AIBU or does a manager leaving a 32 week pregnant woman on her own in London smack of ignorance?!

So I'm 32 weeks pregnant and had to work an event in London this week-hours of standing and also tracking across London travelling. We went on a meal afterwards and obviously being tired I wanted to go back to the hotel afterwards. My manager got in a taxi and said "you know where you're going then" and shut the door....I nearly burst into tears. Firstly I didn't and secondly why should I be left like that because he wants to go drinking?? Am I being unreasonable?

I used to manage 60 people. We had some corking parties and I am afraid that I never put anyone into a taxi. And for that matter when I was pregnant no one put me in one either, let alone escorted me to a hotel.

I asked dh if he looked after the laydees at his Christmas party this week. He looked a bit bemused. He did, however, have to escort his (male) boss back to his hotel and put him to bed Grin

DeepanKrispanEven · 20/12/2016 18:33

I agree Ferris. Its just basic manners and decency to make sure someone is safe and knows where they're going.

But why would you assume that they don't know where they are going? If my manager came up to me after a work event and asked if I knew where I was staying, I would either think she'd gone mad or be seriously offended.

Ferrisday · 20/12/2016 22:00

Ok
For those saying it's crazy that a manager needs to look after his 60 staff or however many, that is not this situation, so it's irrelevant. It was the OP and her manager at the end of the evening.
Deepan- love this name- it's not a normal night out. OP is away from home in London in a hotel
I honestly don't care that it's a manager, or that she's pregnant or that she's forgotten the name of the hotel or felt vulnerable and alone in a city that she didn't know that well.
If it's you and one other person left at the end of the night you check that the other person is ok getting home.

MrsNuckyThompson · 20/12/2016 22:06

Good lord. You're pregnant, not mentally deficient.

Bloody hell the job description just grows and grows .. Not sure I want to be a manager any more

Ferrisday · 21/12/2016 10:41

You're right Francis, it might not have been late night,There's a small possibility that it could have still been light too.
But I think in all probability in was dark

YelloDraw · 21/12/2016 10:47

Have you ever been to a city? London streets are hardly 'dark'! Loving the idea of all these poor terrified people on the dark streets of London at 4.30.

ColaSpangles · 21/12/2016 10:49

Oh dear op you've been frightened away! I think accept you're BU and forget it. Hope pregnancy continues well.

I can see why she is not happy he jumped in the first cab and left her their. Surely any decent person would give the first cab that came along to a pregnant woman. He or she couldn't wait to get to the pub. She should have planned her journey befor she got there.

Ferrisday · 21/12/2016 20:31

Ffs
It's like arguing with children.

If you can't for one second feel an ounce of sympathy, let alone empathy for a tired, pregnant, hormonal woman, lost and left alone in a city that she didn't know very well, then well done you! I'm so happy for your remarkable independence in the face of adversity.
Fwiw- I've lived and worked in London for all of my adult years. I've been the independent female pregnant manager(!) I've managed NY, Paris, HK, Sydney and yet I can see how this woman could have felt a little bit vulnerable that her manager didn't check that she knew where she was going.
Shame on all if you who can't see it.

I'm leaving now before I lose all faith in humanity.

GinIsIn · 21/12/2016 21:13

She was NOT lost, she hadn't bothered to check the details of her hotel. That is not the same thing! I currently am a tired, emotional, hormonal pregnant woman, and that's precisely why I feel so strongly that the OP is BU - it's not an excuse to just check out of being a responsible human being! Hmm

Ferrisday · 21/12/2016 21:15

She didn't know where she was or where she was going- I'd call that lost

LockedOutOfMN · 21/12/2016 21:23

Haven't read the whole thread.

OP, why didn't you know where you were going after the meal?

"If it's you and one other person left at the end of the night you check that the other person is ok getting home."

By that logic, OP should have also checked her manager was OK getting home.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 22/12/2016 08:26

Shame on all if you who can't see it.

Shock horror, people have a different view to you.

Giselaw · 22/12/2016 08:30

"If it's you and one other person left at the end of the night you check that the other person is ok getting home."

And if you see a person struggling in water, you go check on them and make sure they're not drowing.

Both scenarios have nothing to do with the OP. In the case discussed, two coworkers finished a meal. One headed to a night out and the other headed to a hotel.

So not the end of a night, no drugs or alcohol consumed.

Beebeeeight · 22/12/2016 08:52

I take it the op didn't come back??

msrisotto · 22/12/2016 09:58

Why didn't you know where you were staying? Hadn't you checked your baggage in etc?
