grin I just spotted that, I forget it's sold in litres. Still in gallons in my my house after living abroad so long. So you are right. I paid £1.24 a litre not gallon the other day

DayManChampionOfTheSun · 05/11/2018 07:30

Even disregarding the fact it was free, you don’t get the price of your taxi refunded when you take something back to Zara

Omg but how good would it be if you could!!!!

OP - yadnbu! They are a massive cheeky fucker. I agree with pps that she was going to sell it, probably wants you to refund the (what, £5? Petrol money) so she can buy a new clip with it.

Dollykitten · 05/11/2018 08:17

I wouldn't even reply tbh- just totally ignore this cheeky cow!

Wmarie22 · 05/11/2018 08:55

The pushchair was FREE ,how dare she ask for petrol money back!
If it was something she'd paid for for and you had charged for that's a different story but no petrol money back ,you can decide whether you want the pushchair back or just forget the whole saga and block her !

manicmij · 05/11/2018 09:00

Has this person ever heard of "buyer beware" or in this case "just be grateful". YANBU do not refund pettol costs, do not even respond.

jwalkden · 05/11/2018 09:01

Cheeky woman! I would ignore her. She has a pushchair for free - which she had the opportunity to examine before taking it away - so what is she going to do? No money has exchanged hands, no 'contract' to take you to court over. She could have examined the pram and refused it (as anyone could, if they had took it upon themselves to travel to pick something up whether it was for sale or being given away). Would she have wanted her petrol money for calling over just to look at it? I would definitely not give her any money for petrol.

Dadstheworld · 05/11/2018 09:02

Reply with anything other than "LOL" Is a massive waste of time and energy.

Zimlu · 05/11/2018 10:13

That infuriates me. Don't even reply. Block her. All about karma honey! You have done a good thing and in no way should get anything other than positive feedback.

MadameOvary · 05/11/2018 12:37

Fucking "pram huns" are a waste of skin.
I sold a pushchair on here to someone who was "really grateful" for it and would "use it", for peanuts.
She sold it on ebay, breaking it up into parts first.
I hate sneaky fuckers like that.

YANBU if she wants petrol money I would want the pushchair back even if it cost me to collect it. No way would she get to keep it

This!

Drive back and collect it! She's obviously trying it on with you disgusting, I'd never let her keep it now, even if it cost me to collect it!

BeatriceBee · 05/11/2018 22:13

What the heck! It was free, what does she expect, a guarantee? I would just tell her no, report her to admin and block her if you can.

ImHudsonHesHicks · 05/11/2018 22:16

@Igenix

So what did you say then? It's been a couple of days, do you have an update?

ToftyAC · 06/11/2018 11:49

I run a local free site on FB. If one of our group members did this to someone gifting, as a responsible group Admin, I’d delete and block them & then have them blacklisted on fellow local sites. She’s a CF and no mistake.

Icanttakemuchmore · 06/11/2018 15:32

Reply ' the pram was free and more than usable and has a lot of life left in it still. How ungrateful! I'm not refunding anything!'
