only answer if your comfortable but what rent is paid in different areas of the country?
Reading through threads and it's a bit of a eye opener.
I have a 2 bed in north east (social housing) and pay £330 a month
My boyfriend was talking about eventually moving further south (he works as a haulage driver and more work ) how much would social or private housing be down south?

Two years ago I was a landlord in London due to unexpected move. My flat was a 2 bed in zone 2, SE London. Rented it for £1100 pcm. Rented a 3 bed in the West End of Glasgow for £620 pcm.

Sold London flat and bought up here so my knowledge may now be out of date.

Hertfordshire, 3 bed semi with gardem, £2000 pcm

3 bed end terrace house in Gosport Hampshire (in between Portsmouth and Southampton) £695 pcm.
However, I know that other people near us do pay up to about £900 for 3 bed properties!

How do people find it in touristy areas renting? I know it's a completely different market so different types of landlord but when you can rent a holiday let out for a month for the same income as a years long term let. Does it make it more tricky to find secure homes?

In my experience yes. I've lived in very touristy cities and rural areas and in both there's a massive lack of 1 & 2 bed accommodation because so many people are renting out as holiday homes now. If you wander round Edinburgh, Bath, Brighton, the Lake District etc you'll see lots of little key safes next to doors. They're pretty much all holiday flats. The returns on them could be massive - my old rental in Edinburgh was £800/month for a two bed
but my neighbour told me he was getting that per week during the Festival and over Xmas & New Year - and no agency fees etc.

I still love at home because in this pocket of Oxon to rent a bedsit or studio flat in the worst part of town is £600-£700. I simply can't afford it.

Kent, £525 for a 3 bed social housing. Private rent for a similar 3 bed in same area is £975.

Whiskeywithwater · 19/07/2017 18:32

We rented in Essex a couple of years ago. 3 bed semi with a reasonable size garden was £1,300 a month. Think rental rates are similar, if slightly higher now
