Saw some lunatic in a fur coat at School pick up last week and it was fucking boiling.

Nowt queerer than folk as they say...

notacooldad · 25/07/2018 18:30

One of them probably my DS!
He had his beanie on the other day, the clown!

WellTidy · 25/07/2018 18:32

Commuter train (no air con) into London at rush hour this morning - a lady was wearing a velvet skirt. I was gobsmacked, but it is nothing compared to puffs and fur coats already mentioned!

tempuser · 25/07/2018 18:33

My son wears a thick jacket (and a balaclava if it's an especially bad day). He has ASD and severe anxiety and can't leave the house any other way.

notacooldad · 25/07/2018 18:44

tempuser
I can understand why your son does that. Mine us just a Muppet!

noselimit · 25/07/2018 18:49

Err, where is this strange cadets rule?

It's UK wide and the MOD put out letters to every cadet parent last year regarding this.

It is an absolute rule, however clearly many don't follow it, that doesn't make it any less of a rule though.

Not strange. Official MOD ruling.

noselimit · 25/07/2018 18:50

That has to be nonsense

Nope.

not complete nonsense, then a rule made up by a paranoiac with no understanding of risk.

I'm your opinion. I would argue that the powers that be within the MOD know better.

noselimit · 25/07/2018 18:50

*in your opinion..

runningkeenster · 25/07/2018 18:53

Are they Italian? I remember being on holiday in Bologna years ago and it was mid to high 20s. We were very comfortable sitting at an outside cafe in shirt sleeves, everyone around us were wearing jackets and scarves!

squirrelnutkins1 · 25/07/2018 18:54

I parked up to go to my local shops today and a man was in the car with his window open and shouted to me "you need a coat, the doctor said, the heats killing people" 😂 I heard him say it again to some people behind me 🙈

ILikeyourHairyHands · 25/07/2018 19:07

Nose, I was at a cadets' unit last night, in a committee meeting. No covering up of uniform was occurring.

So I doubt that's come from the MOD.

noselimit · 25/07/2018 19:10

It did come from MOD

Just because you were at a meeting last night and cadets arrived in uniform doesn't mean it's not a thing.

100% this is a MOD ruling.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 25/07/2018 19:30

Well after Googling I found articles in the Mail, The Sun and The Express from 2013 saying cadets in Muslim areas were covering up, complete with the quote,

An MoD spokesman said: ‘We have not issued any orders for cadets not to wear their uniforms – it is a matter for individual detachments to decide.’

So er, no it's not.

BarbaraOcumbungles · 25/07/2018 19:39

My Sea Caded daughter isn’t allowed to walk to the unit in her uniform, she has to change there or be dropped off. It’s common sense if you think about it. People in military uniform are targets.

BarbaraOcumbungles · 25/07/2018 19:41

Er... it is.

It’s 33 degrees so why have I just seen 4 separate people in coats
buffyp · 25/07/2018 19:43

Don’t know where you have plucked that quote from hairy but I can back everyone else up that it absolutely is a MOD ruling. My daughter recently joined the air cadets and I have the official letter with the rule on it so excuse me if I believe that rather than someone on internet with no backed up source.

From 2013 Confused

So er, no it's not.

It is. 2013 was FIVE years ago. Things have changed.

Bearseatbeets · 25/07/2018 19:52

I wear jeans because I can’t be arsed shaving my legs. When they get done, I enjoy shorts and dresses for a week and then it’s back to jeans

ILikeyourHairyHands · 25/07/2018 19:57

Well that letter says, ' Whilst there is no absolute restriction, it is recommended'.

So er, no it's NOT an MoD ruling...

noselimit · 25/07/2018 20:02

Hmm really

Talk about twisting things Confused

BarbaraOcumbungles · 25/07/2018 20:14

🙄

Children at our unit are not allowed to walk to the unit in their uniform to keep them safe from terrorists. That is following a recommendation from the MOD.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 25/07/2018 21:48

Ok. Cool.

Well children at our unit haven't. Due to the fact they have sensible people overseeing the units.

I'd be interested to know where your units are.

I'm pretty sure I'm not twisting anything. You said there had been orders from the MoD, I merely pointed out they weren't orders but recommendations.

But if you'd prefer your children cowering in fear because of an extremely unlikely threat, be my guest!

noselimit · 25/07/2018 21:53

Well children at our unit haven't. Due to the fact they have sensible people overseeing the units.

Oh for fucks sake. It's nothing to do with the one person in charge of your squadron. It's an MOD ruling which is UK wide.

If it's not being enforced at your unit it is most certainly not because you have 'sensible' people in charge. Sensible people follow the rules. Idiots fail to protect. That's who is running your unit.

noselimit · 25/07/2018 21:55

But if you'd prefer your children cowering in fear because of an extremely unlikely threat, be my guest!

Who is cowering in dear Hmm

What a bizarre thing to say.

My DD walks along to cadets, goes inside, puts uniform on. After dismissal she changes back into civvies, leaves the unit, walks home.

Zero cowering. Zero fear. 100% sensible attitude and respect for the rules.

noselimit · 25/07/2018 21:55
