To be fed up of female pop stars always performing in pants/leotards?

Ok I know a woman can wear whatever she wants, but why does it seem mandatory for female artists to wear nothing but pants/variations thereof on their bottom half?!

Because women are judged on their ability to be alluring to the male gaze above anything else? Easier to assess allureishness in a leotard.

I have two young daughters and am really uncomfortable/slightly depressed if I'm honest, that this is what they'll think is the norm for female performers

You do have a point- easy to move around in etc. But if that's the point why is it always worn with high heels (which certainly for me would negate any comfort of the leotard), and why don't we ever see male singers in their pants?

Both sexes do. Because the judges need to be able to see the movements precisely.

Looks great / cool under stage lights / easy for quick costume changes / showcases dance moves.

I'm not judging, just uncomfortable as the mum of young daughters and sad that it's become de rigeur. I don't let my daughters watch music videos but they know songs of T Swift and Little Mix from friends...

Have a look a music videos from the 80’s. The women looked sexy and strong (think Madonna) without strutting in their underwear.

Male pop stars don't do a lot of dancing generally
