How much does the rent vary all over the country?

Miaoriely2017 · 19/07/2017 08:35

only answer if your comfortable but what rent is paid in different areas of the country?
Reading through threads and it's a bit of a eye opener.
I have a 2 bed in north east (social housing) and pay £330 a month
My boyfriend was talking about eventually moving further south (he works as a haulage driver and more work ) how much would social or private housing be down south?

borders- 3 bed terrace £500. Typically the same houses are around 725-750 but our landlords either very nice or very daft

Lana1234 · 19/07/2017 09:56

I pay £390 pcm for a fair sized 2 bedroom flat in Liverpool

BurgundyCloak · 19/07/2017 09:56

Large 4 bed terrace with garden in a nice part of Sheffield £595.

Somerset on the edge of Bath and Bristol, £775 for a 1 bed flat. I couldn't afford to live in either city on my own.

This thread is really interesting, and explains why a lot of people couldn't get their heads round why a nurse on £21.5k needed to access a food bank. I hope next time people see a story like that, they remember this thread and the variations, rather than jumping to conclusions about her spending as some posters did.

Staffordshire moorlands here, a 3 bed semi house with garden and driveway for around £550pcm. Nearby (10 miles away) in very expensive and middle class area of Lichfield you will get an identical house in style and size but for £800+ pcm

ElephantsCanFly · 19/07/2017 10:17

Lovely spacious 3 bed semi with front garden/garage/driveway for 2 cars & decent sized back garden for £700 nr Shropshire/Welsh border.

Studio flat, York city centre, £605. No parking available, other than street because its the city centre.

A 5 bedroom semi detached house, out of the city centre, but a quick bus ride into the city, in one of the best neighbourhood in York- £1750 pcm. Ample parking, near good schools, large garden.

2 bed flat, walking distance to city centre, parking. £725

3 bedroom house, walking distance to city centre, no parking, one bathroom, £950 pcm

We don't rent, we own, so I was a bit surprised at the rents. Our 3 bedroom townhouse, walking distance to the city centre, with parking in our integrated garage, has a mortgage of £618 a month. Very good, and quiet neighbourhood as well. However, we had a large deposit. If we had a small one, our mortgage would have been £1300 a month.

m4rdybum · 19/07/2017 10:19

We currently live in a one bed, ground floor flat - that's £375 a month, in Cheshire.

In my hometown in North Lincolnshire, you can rent a 2 bed terraced house for £110 a month.

Dowser · 19/07/2017 10:19

3 bed semi in lovely area, 2 reception rooms, large kitchen. Two double bedrooms upstairs with 3 rd smaller bedroom . Garage, largish garden . Access to good school. £600 per month

cakesandphotos · 19/07/2017 10:19

When we rented privately we paid £460 for a two bed farm cottage with lovely views and a drive. In the north east. No way I would want to move down south!

Dowser · 19/07/2017 10:19

North east, sorry forgot that

aweewhilelonger · 19/07/2017 10:20

We rent out in Edinburgh centre: it's around £600 pcm for a nice one-bed flat.

babybubblescomingsoon · 19/07/2017 10:20

London zone 3. Double bedroom - £790pcm.

Crazy crazy prices. I hate living in London.

PinotAndPlaydough · 19/07/2017 10:21

2 bed ex council flat in London zone 5, communal garden on a quiet suburban road. Very naice area that is very popular because of excellent transport links into town and good schools.

We pay £1,200 a month and I would consider that a bargain for where we are.

Amd724 · 19/07/2017 10:23

BTW, if we rented out our house, we could get about £1600 a month for it. Its a registered HMO and we live three blocks from York St John. A student would pay £400 pcm for each room. It'd be a four bed (no more living room) 3 bath house. As well, we're putting an extension on the back, which will give another bedroom, possibly pushing up the rent even further. Its insane. I was a student in York on the other side of town, and students were paying £80 pw for a room, with four other people living with them. The landlord was taking in £400 a week, £1600 a month for a terraced 4 bedroom house, with someone taking the living room. His mortgage was nowhere near that expensive.

museypants · 19/07/2017 10:23

2 bed terrace in an in-demand bit of our part of Yorkshire - £450pcm. You could get the same for £395 in other parts of our town but we need to be here for work.

spankhurst · 19/07/2017 10:28

Agreed , JustKeep. The variation in price is absolutely vast, and wages vary much, much less, if at all in many cases.

North Oxfordshire, 3 bed semis with parking and garden, about £1100.

Branleuse · 19/07/2017 10:31

Victorian 4 bedroom terrace with garden in north Essex, an hour from London lpool st, privately rented. 950 a month

valeriarrgh · 19/07/2017 10:31

Northwest, smack dab between Manchester and Liverpool , small 2 bed semi, front and back gardens, drive, nice area, £575 a month.

PixieMiss · 19/07/2017 10:32

Wakefield area, close to Leeds. waves to Stinky

3 bed semi, driveway, good sized backyard in a nice area is £550.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 19/07/2017 10:36

It's frustrating. The money DP and I would save on rent if we did move out of London (a two bed flat with a kitchen that wasn't part of the living area would be a total luxury compared to the current place!) would instantly be swallowed up by the season tickets we'd need to commute in by train.

I hate it that we are so tied to London but that's the reality for both our jobs.

myusernameisnotmyusername · 19/07/2017 10:39

Well I used to live in south east London where it was 1250 for a two bed flat and now live in Birmingham where it's 695 for a two bed end of terrace house.

Oldraver · 19/07/2017 10:43

I have family in the NE..They are paying roughly £400-450 a month in private rented. Down here it would be £800 plus.

There is no social housing unless you have been on the list for 10 years plus, though I would think you may be able to exchange

DrinkMilkAndKickAss · 19/07/2017 10:49

3 bed cottage in naice N. Yorks village for £800 with a comparable house in the nearest town listed for £550. They're the only three beds listed in our area on rightmove so a lack of rental properties is a bigger issue round here.
