In expecting people to read the FUCKING thread?!

Is it me or is it getting worse??

I may accidentally miss an update if the thread is really long --quite often because there's too many comments that haven't read the full thread.

But if you can't take the time to read the whole thread (you can clearly see how long it is before posting), then wait to comment until you can!

The thread gets annoying to read because it's full of irrelevant comments.

Also, just commenting without reading as a matter of course can sometimes be upsetting to an op who's in more delicate situation.

Eg "I think my husband's cheating should I check his phone?" Then getting pages of 'yes check his phone" by people that think they don't need to waste time reading the thread, they'd rather hear the sound of their own voice. When it's actually moved on that the husband got caught out and moved out to be with the other woman last week and poor op is having to deal with 'yes check his phone' again and again.

Honestly, sometimes it's not like a discussion forum it's like an echo chamber for poster's opinions.

Gah. Sorry. Rant over.

Watch me accidentally not rtft in the near future. Grin

I really do wish there was an option to isolate just the OPs comments and updates.

This would be great.

BlueEyedPersephone · 10/10/2018 11:01

@blossom101001 not on the mobile site though 😔

Wagonwheelsandstrawberryjam · 10/10/2018 11:01

Haven't RTFT but if you go into settings you can change it so the Ops comments show up in a different colour. HTH

can you tell I'm on a roll today?
hope that my strikethrough works I haven't done one for ages, if it does I'll do it more often Grin

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 10/10/2018 11:02

BoreOfWhabylon Thank you! Grin

BlueEyedPersephone · 10/10/2018 11:02

@Wagonwheelsandstrawberryjam 😂

fifithefoof · 10/10/2018 11:02

@Thankfuckitsfriday1 but it can actually be upsetting in some situations. I had a very serious thread (long time ago and name changed a lot since) and found the 100's of comments aimed at my first post quite distressing.

But you're right, it's the internet and one should have a thicker skin.

Changing the colour isn't available on the desktop version

I only ever go on desktop version and I'm a pretty mauve and OP is a fetching pink so think it is available

fifithefoof · 10/10/2018 11:03

I'll ask mn to withdraw that post.

Sorry I haven't rtft but I'd just cancel the cheque.

mooglycrunch · 10/10/2018 11:03

BoreOfWhabylon

Can't believe I'm back trying to figure this out again!

I can't do what you've just shown, I don't get those options, it drove me mad last time. I asked MNHQ and everything, never got an answer, never git to the bottom of it!

In expecting people to read the FUCKING thread?!
badtime · 10/10/2018 11:04

sobeyond, yes it is. Someone put an image showing how a few posts above you.

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/10/2018 11:04

Mummyof0ne Are you in the mobile site? Try switching to the desktop site to access customise, then switch back after changing preferences.

I can switch to mobile site if I want to by clicking the link right at the bottom of the page.

llangennith · 10/10/2018 11:05

If you can't be bothered to read the whole thread then just don't post on that thread.

fifithefoof · 10/10/2018 11:06

@CheddarIsNotTheOnlyCheese

I agree with your OP fifi but you then single out a poster who has said she has just given birth, is new to MN and is struggling. When she's been here a while she'll get it but I think a little kindness wouldn't go amiss.

Very true. I've reported my post to mn and asked them to delete it.

I was just irked as despite it being pointed out it could be upsetting she said she still wouldn't bother to read whole threads.

There's quite a few other threads I've mentioned this on today so this thread isn't just about her by any means. It's about bloody hundreds. Grin

QueenOfIce · 10/10/2018 11:07

I wish we had the option in the app of only reading the op and their subsequent updates.

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/10/2018 11:08

Moogly try using the desktop site to do it.

fifithefoof · 10/10/2018 11:10

A like or dislike button would be amazing. It would save the quick 'yes, check his email' posts quite a lot I'm thinking!

And maybe people who get a huge amount or proportion of disliked comments could flag up to hq. Other forums do similar.

JeanPagett · 10/10/2018 11:11

I agree, it's so incredibly entitled to think you're far too busy and important to RTFT but that the OP couldn't possibly live without your peerless insight.

Tbh I think only reading the OP's posts is a bit rude too though. It's not exactly entering into the spirit of a forum if you're only responding to one person. I often think other posters on a thread say something that really changes my view or offers an important insight, and completely ignoring that seems just as rude.

I mean, if you don't have time to read the entire thread just don't post. We'll all cope without you.

aaaaargghhhhelpme · 10/10/2018 11:11

I think it’s fine when people are new and they don’t know. it’s when it’s explained to them and they continue to argue and derail the thread and make it all about them. It’s just so rude.

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/10/2018 11:11

Maybe someone should post in Site Stuff asking how to customise in the various offerings of MN. I only know how to do it in desktop on my ipad but the changes then show when I use mobile site on my phone.

SilverySurfer · 10/10/2018 11:12

LTB

Wagonwheelsandstrawberryjam · 10/10/2018 11:13

You do know this is going to get deleted for being a TAAT?

fifithefoof · 10/10/2018 11:14

@JeanPagett totally! If it's a long thread I can get my mind changed many times along the way by other wise mumsnutterz.

I also wish there was a block button. There's a couple of belligerent racists I'd LOVE to not hear from.

OP posts:
fifithefoof · 10/10/2018 11:15

@Wagonwheelsandstrawberryjam but it isn't. Confused

I've posted on quite a few threads this morning saying 'rtft'.

It's actually about pretty much every thread on mn!
