AIBU or does a manager leaving a 32 week pregnant woman on her own in London smack of ignorance?!

So I'm 32 weeks pregnant and had to work an event in London this week-hours of standing and also tracking across London travelling. We went on a meal afterwards and obviously being tired I wanted to go back to the hotel afterwards. My manager got in a taxi and said "you know where you're going then" and shut the door....I nearly burst into tears. Firstly I didn't and secondly why should I be left like that because he wants to go drinking?? Am I being unreasonable?

A bit ! He should have been kinder . And he wasn't so there you go and now you know . It's not unreasonable to expect a bit of cosseting when pregnant is it ?

Yes. Pregnant women manage to get taxis and the tube and even walk in London every day actually.

It would certainly have been polite for him to give you the first taxi but I don't think that you bring pregnant has anything to do with whether he goes drinking or not.

He's your boss not your DP.

I would expect an adult to be able to navigate their way back to a hotel, pregnant or not

I don't really understand the problem... You're an adult aren't you? Just get yourself back to the hotel. What were you expecting him to do for you? Is there anything else going on here?

You don't leave anyone in a strange unfamiliar place, whether. They're pregnant or not. If that were me I'd have put you in a taxi and made sure the taxi driver knew where he was taking you and asked you to text me. When you'd arrived at the hotel.
Where are you now. Have you managed to get back to the hotel, yet

Not sure on the unreasonable bit but I'm sure as an adult you're more than capable of getting yourself a taxi, doesn't matter if you know where your hotel is-fairly certain a London cabbie would.
Not really your managers job to babysit you, he wasn't the most considerate though.

I'm surprised you didn't know where you were staying and that it hadn't occurred to you to ask before then. He was a bit rude not to offer you the first taxi, but sounds like you expected him to accompany you and hold your hand

Um, I think you are being a bit unreasonable, yes. If you're ok to still be working I'd think you're ok to get yourself across London in a taxi/by tube. Is this something you'd find difficult if you weren't pregnant?

If I was your manager I'd have put you in a taxi first (to be honest, I'd have done this regardless of you being pregnant as if have a duty of care to you as an employee) and waved you off. What would you like him to have done?

I don't see what the problem is, you got a taxi to go back to the hotel and he carried on. Did you expect him to go with you?

Um....you know that pregnant women live and work in London and get around by themselves all the time? You're pregnant and have a job so I'm assuming you're an adult?

I'm sorry, I don't really see the issue. Do you think you'd normally be upset by this, or might your hormones be acting up?

Er, what were you expecting him to do? Escort you back, in case, I don't know, you had an attack of the vapours? Stayed in?

YAB fairly U. You're a grown woman, it's your responsibility to know where your hotel is. He's your colleague not your partner.

as an adult I'm sure you don't need seeing home from a taxi, and as an adult I assume you knew the name of your hotel and could tell the driver what it was. Also presumably work was over so you don't need to keep each other company beyond then.

don't see the issue or why being pregnant made any difference.

Sounds like he was a bit brusque but only from an assumption that as an adult professional you'd probably be able to handle it. You're perhaps feeling sensitive about it thanks to all those lovely pregnancy hormones and the fact you're knackered after what sounds like a hard couple of days. I wouldn't read much into it! I hope you got back okay. To be honest I'd have been annoyed at someone cosseting me but I like to appear independent at all times (I insisted on working events, long hours and heavy lifting late into pregnancy to my manager's annoyance Grin).

If I had been the manager, would have made sure the mum to be was sorted out first.
