To not get slippers?

user1476140278 · 14/10/2016 09:24

I just don't understand the need for slippers. I know people get cold feet...I do...so I wear socks.

If I need to go outside I put on shoes or flip flops...I wouldn't go outside in slippers and then wear them on the carpets...

My friend is insistent her children wear slippers indoors all the time.

She says they might slip over on the floor...mine never slipped! We, like her have hard floors...if their feet are all day in shoes and slippers, when do they get a chance to...I don't know...be free!?

I've slipped down the stairs twice when I've been wearing just socks, so wear slippers as they have more grip than socks.

GrumpyOldBag · 16/10/2016 17:40

I love my Mahabis.

mahabis.com

Stone floors throughout downstairs, plus a few sisal rugs, which are cold & hard & just socks definitely not comfy enough.

blitheringbuzzards1234 · 16/10/2016 17:55

I much prefer slippers to bare feet or socks, grippy or otherwise. They're just cosier, that's all. I put shoes on for outdoors most of the time and I take slippers with me if I visit a friend with a 'no shoes' policy.

Chippednailvarnishing · 16/10/2016 17:56

Wood floors + no slippers = cramp

I have fuggs, the DC's have slipper socks and DH has some sort of macho slipper things.

Xmasbaby11 · 16/10/2016 17:57

I love slippers. I have plantar fasciitis which means walking on hard floors without shoes or similar on really hurts. Plus socks don't warm my feet enough in the winter.

I wouldn't go outside in my slippers though. That's what shoes are for.

Thingvellir · 16/10/2016 17:58

I am lusting after the mahabis - have been for about a year, I might put them on my Xmas list. Currently I wear some old uggs as slippers, but go barefoot during summer, slippers are a winter thing.

PhedreNoDelaunay · 16/10/2016 18:03

I have plantar fasciitis and Morton's neuroma soeven in summer I need the support of something on my feet. Usually my Birkenstocks. In winter I get such cold feet that I wear thermal socks and my sheepskin fake Ugg boots.

InfiniteCurve · 16/10/2016 18:06

I wear slippers in the winter and flip flops in the summer - we have hard floors and I hate walking in/on wet patches or stray dropped peas in the kitchen!
DH wears slippers all year round, neither of the DCs ever do - they had slippers when they were little but would never wear them!
DS won't even wear socks though he does sometimes moan that his feet are cold...
DD favours fluffy socks.

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 16/10/2016 18:07

Just looked at the mahabis - £80 for slippers that you can't wash? That would worry me. I wear slippers barefoot, and eventually, they start to smell and I chuck them and buy new ones. That worked fine for the £8 ones from BHS, but now that those aren't available, I'm looking for new ones... but that seems a little much. They say that you'll never need another pair, but if you're like me and wear them after showers, etc, with wet feet, surely you do need new ones after about a year?

Marymoosmum14 · 16/10/2016 18:11

I love my slippers, but I don't really see the point in summer when it is warm.

formerbabe · 16/10/2016 18:13

I'm always barefoot at home. Socks and/or slippers make me feel queasy...hate warm, sweaty feet...yuk

Benedikte2 · 16/10/2016 18:14

I did slip as a young child when I didn't put my slippers on as instructed. Fell on my tail bone and have had pain on and off all my life.
Also slippers are some protection if you drop something on your toes -- not much but better than nothing.

treaclesoda · 16/10/2016 18:14

I hate having bare feet. I don't like walking barefoot unless it's on a beach. It's slippers for me.

grannytomine · 16/10/2016 18:18

I never wear slippers and tend to wear open sandals with no socks for most of the year. My mother used to be mortified, she said people would think I was a tinker (which she felt was a terrible insult to the point that when my dad wanted to take a holiday in Ireland in a horse drawn caravan she wouldn't let us go as that was even more likely to lead people to think we were tinkers.)

As I grew up in an innercity slum that no tinker would want to live in I could never quite understand her worries.

I have very healthy feet, I think fresh air is good for feet.

cricketballs · 16/10/2016 18:28

there is no finer feeling when getting in from work than taking your shoes off and putting slippers on - means that I'm home, no going out and I can relax

hanr84 · 16/10/2016 18:29

Love love love slippers! I don't wear them in the summer but the rest of the year they are a personal necessity. I hate cold feet, and even more hate walking in the occasional wet on the kitchen or bathroom floor, thus meaning a sock change. Your choice obviously but I won't be parted ;-)

SunnySideForever · 16/10/2016 18:36

Oh I love the feeling of my bare feet on the soft carpet - much nicer than being restricted in slippers!

Hulababy · 16/10/2016 18:42

I never wear slippers, or socks, in the house. I don't really like socks much - have really dry feet on my feet and they feel uncomfortable against it. However, my feet are getting painful when cold (arthritis affecting them) so I may need to consider slippers. I'd father rather have slippers than socks on.

DH always wears slippers. Sometimes with socks too. He gets really cold feet. He has ones with a decent sole as he can wear them out fairly quickly others.

Hulababy · 16/10/2016 18:46

DH has the Mahabis slippers with detachable sole. Though he leaves the sole on all the time.

FurryLittleTwerp · 16/10/2016 18:52

I used to never wear slippers, till we rented a house with nasty carpets! As a student I used thick hiking socks in lieu of slippers in the winter.

Now I wear slippers but just in the kitchen & breakfast room, where we have ceramic tiles - very cold underfoot in the winter. In the summer they are still chilly & I wear flip-flops instead of proper slippers. I'll pop outside in them too.

In the rest of the house I have either bare feet or just socks.

goose1964 · 16/10/2016 18:58

I need slippers & socks to keep my feet warm, have been known to wear, socks, thermal socks & slippers and still have cold feet. You can buy them with hard soles for popping out to the garage

Purplebluebird · 16/10/2016 19:04

I wear normal socks + big fat wool socks on top, as per tradition where I'm from ^^ Wonderfully nice and cozy.

BolshierAryaStark · 16/10/2016 19:09

I love my slippers, so comfy. My last 2 pairs were from bedroom athletics, boot style fluffy ones, not cheap but they last ages.

wrigglingtoes · 16/10/2016 19:18

I have slight OCD about crumbs on the floor and can't bear the feeling of bits being on my feet, I'm also lazy and can't be arsed brushing/hoovering every 5 minutes, so I wear slippers to move about the house, but can't keep them on it my feet would be roasting!

TheNoodlesIncident · 16/10/2016 19:28

By the time it gets to December/January I'm in 2 pairs of socks AND big fluffy slippers. I have awful circulation (Raynaud's phenomenon) and need a million layers to keep my extremities warm.

Me too, except I would say from September depending on the temperature. Some summers are too chilly to just have socks. If your feet get hot and thus slippers not required, fab for you, but I can strip off slippers and socks layers and still have stone-cold feet, and often my joints or bones will hurt. I'd love to have good circulation, but it's not going to happen, is it? Downhill to the Giant Single Slipper With The Big Zip and the Slanket for me... Blush
