To be fed up of female pop stars always performing in pants/leotards?

Ok I know a woman can wear whatever she wants, but why does it seem mandatory for female artists to wear nothing but pants/variations thereof on their bottom half?! Confused

I thought this when I was watching a Little Mix video at the salon yesterday. They always cavort in next to nothing.

Then I realised it was their choice and they were probably doing it for sales purposes...just like other women who use their bodies like strippergrams and lap dancers ....yet MN insist they're being exploited.

They choose to do it for the money in all those situations.

bbcessex · 27/05/2018 21:36

Does anybody working in the corporate world feel the need to go to work in their knickers & thigh highs to get attention /validated?

bbcessex · 27/05/2018 21:37

Sandy - it’s deeper than that.. it’s not a ‘choice’ based on an equal playing field.. it’s a choice based on expectation..

You’re being ironic, yes???

Oh x-post with Smile

Etino · 27/05/2018 21:42

And the men:
Performers are by definition objectified.

TacoLover · 27/05/2018 21:43

Free Mantle as you've said, sex sells and they seem pretty happy with their multiple houses and footballer boyfriends. Wearing next to nothing seems to be working out for them.

Choosegopse · 27/05/2018 21:45

Because most of their appeal is to look sexy! Nothing to do with their music.

TacoLover · 27/05/2018 21:47

Bbcessex the boys in the video are literally boys, one of them is only 16 I'm pretty sure. Little Mix are around 26 and are a lot older. Obviously young girls in the industry are sexualized wrongly but if I remember correctly Little Mix didn't start wearing more provocative clothing until they turned at least 22.

Oh well, that's alright then. As long as they're making money and they've got a 'footballer boyfriend.'

Just how low can we set this bar again?

VogueVVague · 27/05/2018 21:52

If its about dancing, begs thw question why male singers dont dance, or if they do, why they dont wear leotards

workshyfop · 27/05/2018 21:53

It’s all gussets these days I don’t want to look at someone’s gusset. And they’re not all that sexy anyway.

bbcessex · 27/05/2018 21:54

Taco - ‘boys’ are aged 18 to 22 (just googled, I didn’t know that off top of my head, honest!)

Either way - you can bet if they were 25 they would still be clothed.

I don’t know how anyone can’t understand - women in the public eye are (almost) always judged on their appearance, and in the pop music world, (almost) always presenting a soft porn visual image

Sevendown · 27/05/2018 21:57

It’s the outcome of the pornification of society.

I hate it and don’t want my dd growing up with thisz

DepressedAspie · 27/05/2018 21:59
Grin
TeachesOfPeaches · 27/05/2018 22:01

How funny, I mentioned this to my mum earlier. Since Lady Gaga every female pop star seems to wear nothing but a very highly cut leotard and heels. Looks awful.

SoupDragon · 27/05/2018 22:04

Florence has been prancing about in a full length floaty dress.

But generally it is just pants for female singers.

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 27/05/2018 22:07

Ah come on, it's freedom of choice!

Their freedom to choose to wear whatever they want.

As long as what they want to wear is to skimpy clothes and high heels.

As long as what they want is (coincidentally) in line with the male gaze #femaleempowerment.

And let's face it, men are visual creatures and women need clever / funny men to provide for their children so men can rock up in t-shirt and jeans next to a semi-naked woman because evolution. That's why L'Oreal for Apes was invented circa 4 million years ago.

Some animals are just more equal than others

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 27/05/2018 22:14

Not keen on the Pink song tbh. I know its heart is in the right place, but I don't think we should slate or look down on girls / women who go along with the narrative. They're just buying the lie that has been aggressively sold to them and besides it's not necessarily logical to assume that beauty and intellect are mutually exclusive.

ButNotTonight · 27/05/2018 22:15

Ok, I get that sex sells - but when your audience is pre-teens then who are they selling it to exactly?

DepressedAspie · 27/05/2018 22:18

You can be attractive, but still retain some integrity by not following the same boring narrative though. It is getting dull and predictable. Once you’ve seen one ass, you’ve seen ‘em all. What about the music? It’s utter drivel. Change the record. Literally.

tygr · 27/05/2018 22:30

Don't bring gymnastics into it. Gymnastics is really pervy. I was a reasonably high level gymnast (not international) and my coach ended up in prison for sexual offences. I used to wear shorts and a t-shirt rather than a leotard and he told me off numerous times. I was much more comfortable dressed like that.

starzig · 27/05/2018 23:40

What is wrong with a woman wanting to look sexy without someone seeing it as them being a victim of objectification. I would rather wear trackies bums but quite happy for anyone else to wear what they want.
