How much does the rent vary all over the country?

Miaoriely2017 · 19/07/2017 08:35

only answer if your comfortable but what rent is paid in different areas of the country?
Reading through threads and it's a bit of a eye opener.
I have a 2 bed in north east (social housing) and pay £330 a month
My boyfriend was talking about eventually moving further south (he works as a haulage driver and more work ) how much would social or private housing be down south?

1 (very small) bed flat, ex council block, communal garden.

£1100 a month in London zone 3.

caffeinestream · 19/07/2017 08:39

A friend rents here - 2 bed terrace with a garden goes for £300 a month. North west coast.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 19/07/2017 08:41

2 bed terrace, South East, 1295 pcm. It could be cheaper further out but transport would be expensive for us.

Biggreygoose · 19/07/2017 08:41

Large 2 bed flat in South West on somerset/devon border, private rent- just under £600

Tiny 1 bed maisonette in Reading area, private rent - just over £700

There is a huge variation in the south, unsurprisingly to nearer London the more expensive it tends to be.

If you are more specific with the areas you are looking at it would be easier to help.

Lovewatchingrainfall · 19/07/2017 08:42

South Wales (close to English border) 2 bed just under £650 a month

Velvetbee · 19/07/2017 08:43

Cathedral town Hampshire. The 2 bed terraced houses next to me go for £1200 a month, private rentals.

LaurieFairyCake · 19/07/2017 08:44

£1700 for a damp 2 bed with very old fittings and mould in the bathroom

Needed to earn 37 times the monthly rent to be 'allowed' to rent it - so £54000

London (zone 3)

roselondoner · 19/07/2017 08:44

I live in London but heavily subsidised so only pay £250 pcm

Friends in London pay between 700-900 each and they share with others

Parents in Devon pay 800 pcm

alltouchedout · 19/07/2017 08:46

If you can find a private landlord you can get a 2 bed round here for between 500 and 600. If you have to go via an agency, for some reason the rents are noticably higher, also with fees to pay of course.

Leatherboundanddown · 19/07/2017 08:47

2 bed garden flat (Victorian conversion) 1 reception room, no parking. £700 pcm, Leicester.

thegoodnameshadgone · 19/07/2017 08:48

Northwest three bed terraced with back garden 400

FlandersRocks · 19/07/2017 08:49

We don't rent so this is my sisters:

4 bed very large semi, huge gardens, two receptions plus conservatory - £950 pcm. On the edge of the Gower, S Wales.

FlandersRocks · 19/07/2017 08:49

London prices blow my mind, still.

Charming1234 · 19/07/2017 08:53

I dont rent we own but I know what our flat rents for. 2 bed 1 bath ground floor around 750 per month in Portsmouth.

SaucyJack · 19/07/2017 08:54

Are you in a desirable bit of the North East?

You could always try a mutual exchange. Unlikely, depending on the distance but you never know- you might get lucky with someone fancying a fresh start.

EwanWhosearmy · 19/07/2017 08:55

My adult DC pay £875 pm for a small 3 bed terrace in Bristol.

BarbaraofSeville · 19/07/2017 08:57

Define 'down south' and 'the north east'. Depending on how far north you are, you might not have to go too far down south to get more work as I would have thought that there would be a decent amount of work as a haulage driver available if you live near M62/M1 and/or east or west coast ports.

A 2 bed private rent in Leeds would probably cost around £500 pm in an average area.

Examples of social housing:

www.leedshomes.org.uk/default.aspx?pageIdentifier=propertyDetails&propertyRef=97825

www.leedshomes.org.uk/default.aspx?pageIdentifier=propertyDetails&propertyRef=97805

The first one is a small back to back in a not great area, and is about £300 pm, the second is on a new build estate where a proportion is social housing, on the edge of a nice enough town with good motorway access that is inexplicably unpopular on here, and is just over £400 pm.

You have to bid for social housing and I think highest priority wins. I don't know how long it takes but it will depend on how flexible you are with area. DNiece didn't get one with a few months of trying as a homeless single parent but I think she had unrealistic expectations about the type of property and area available.

DesignedForLife · 19/07/2017 08:59

South Wales £500 p/m for average 3 bed semi detached with small garden.

Jenala · 19/07/2017 09:00

We have a 3 bed semi detached 70s house. Nicely finished with big garden. But we rent off a friend so get it cheaper £680pcm. I think out landlord could easily get £750pcm for it. It's on the edge of a dodgy estate on a busy road which makes it cheaper. Move the house 2 or 3 miles and he could rent it for £900pcm

Shitty two up two down terraces without double glazing and postage stamp gardens in the nice area of town are a good £750-800pcm. East anglia.

Iamliftzilla · 19/07/2017 09:00

Cathedral town, Hampshire, 3 bed tiny terrace for £1595
Waves to velvetbee I suspect we are neighbours

silkpyjamasallday · 19/07/2017 09:02

We live in the midlands now, we moved out of our one bed flat (top half of a Victorian terrace) in Brixton that was £1250 per month expecting to find similar in our hometown but cheaper and were disappointed to find that the prices are pretty much the same here as zone 2 in London. We do live in a commuter town though so I would imagine that explains it somewhat. Thankfully my parents bought a house for us when we moved back or we wouldn't have been able to afford to rent much more than a room in a share house as DPs job here is half the salary he had in London.

Kittysparks1 · 19/07/2017 09:02

I pay £650 private landlord for a 1 bedroom house in Southampton and this is Cheap. No central heating, the windows don't work, damp issues throughout the house. But they let me have my dog here and that's the priority. Once my baby comes we will look for a 2 bedroom and we are looking at around 800-900 a month for that.
The banks won't give me a mortgage despite the fact I've been paying someone else's mortgage for 4 years. So frustrating!

hazeydays14 · 19/07/2017 09:03

Bristol outskirts (40min to centre) - 1 bed house, drive and garden £700pcm.

Bristol centre - very small 1 bed flat, no parking (not even on the streets nearby), no outdoor space £870pcm.

Moving to South Wales soon, looking for a 2 bed house and they are approx. £490-£550 in the town I'm looking at with good links to Cardiff for work.

It varies quite a lot across the country before you take into consideration London prices which are madness to me!

Frouby · 19/07/2017 09:05

Nice 3 bed mid town house. New build eco home in the SH bit of a naice estate in south yorkshire for £103 per week. That is social housing tho. Council it would be about £90 per week.

London prices make my brain bleed.

StinkyMcgrinky · 19/07/2017 09:06

Wakefield area, commuter band for Leeds. 3 bed, two garden in an OK area £595 pcm.
