To not get slippers?

user1476140278 · 14/10/2016 09:24

I just don't understand the need for slippers. I know people get cold feet...I do...so I wear socks.

If I need to go outside I put on shoes or flip flops...I wouldn't go outside in slippers and then wear them on the carpets...

My friend is insistent her children wear slippers indoors all the time.

She says they might slip over on the floor...mine never slipped! We, like her have hard floors...if their feet are all day in shoes and slippers, when do they get a chance to...I don't know...be free!?

Oooh, I love mine, they're sheepskin and so cosy. I get really cold feet and they keep them much warmer than socks do. Plus they're so comfy on tired feet at the end of the day.

My kids have slippers but I only insist they wear them if their feet feel very cold.

When you step up in something wet on your floor, or need to pop outside.

I live in slippers at home, even while wearing socks. Our house is mostly laminate though so there isn't comfy carpet to walk on.

My feet are constantly cold and fluffy slippers just dont do it. The kids wear slippers in the hose as its freezing. Homeys slippers all the way they are £££ but have had this pair since last christmas and wear them all day when in house. I can get the coal, do a bin run and they are super. They show no signs of holes or wear so im hoping they will do at least another year.

I wear flip flops - I have an indoor pair and an outdoor pair that I keep beside the front door if I need to go to the bin etc. My indoor pair are kept clean for the purpose of my new carpets. I tend to walk around in bare feet though as I suffer terribly with pompholyx eczema on my feet, therefore like my feet to 'breathe' as wearing shoes/boots all day excerbate the problem. My son does wear slippers (his choice) and my husband should wear slippers on the advice of his consultant as he's diabetic and any damage to his feet whilst bare can have disasterous consequences, but other than that, nope yanbu

Controversially, I like socks AND slippers. Slippers make my feet sweat and socks are too slippy. Perfect combo

They make my feet sweaty. Which is a proper shame, because I love slippers Sad

I bought a beautiful pair of leather clogs, but when I started wearing them outside, I realised they were too big, my feet kept slipping. I had bought them in anther town and returning them was impossible. So they became my houseshoes. Easy to slip on, they fit over big fuzzy socks and make me tall enough to easily work at my kitchen counter - I am quite short. They were similar to these.

".I wouldn't go outside in slippers and then wear them on the carpets..."

Do people do that?

They're slippers!

Easy to slip off & then on again!Grin

I can't bear to be without slippers! Socks are not warm enough (wood and slate floors downstairs), plus I always seem to drop things on my toes if I am only wearing socks. I pop flip flops on to go outside and always take my skippers off when I go upstairs (carpets). I am in the minority in my house though! Partner wears nothing or flipflops at a push (he actually hates my slippers, don't really know why?) and my 4yr old dd wears nothing at all ever - even in the dead of winter.

My grandma was obsessed with slippers. Wouldn't take so much as a step without them.

I don't do slippers either. I had to buy some recently for a hospital stay and I wore them once Angry

I wear big thick chunky socks or slipper socks in winter, bare feet / flip-flops in summer. I have slip on shoes for bin runs.

DS has bare feet even in winter...usually spends a couple of hours after school with one sock on, one sock off until the second gets cast under the sofa or somewhere Grin

Slippers are lovely!

If I may coin a phrase - Are you on glue?

I can't stand slippers. They are so bloody naff.

I do however, have some Uggs (I also hate them, but will wear them in the house) for when it's very cold.

Hardwood flooring here. No slippers but have indoor crocs and outdoor crocs for the garden/taking bin out etc.
My feet get sore walking around on the hardwood floor and it's a bit slidy.
Btw my sister was pottering about her house in socks on a hardwood floor and randomly slipped and broke her wrist!

I wear them now I have got older..My DS I have refused to buy anymore as he never wears them even when his feet are freezing.

I have a few pairs of slippers although completely agree with OP that they are pretty much redundant if you own socks.
Except my microwaveable slippers when it's super cold. You can't walk in them but they keep your toes nice and toasty.

Socks aren't enough for me with hard floors, my feet freeze. I have thick thermal socks and big fluffy boot slippers for winter. Crocs with fluffy liners for outside.

Report
Senga67 · 15/10/2016 20:25

Crocs all the way for me.The day I start wearing slippers will be the day I know I'm on the 'slippery' slope to being 'a bit elderly'. But whatever floats yer boat.

Report
Vixster99 · 15/10/2016 20:26

Both.

Fuzzy socks round the house during the winter, barefoot most of the time in the summer. Slippers usually in the kitchen or when using the vac etc, just for a bit of protection. When I'm sat down on the sofa I tend to sit on one foot, so the slippers would be off by then anyway.

I have some old flyflot sandals I slip on when I go into the garden (emptying the bin or hanging out washing etc) but I don't wear them round the house.
They look great worn with brightly coloured fluffy socks Grin

I like the idea of them but never end up wearing them. Same with dressing gowns. I'm get hot pretty easily but dream of being able to snuggle up in all these cosy things!

If I dont wear slippers I always get wet socks in the kitchen from dog footprints or spilled water. I have furry lined boot ones.

I would be embarrassed to say how many pairs of slippers I have. I even have multiples of the same ones that I love, packed up ready to take out when mine where out because I love them so much.

I try to avoid the threads about slippers here because I always end up clicking on the links and buying some. I need help! Shock
