In expecting people to read the FUCKING thread?!

Is it me or is it getting worse??

I may accidentally miss an update if the thread is really long --quite often because there's too many comments that haven't read the full thread.

But if you can't take the time to read the whole thread (you can clearly see how long it is before posting), then wait to comment until you can!

The thread gets annoying to read because it's full of irrelevant comments.

Also, just commenting without reading as a matter of course can sometimes be upsetting to an op who's in more delicate situation.

Eg "I think my husband's cheating should I check his phone?" Then getting pages of 'yes check his phone" by people that think they don't need to waste time reading the thread, they'd rather hear the sound of their own voice. When it's actually moved on that the husband got caught out and moved out to be with the other woman last week and poor op is having to deal with 'yes check his phone' again and again.

Honestly, sometimes it's not like a discussion forum it's like an echo chamber for poster's opinions.

Gah. Sorry. Rant over.

Watch me accidentally not rtft in the near future. Grin

For some reason I've never been able to work out - on my laptop my posts are in green and OPs are pink but on my phone they reverse. (I think its because my laptop is set to mobile and phone to desktop - no idea why) If I move between devices I do on occasion get a bit freaked out when I appear to be posting A LOT on a thread and then realise I'm reading the OPs posts. Grin

fifithefoof · 10/10/2018 12:11

My ops posts are green (and I get the 1000 posts as I'm an old gimmer) but I can't for the life of fuck see where on the website you can change the colours. The option just isn't there. Great. Now I'm even more annoyed! Grin

So many 'fucking' threads, rude .

Failingat40 · 10/10/2018 12:14

Yanbu yes of course in an ideal world every forum user would read the full thread but in reality as we see commonly here on MN which is visited by new mums with babies and others who have found a thread via a google search, they don't rtft. It's not unique to MN.

It's not a serious crime, MN is for everyone, not just the regulars.

The way you've ranted about the woman on the CF childcare thread we abusive tbh and not really in the spirit.
If you transferred that behaviour to a work setting or toddler group you'd quite rightly be banned.

Have a little understanding for others and peace out. Geez.

Perhaps MNHQ could modify from their end so that OPs posts are highlighted automatically throughout a thread.

Tinty · 10/10/2018 12:14

@Mummyof0ne

Don't leave, I thought kudo's to you for coming back after all the stroppiness towards you and others, on the other thread.

I think it takes a while to get used to the different rulz on mumsnet.

If you read my post above, I have only just found out how to save a thread without posting, and it's quite obvious really, Blush and I have been reading mumsnet for about a year.

fifithefoof · 10/10/2018 12:17

@Failingat40 I've apologised for what I've said to Mummy.

As I've said TWICE in this thread.

RTFT.

I've had my arse handed to me over the years on mn. It's can be harsh here yes, it can also be a place of massive support and love.

Here are other more, wishy washy, hunny forums if you so seek @Failingat40

It took me years to figure out how to watch a thread!

OP posts:
bridgetreilly · 10/10/2018 12:21

Haven't RTFT. But YABU to think you can or should control the way anyone else uses the internet or posts on a public forum.

fifithefoof · 10/10/2018 12:23

Mumsnet really needs a facepalm emoji.

OP posts:
ThumbWitchesAbroad · 10/10/2018 12:26

I agree with you though, Fifi.
One of the worst types of thread is where the OP asks if they are BU, gets roundly told YES YABU, they apologise and accept it in good grace, but still the thread non-readers pile in and keep kicking.

So annoying!

Ngaio2 · 10/10/2018 12:27

Can’t offer tech advice because I’m hopeless but needed to do the colour thingy for a second device couple of weeks ago and when I finally figured out where to go (of course I promptly forgot that bit of info) I found I had a choice of colours.
When there’s more than 3 or 4 pages to a thread I convert to 100 per page and can scroll for OP’s coloured posts.
Having said that, it is good value (most of the time ) to read at least the majority of other mumsnutterz posts for their knowledge, experience and good humour. Depends somewhat on what kind of day you’re having as the nutterz who fail to Rtft or whose lack of comprehension has them putting words into the OP’s mouth can get one rather irritated

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 10/10/2018 12:31

For those of you who cannot find Customise, could I introduce you to the wonderful

Ctrl + F

Type in the OP's username. Or even a little bit of it. Then hit the down arrow - you will see every post by the OP.

You could even use it to type in "cancel the cheque" for example, to see how many other people have already advised the OP to, for example, cancel the cheque, before you advise her to.

OPs Being Terrified of Upsetting the Regulars

^ above ^

Here is another thread for those who fancy another fiesty/fighty thread, this morning. Grin

gothefcktosleep · 10/10/2018 12:32

🙄

Really? Glad that’s the only thing in your life worth getting het up about.

TaintforTheLikesOfWe · 10/10/2018 12:35

What I love about this thread is that loads of 'Mumsnutterz' have come on to learn how to change and improve the experience on here.

Well done OP.

I find it intensely annoying when members post on a thread without reading the OP properly. It worries me that people like this would be on my jury sometime Grin when even quite large detail is lost on them.

fifithefoof · 10/10/2018 12:36

@gothefcktosleep no. My Step Father dying, finally finding out we can't have another child due to infertility and dh's parents splitting up all this week have got me pretty het up too.

I'll see your eye roll and raise you to HmmBiscuit

OP posts:
fifithefoof · 10/10/2018 12:37

@ThumbWitchesAbroad YES! It's horrible when an op has a life realisation, does a complete turn about yet still gets a kicking. Sad

OP posts:
CoolGirlsNeverGetAngry · 10/10/2018 12:37

Thank God, finally got the OPs message highlighted after IDK how long. Thanks!

LurkingWaspi · 10/10/2018 12:44

Anyone know how to lay drains?
my next problem....

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 10/10/2018 12:46

You could probably start a thread about that Lurking and PigletJohn might be able to tell you, if he's still around.
but bear in mind that several people will come on to tell you to get a plumber in or something for ages after you thank people for telling you how to do it, and have in fact finished laying the drains.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 10/10/2018 13:05

It’s definitely not a ‘Thread about A thread’. It’s a thread about rude, annoying, self absorbed twonks...

...I’m not sure which annoys me more? Posters who don’t read the thread at all, or posters whose comprehension levels are so poor they might as well not have read it. Both are HUGELY annoying.

MyMuffinsStuck · 10/10/2018 13:12

Can I clarify, what does the "f" in RTFT actually stand for...? I naively thought it was "full" Confused

Or have I missed this being explained in the thread I've yet to read fully...? Wink

How do I get mumsnutter status?

fifithefoof · 10/10/2018 13:13

I always though it was 'fuck'! Blush

I think you become a mumsnutter when you've read too many 'cancel the cheques'. Grin

OP posts:
Vonvon222 · 10/10/2018 13:22

It's not. I've kicked off on it this morning on at least 5 other threads.

But for a repeat offender it's just that you like the sound of your own bloody voice.

The irony, OP.
