In expecting people to read the FUCKING thread?!

Is it me or is it getting worse??

I may accidentally miss an update if the thread is really long --quite often because there's too many comments that haven't read the full thread.

But if you can't take the time to read the whole thread (you can clearly see how long it is before posting), then wait to comment until you can!

The thread gets annoying to read because it's full of irrelevant comments.

Also, just commenting without reading as a matter of course can sometimes be upsetting to an op who's in more delicate situation.

Eg "I think my husband's cheating should I check his phone?" Then getting pages of 'yes check his phone" by people that think they don't need to waste time reading the thread, they'd rather hear the sound of their own voice. When it's actually moved on that the husband got caught out and moved out to be with the other woman last week and poor op is having to deal with 'yes check his phone' again and again.

Honestly, sometimes it's not like a discussion forum it's like an echo chamber for poster's opinions.

Gah. Sorry. Rant over.

Watch me accidentally not rtft in the near future. Grin

What !!! You can no longer have 1000 posts per page ??

Jesus, how so people cope?

I just scroll down (fast - on app) and stop at all the OP's comments.

I'm liking the idea that I'm royalty !

Allergictoironing · 10/10/2018 15:37

I think even more irritating than failure to RTFT is failure to read the OP properly in the first place. Already today I've read a few threads where posters have said something that makes it clear that they've read about half the OPs first post and started to type their comment without finishing reading it. An example of this (not from any particular thread today) is where the OP gives the ages of her DC right at the start, and later posters start asking how old the DC are, or where the OP makes it clear she's not in the UK and people start quoting UK law.

Lweji · 10/10/2018 15:59

@Tinty

By asking about worms, I aimed to portray the idea that I hadn't RTFT.
As in a jokey response to the OP, signaled by the Wink.

(actually, when I posted, I had already checked why people were talking about worms)

Tinty · 10/10/2018 16:04

@Lweji Grin

Note to self, read posts more thoroughly to avoid looking like a tit!

Roussette · 10/10/2018 16:38

mummyofone there's no need to go. As I said on t'other thread, I think we all forget how clunky the MN site can be and finding your way round can be tricky even for an old dinosaur like me Grin And I have been here since dinosaurs roamed the earth (no idea how long but more than 10 years).

That's why I don't go on MN on my phone. Can't be arsed to find out how it works!

Roussette · 10/10/2018 16:39

Allergi Oh yes, I agree with that. I think why the hell are you asking how old the OPs children are when she's said twice! V annoying

fifithefoof · 10/10/2018 16:55

Thanks @LurkingWaspi and @FlowThroughIt

I wasn't having a pity party, just trying to illustrate that one can have multiple things going on and not just be being a bitter hung up old hag on the one issue.

FullMetalRabbit · 10/10/2018 16:59

It's a shame when eleventy million people post the same thing (eg. cancel the cheque) as I often scroll past so fast that I miss the posts that have got an interesting story eg. "this happened to me and I handled it like this" - so frustrating

SauvignonBlanche · 10/10/2018 17:10

Can I clarify, what does the "f" in RTFT actually stand for...? I naively thought it was "full"

If you check the MN official acronym list it’s definitely ‘fucking’. Grin

Lweji · 10/10/2018 17:12

You're not fully a MNetter until you get a roasting and fuck up in some way, including with RTFT.
Just apologise and move on.

The gold membership, though, is when you get posts deleted. Just a few, or you explode (get a ban).

Lweji · 10/10/2018 17:13

You can no longer have 1000 posts per page ??

Yes, you can.

MyMuffinsStuck · 10/10/2018 17:55

lweji My first ever tag on a mumsnet post! I got an email and everything!

Had to RTFFT to find it though...!

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/10/2018 21:24

Lweji new accounts apparently no longer have the option of 1000 posts. I think they are limited to 100.

This is why I can never deregister from MN, when if I came back with a new account my scrollable 1000 post threads would be no more.

SauvignonBlanche · 10/10/2018 21:32

I’d hate to lose the 1000 posts function!

I like the app because it's all just one long page of messages BUT I hate the app because yes, you can change the colour of OP and your own name, but ONLY THE NAMES. Something that is completely useless when you are trying to whizz through hundreds of RTFT posts!

thenightsky · 10/10/2018 23:31

The app I have lets me change the colour of the whole of OP's posts and mine Confused

I also have one long page of 1,000 posts on the desktop site.

I wonder why we all seem to have different versions of MN.

Innocentinfamy · 11/10/2018 06:31

@Boreofwhabylon you gem!

Have been failing forever to find how to change colour of OP'S

Only ever use mobile site

So

Switch to desktop mode

Option to change colour magically appears in customise settings

Switch back to mobile site & it still works

That's my day made Wink

BoreOfWhabylon · 11/10/2018 08:42

OMG @InnocentInfamy, you RTFT!!!

Grin
mydogisthebest · 11/10/2018 09:22

It annoys me so much.

Even if a poster is new it surely is obvious that in order to reply/give advice you have to have the full story not just read the OP.

If I open a thread and it's already 10 pages long I often just close it again because I don't have the time or just can't be bothered to read it all. I would not dream of jumping in and posting.

PhilomenaButterfly · 11/10/2018 10:04

Where is customise settings please InnocentInfamy? Confused

ohshitonit · 11/10/2018 10:05

Why isn't DH more involved? Ltb

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 11/10/2018 10:09

Click on the down arrow next to Talk up there - it's the first thing that pops up in the drop down menu :)

PhilomenaButterfly · 11/10/2018 10:13

Ooh! Pretty! Thanks Thumb! 😆

PhilomenaButterfly · 11/10/2018 10:16

It doesn't keep the changes when I'm back on the mobile site though. 😭
