only answer if your comfortable but what rent is paid in different areas of the country?
Reading through threads and it's a bit of a eye opener.
I have a 2 bed in north east (social housing) and pay £330 a month
My boyfriend was talking about eventually moving further south (he works as a haulage driver and more work ) how much would social or private housing be down south?

We rented a 1 bed flat in Bristol city centre 10 years ago. That was £650 a month. South Liverpool 8 years ago was £600 for a 4 bed terrace (negotiated down).

We are still in the Merseyside areas but are home owners own now. But a check on Rightmove indicates that it varies hugely based on postcode. Huge difference in price for houses just minutes apart. Between 375-900 pcm for 3 bedroomed houses.

3 bed ex council semi in desirable area with excellent school catchment in Nottingham -£750 per month. We got lucky with this one as other semis although not council are now fetching £850 per month here. We would love to move to a 4 bed as we have 3 dc between us and I works from home half the week so a home office would be perfect but we would be looking at over £1000 per month and we couldn't afford that!

My Dad, in a naice South Warks town, pays £950 pcm for a 2 bed, 2 reception semi with a drive that fits 2 cars & reasonable size front & back garden. There's no central heating though. It was less than £100 pcm when he moved in 30 odd years ago.

I paid £1350 a month for a tiny 1 bedroom flat in South London. It was so small we had to keep our clothes in the communal hallway. I now pay £500 a month for a large 2 bedroom terraced house with a bit of outdoor space in Belfast. And that includes our water bill!

peachgreen · 19/07/2017 14:19

Oh and although we took a pay cut to move here it wasn't massive - DH £2k a year, me £6k a year (but I also took a step backwards deliberately). Living costs are cheaper, too, apart from public transport and household appliances/furniture.

Wellthengreat · 19/07/2017 14:21

North east Scotland.
£700 per month for a very very tiny one bedroom flat with galley kitchen.
Managed to get very lucky and get a one bedroom thats a little bigger for £600 but we moved during a dip, and seems prices are more like the £700 figure

clairewilliams999 · 19/07/2017 14:25

Large 6 bed in Surrey, £12,750 a month

lamado · 19/07/2017 14:26

North London - 2 bed flat next door to me (nice building, shared garden, catchment for outstanding primary) rents for £1900 per month. House round here rent for £4K+ a month.

FromAtoBin21months · 19/07/2017 14:27

Norwich - £600 a month for a two and a half bedroom terraced.

SlothMama · 19/07/2017 14:29

My partner rents a bedroom with an en-suite £700 in London zone 2, so glad I live up North!

MrJohnsonAteMyCustard · 19/07/2017 14:30

£98 per week (so just under £400 per month) for a two bedroom high rise flat. Housing association.

MrsClegane · 19/07/2017 14:32

just outside Bradford...£450 a month for a small 2 bed terrace house, no garden, terrible parking. seems to be about average around here.

Tofutti · 19/07/2017 14:36

Rented 1 bed flat in zone 4 London for £1050. It was furnished but didn't include a microwave, kettle or toaster.

Now pay £1700 mortgage on a 3 bed small new build terrace in zone 4.

madcapcat · 19/07/2017 14:40

Council 2 bed flats in Edinburgh (in not very nice area) go for about £400-£450. Private 2 bed flats in similar area are around the £700 - 800 mark but most of the private market is between £800 and £1500 a month for a 2 bed flat. Houses or anything with a private garden would be more.

BarbarianMum · 19/07/2017 14:42

Sheffield. 2 bed flat w garage within 10 min walk of city centre. £450

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 19/07/2017 14:43

Private Rent. Small 2 bedroom, village in North Essex. £675 a month.

ifeellikechickentonight · 19/07/2017 14:48

Hertfordshire. In this bit of Herts, a one bed flat 700 (would be a shit one for that price) to 1200-1400 for a nice one near train station. Our old three bed mid terrace was bought by buy to let landlords who rent it out for 1200 but it's quite small and over a mile from the train station and town centre

Vagndidit · 19/07/2017 14:48

2bd terraces in the nice bit of Norwich start around the low £700s. Student housing is a bit of a different market altogether.

AnnaBe · 19/07/2017 14:52

£ 2200 plus bills and council tax.
London, zone 2, old 2 bed semi with little garden

Thank God we just bought a house and won't need to rent anymore!

AhhhhThatsBass · 19/07/2017 14:53

I have in the fortunate position of having two properties that I let out in SW London and even I am mortified at the rent we charge, one is a 1 bed flat which is £1515 per month and the other is a bog standard Victorian terrace which we rent for £4,333. I honestly don't know how anyone can afford to rent in London. The irony is that I couldn't afford to rent my rental house from my salary alone (excluding DHs salary). Which is madness.
