To be fed up of female pop stars always performing in pants/leotards?

Ok I know a woman can wear whatever she wants, but why does it seem mandatory for female artists to wear nothing but pants/variations thereof on their bottom half?! Confused

Are you joking using Madonna as the anti-leotard poster girl @shenanagins Confused

Male gaze
Women are only worth something if they're sexy
Patriarchy

mercurymaze · 27/05/2018 20:22

wtf madonna was always strutting in her underwear Grin

SmileEachDay · 27/05/2018 20:23

@alansbigplate you don't let them watch so as they grow up thinking there bodies are a sexual object that they should be ashamed of and cover up? Very strange. Surprised the amount of replies agreeing with you

Eh?

The massive objectifying of women in mainstream music is a huge problem. Thinking carefully about whether or not to expose children to it has fuck all to do with making them feel ashamed of their body. Quite the opposite in fact.

AlansBigPlate · 27/05/2018 20:24

Username...sorry I don't know how to quote....

To me there is a huge gulf between the options of: 1.not wanting my daughters to feel they have to bare oodles of flesh, to 2. being ashamed of their bodies and having to cover up!

and let's not forget cameo in his cod piece

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 27/05/2018 20:24

lol at madonna

IHaveBrilloHair · 27/05/2018 20:24

I'm all for women wearing whatever they want to, but I can't help but think Little Mix have to wear next to nothing, it's in their contracts.

TitsalinaBumsquat · 27/05/2018 20:25

Christine and the queens are on now and she’s definitely not in a leotard! Maybe Taylor likes to look and feel sexy when she performs? I’m sure she isn’t shoe horned into it against her wishes. If she looks and feels good then what’s the problem?

SoleBizzz · 27/05/2018 20:25

Camel toe is grim

StrugglingMumma · 27/05/2018 20:26

Any comments on Christine and the queens appearance.. nasty huge lovebite

AlansBigPlate · 27/05/2018 20:27

See - Christine and the Queens proving it is possible to dance about in trousers Wink

AlansBigPlate · 27/05/2018 20:28

StrugglingMumma is it not a mole/birthmark?

Maybe Taylor likes to look and feel sexy when she performs?

And who decided that “asmuch flesh on show as poss, preferably wriggling around” is sexy?

BackforGood · 27/05/2018 20:29

I totally agree with you OP.
Think it is very sad that things seem to have gone backwards since the 70s, rather than forwards like you'd have hoped.
Very depressing.

Shenanagins · 27/05/2018 20:29

Look at like a virgin/material girl/papa don’t preach.Agreed Madonna did at times strut but there were plenty of times she didn’t.

username122 · 27/05/2018 20:30

If you look at what little mix wear when not performing it still tends to be quite flesh baring and sexy so I would assume that's what they're comfortable in and what they feel good in. Why should they be encouraged to cover up if that's the case? Are we going back in time?

helacells · 27/05/2018 20:30

You're right OP, it's sexist and depressing I'm guessing they are groomed within an inch of their lives to appeal to men- sex sells. You never see boy bands prancing about half dressed

TitsalinaBumsquat · 27/05/2018 20:31

@SmileEachDay I don’t know if you saw her but she really wasn’t showing much flesh at all, a few inches between her thigh high boots and her leotard. Other than that it was high necked and long sleeved.

StrugglingMumma · 27/05/2018 20:32

@AlansBigPlate she does have a mole near the front but definitely a lovebite left side towards the back

AlansBigPlate · 27/05/2018 20:33

Helacells

Exactly!

SmileEachDay · 27/05/2018 20:34

Titania - I didn’t, I was talking more generally. Although thigh high boots and leotard sound pretty much designed to titilate.

TitsalinaBumsquat · 27/05/2018 20:34

@helacells this comes to mind 😂 although this was yonks ago now!

lucydogz · 27/05/2018 20:34

Was it last year that Jessie j did a festival wearing a flesh coloured leotard with black woollen bits where your public hair goes and spots where nIpples are? Looked awful.perhaps it was a dream

TitsalinaBumsquat · 27/05/2018 20:34

Oh, picture didn’t post
