To Not Understand How There Can Be a Men-Only Event

How can this happen? Imagine if there was a Whites-only event, or an Able-Bodied-only event, there would be outrage.

Why is it OK to have men-only social events?

They have female only events though ....

There are many women only events, clubs and classes. We have women only swim and classes at the gym, a women only book club in the village, a womens running club...

Are the waiting staff subjected to sexual assault at women only events? They could be? This sort of elitist party obviously promotes entitled behaviour.

Of course there should be men-only events, just as there should be (and are) women-only events.

Women-only events or spaces are usually conceived with the aim of empowering women, giving them space to speak, or allowing them to feel safe.

This is not that. This is a space for holding onto power, groping women, bidding for plastic surgery for your wife.

I have no issue with men only events. I do however have a problem with any event that basically uses any other demographic for their gratification.

So if this was a women only even where young men were paraded, groped and the numerous other things alleged at this event I'd be just as angry.

The attendees and those being exploited is interchangeable. In whatever guise it's unacceptable.

I agree it is a false equivalence between women only events and men only events. However I would have less of an issue with this if it was a benign and well intentioned charity event rather than an excuse to treat female waitresses like pieces of meat without any women guests there to spoil the fun.

I don’t think women’s only sport clubs or events are relevant, there are sensible, logical reasons for that. I mean social events. I don’t see why segregation is necessary.

People's poor behaviour cannot be excused, what sex they are is irrelevant. I'm fairly sure Rainbows don't behave like this.

There are PLENTY of women only "Butler in the Buff" and male stripper/entertainer parties -I think anything like that is grim and exploitative if it is done for any gender.
This party was obviously gross, but let's not pretend it doesn't happen the other way round too. Some old work colleagues went to a male entertainer night and were proud to announce they had groped and jumped all over not only the "entertainment" but the bar staff too -including sticking their hands down underwear. Absolutely disgusting. I agree this party was awful, but you can't say no men only events and then have women only events.

I cannot imagine a gathering of rich, famous, powerful women, compered by a mainstream female comedian, where much younger men are told to dress in scanty clothing and matching underwear, signing a disclaimer to cover the event of them being groped or having a woman expose her genitals to them. Maybe that makes me a terrible old feminazi, but I can't/

Exactly Namechange years ago I went to a ladies night thing with a stripper it was really cringey and never again but it works both ways .

Actually - there used to be loads of women only events, these have now been infilitrated by transgender women who promote their own agenda - so we don't have women only events any more (totally off topic)

Loads and loads of women commented along the lines of 'phoarrrrr' and 'let me get my hands on his axe' (Axe over the shoulder Ofc ) It was cringy and if it hadn't been my neighbour (who is lovely normally) I'd have let rip. It's so disgusting for either sex to be dribbled and lusted over.

As previous posters have said, there are plenty of women only events. Yoga, Pilates, Women's Institute to name a few that meet in our village hall.

I think the problem with this event is much much more than men only it sounds like it was filled with rich entitled sleazy feckers all wrapped in a "it is for the kids" bow . I have been to "ladies nights" disabled women events there is no issue with X only events the problem lies with the organisers of we provide young women for your entertainment events.

Men only events are fine. Shit men only events are not.

Unfortunately not in my limited experience. Transmen - ie women who now self identify as men, do not seem to be as determined to shout from the rooftops about their own agenda. They are not turning up to mens meetings demanding that they be taken more seriously than men, and they don't seem to engage in the same hostility against men as transwomen appear to have against us (women who are born women and dont have penises).

and you don't sound stupid e1y1. I really have only become aware of this really recently and have been researching, and it is breaking my heart a little. Especially for my daugher who is 19 and is bisexual.
