To not get slippers?

I just don't understand the need for slippers. I know people get cold feet...I do...so I wear socks.

If I need to go outside I put on shoes or flip flops...I wouldn't go outside in slippers and then wear them on the carpets...

My friend is insistent her children wear slippers indoors all the time.

She says they might slip over on the floor...mine never slipped! We, like her have hard floors...if their feet are all day in shoes and slippers, when do they get a chance to...I don't know...be free!?

I wear slippers indoors all the time. My children don't. They walk round on the hard floor, where the dogs live in socks, then when they get onto the carpet in the hallway they make dog hair footprints. Really annoys me. I have to vacuum at least twice a day. If they wore slippers they wouldn't make such big footprints as the hairs don't stick to hard soles like they do socks. 😡

Oh I love my slippers! I find my hard floors really cold most of the year and in the winter I wear the fleecy boot type - sheer bliss. Those slipper sock things aren't warm enough for me.

I never used to wear slippers and have hard floors.
Then I got plantar fasciitis...for two and a half years!
Now I always slippers (well sketchers go walks, as normal slippers probably don't give enough support and I find most of them too hot) at home.

Cor I flipping love slippers. It's a bit of a running joke how many slippers I get through in a year, I absolutely muller mine. I yank it's because I do so much walking round the house rather than sitting on the sofa though.
As someone has said they stop your feet getting bashed. My children drag chairs across the kitchen to join me at the worktop and the thought of having a chair leg squashed onto my toes goes right through me, slippers solve that problem.
And they keep my perpetually cold feet warm.

I'm in the pro slipper camp.

YY to slippers adding to the hygge! Has anyone mentioned Glerups yet? They are the best slippers I've had yet for cold feet, they are felted wool. Mine are grey but Dd has a cute tiny red pair which make her look like a pixie.
I have fairly awful circulation and they are fabulous. A bit spendy but worth it. I also have some sheepskin ones with proper soles for bin-putting-out etc.
We are a shoes off indoors household, and bare feet is lovely in the summer, but socks just don't cut it for us in the winter.
Horses for courses, but YABU, Wink!

Good, cozy slippers are hygge!

I'm joining the no slipper camp. Bare feet in summer and socks (normal ones not slipper socks) in winter.

I like to have bare feet as long as it's warm enough and hate having hot feet but for me socks are way worse than slippers. They're so much more restrictive and claustrophobic, slippers much less so. Slippers in winter, bare feet or flip flops in summer.

Have you tried slipper socks with slippers yet for cold winters? Now that's a bliss of cosiness. I don't get how someone can be anti slippers? If you're getting cross that others wear slippers, then I guess YABU. Each to their own.

Slippers - easy to slip on and off. Would never wear them outside - slip them off to put shoes on for the garden or bins. Hate people wearing outdoor footwear in the house (yuk). Slippers stop you hurting yourself if someone opens a door on to your feet or leaves pins/small toys on floor. Easy to kick off when putting feet up on settee.
Slippers - bliss.

I've now started a thread (in style & beauty) about the best socks...

I have a tier of slippers:

Summer: open toed, towelling sliders
Spring/Autumn: bog standard slippers from Tesco
When it's fucking freezing: fake uggs

Jenny i am with you about Mahabis. Fantastic.
And how exactly do slippers put you in the middle age category but Crocs don't???! Anyone beyond 12 wearing them looks .... Well.... Crugly?

I hate slippers. I never wear them. Don't really like socks that much although if really chilly I may wear them for an hour. I walk round the house, trot out to the washing line, pop something in their, go to the car for forgotten coats/bags/lunchboxes etc. I've even gone out to retrieve washing from the garage in the snow barefoot. I will wear shoes when I go out but anywhere I can bear feet all the way.

Being very clumsy and forever stubbing toes on furniture, slippers are a must for me to prevent broken toes.

But isn't there's just something irredeemably ridiculous and naffo about slippers? I always have to try not to laugh when I visit someone's house and they are shuffling about in slippers. They then hold forth about particle accelerators and I cannot possibly take them seriously as they sit there in their tartan bootees.

Imagine Donald Trump in slippers. He'd never get elected. I can see Hillary in them, mind. Bet she's a fan.

^^ Lighthearted. Don't want the swarms of slipper fanatics hounding me off Mumsnet. I know they can be a touch sensitive when it comes to mahabis, mules and moccasins.

Use Fitflops flip flops in the summer and Fitflop Snugmoc slippers in the winter. Fitflop mules for going out to the bins.. Hard floors and plantar faciatis not a good combination . But did feel I aged 10 years when I bought the slippers.

To me, your statement is similar to, you don't getting why you need to eat your food with fork/spoon/knife and you'd rather eat with your fingers.

I have some I to wear in hospital as you sometimes need to walk to theatre in slippers and robe and to wear walking around the ward/in the communal bathrooms (have had 20 operations in last 10 years so lots of hospital inpatient time) Never wear at home.

I developed plantar fasciitis during my first pregnancy. The extra weight and hardwood floors did it. Soft-lined slippers on top of a rug are the only way for me to get out of bed without agony now. Plus the cold kitchen tiled floor is painful without protection in the winter. Love them now but I never understood the point of them until then.

My favourite slippers in winter were zip up the front bootees with hard wedge soles which I wore all the time even in the autumn/spring gardening. Sadly after years the 2 pairs I had bought fell apart at the soles and never found the same type again.

when I was young and working I didn't wear sllppers at home but never went bare foot.

Someone mentioned zip up bootee slippers upthread. They always remind me of the Mighty Boosh episode, . In his quest to outwit Nanageddon, they follow her to a bingo hall. Vince becomes distracted by wanting to win the zippy slippers.

I wear sandals with instep support as slippers - a bit like granny sandals they are slip on and I wear them all year round with fluffy socks in winter. Can wear them inside and out ...have more than one pair so if it is wet etc outside I swap for my outdoor ones - one summer I forgot to change into my shoes and I went out wearing them with socks Blush - don't think anyone noticed ....they didn't comment on it anyway...
I had microwave slippers - and they were ok - but I found didn't stay warm for long but I now have the best foot warmer in the world ...
It is this www.patin-a.de/pi/en/Saenger-Footwarmers-with-Hot-Water-Bottle-20-l.html
I actually bought it directly from Germany and got DP to give it to me for Christmas last year...
You can't walk in it (has a hot water bottle in it!) but when I am working and sitting at my desk it is toasty bliss....
Did notice you can now get other versions on Amazon but they don't seem as snuggly as this one ...
