It just doesn't sit right with me to look at how women's clothing has been policed by men for centuries and then see women themselves criticizing how much skin another woman decides to show
But frequently they aren't 'deciding,' although you'll never read that in any interviews. They will be 'empowered in their own sexuality,' naturally.
I find it incredible that no matter what the arguments are, how much we tell ourselves that 'we're just being sexy for us,' this semi-mythical 'empowerment' etc. etc. etc., it's STILL just women who aren't wearing many clothes. A few decades back, it was just about being sexy/attractive/whatever. Right now, it's because 'it's empowering.' It's always the same though. Women without clothes.
This latest rebrand of Man's Right to Watch Half Naked Women is horrible. It's the same inequality dressed up with phrases like 'feminism' and 'empowerment.'
Yes, there are the odd exceptions with a few stripped-to-the-waist men, but it's disingenuous to pretend that there is any equality on this issue whatsoever.
It remains vital for women in certain jobs to be seen as sexually attractive in a way that is not imposed on men. It's so easy to say 'well, thats how it's always been,' as though we should never try to change it.
Actually, this: Male gaze
Women are only worth something if they're sexy
Patriarchy
sums it up better than my attempt.
