Shoplifters or drug dealers. I say that with professional confidence 😁

LouLouLove · 23/07/2018 22:30

Seeing people in skinny jeans is making me sweat! Oh and women in opaque black tights, I honestly feel hot just looking at these people. I don't understand it either.

Plughole3 · 23/07/2018 22:31

In Marrakech lots of people were wearing coats. Similar temps to here so I assume they have acclimatised?

tbf I spent most of my summers in S of France from the age of 5 & feel the cold. I do find it weird here that at the first hint of sun, people strip off.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 23/07/2018 22:32

Maybe we urgently need a new international aviation law making it mandatory to remind people on flights between always-hot and usually-colder countries of the need to make coat-wearing choices extremely judicially; otherwise, in your best shrill 'Nan-over-the-Tannoy' voice, "Ooooooooooh, you won't feel the benefit!!!!"

IHeartKingThistle · 23/07/2018 22:48

When I lived in a relatively fashion-conscious bit of London I noticed this a lot and it was because the Autumn-Winter season stuff had come into the shops and they wanted to show they'd bought it first.

JaretsGirlfren · 23/07/2018 22:53

I have a medical condition which means I feel cold a lot, I have to wear black trousers and a black shirt to work-it’s killing me!! Shorts and vest tops when I’m not at work during this heat.

GabsAlot · 23/07/2018 23:39

MsBagelLady · 23/07/2018 23:47

because they are fuckin mental?

Ihuntmonsters · 23/07/2018 23:51

I bought my son a great coat a couple of Christmases ago. He pretty much only takes it off to shower or sleep. Including right through the summer (which were we live can be over 40 degrees for a couple of weeks every summer). Often teamed up with several scarves. He claims not to feel the heat but we've had lots of comments from other people that just looking at him makes them hot. When he was younger he often wore three or four t-shirts and a couple of hoodies, and he also wears joggers under his trousers. He is very slight so part of it is about looking bigger, he also has some AS traits and obviously likes the feel of the weight of the coat. He likes looking different too. It's a funny going out with him in the summer with his sister who wears light dresses or muscle t's and short shorts.

Menarefrommarsitwouldseem · 24/07/2018 00:15

Or they have to cover uniform

I have to travel around in mine so don't have time to get changed at each stop

I have to cover my uniform though.

Terramirabilis · 24/07/2018 00:17

I am fascinated by these people. It'll be 35+ all week where I am. I really have to stop myself going up to them and asking them why.

ToadOfSadness · 24/07/2018 00:25

I keep seeing women wearing boots, knee high ones mostly, and Ugglys.

How on earth people can force those skintight jeans on in this weather is beyond me.

I waited in the car the other day with the aircon on, watching people passing and, yes, some of them were wearing puffa jackets, Parkas, anoraks, and the odd Donkey jacket, while all around them were shorts, vests and little dresses. I like watching how people struggle with walking in sandals that probably only see the light of day for a few weeks each year and are unfamiliar, and sympathise because finding something comfortable to walk about in when it is hot is a bastard.

GunpowderGelatine · 24/07/2018 00:33

It was a meagre 23 degrees here today, but a few weeks ago when we had a fortnight of 30+ degrees I actually saw people in fleeces!! WTF!

CSISaraSidle · 24/07/2018 01:04

Autism- I wear my coat in all weather because I need to feel the weight.

ALongHardWinter · 24/07/2018 01:55

Separate people? As opposed to them being joined together? Grin. Sorry, just kidding. Seriously though,I understand your consternation. A few days ago when it was about 30 degrees,I saw a woman get on the bus wearing a long quilted jacket and a woolly bobble hat! I was sitting there practically melting and she looked like she was dressed for winter.

TheMaddHugger · 24/07/2018 02:40

Probably from the ME or Aussie, What you call a average summer temp is a mild winter day to us

Gwenhwyfar · 24/07/2018 07:36

"ED?!?! Does this mean something else as well as the 'gentleman's' condition?!"

Eating disorder I suppose. Anorexics feel the cold and might want to hide a too skinny body.

"Do you feel similarly personally aggrieved about and start name-calling menopausal women who experience hot flushes?"

This wasn't aimed at me, but I will say that people who turn the air con up too strong and are not wearing loose, cool clothing give me the rage. If you feel the heat, you need loose clothing, not to be showing lots of flesh in tight clothing and I think that's something a lot of people in this country don't get e.g. wearing shorts and a T-shirt is not going to be as cool as a long, loose, thin, summer dress.

eternalopt · 24/07/2018 08:08

They showed footage from the 1976 heatwave on the news today. Everyone was wearing coats and jumpers and the men were still in suits!

KinCat · 24/07/2018 08:14

I live in the tropics and often see people wearing thick hoodies and jumpers when it's over 30 degrees and very humid. I always find it suspicious and think they must be hiding something under there 😂

Having said that, I always wear jeans and usually a long sleeved top which Brits would probably think was overkill for how warm it is.

PinkFlamingo888 · 24/07/2018 08:20

I wear a coat for the 30 second walk from my car into my place of work and then back to my car at the end of the day as people aren’t allowed to see my uniform when I’m not on duty. I hate it and always feels so stupid though!

Gwenhwyfar · 24/07/2018 08:58

What are these jobs with secret uniforms? I thought it was either you changed at work (police, etc.) or you could go to work in your uniform. Do you then have to wear a coat that goes right down to the floor because your job is so secret?

Clionba · 24/07/2018 09:25

Yes, please enlighten me about secret uniforms.

eightfacesofthemoon · 24/07/2018 09:37

Secret uniforms??
SS?
NKVD?
Mossad?

didyouseetheflaresinthesky · 24/07/2018 09:50

Leggings are actually really cool in hot weather. They wick away the sweat but dry almost instantly. Cotton ones of course not those horrible sheer polyester ones.
