To not get slippers?

user1476140278 · 14/10/2016 09:24

I just don't understand the need for slippers. I know people get cold feet...I do...so I wear socks.

If I need to go outside I put on shoes or flip flops...I wouldn't go outside in slippers and then wear them on the carpets...

My friend is insistent her children wear slippers indoors all the time.

She says they might slip over on the floor...mine never slipped! We, like her have hard floors...if their feet are all day in shoes and slippers, when do they get a chance to...I don't know...be free!?

Controversially, I like socks AND slippers.

Wait, is this not what everyone does? I only wear just slippers for very brief amounts of time, like going to make a cup of tea before my morning shower. Surely if you habitually wore just slippers they would be smelly? They're not the easiest thing to wash!

MrsPnut · 15/10/2016 20:32

I always wear slippers, these are my current pair. www.giesswein.com/en/damen/schuhe/hausschuhe/veitsch-s52.html.html
I need a pair that have good enough soles to be able to go outside and they need to be warm.

ChickenVindaloo · 15/10/2016 20:34

Slippers keep your socks clean and therefore the sofa clean when you go to loll on it. Have a look at the bottom of your socks right now, those of you who don't wear slippers. Grease from the kitchen floor/pet hair/fluff from the bathroom - even if you have a clean house, I bet you your socks are dirty.
I pop my slippers in the washing machine every couple of weeks, especially if I've just mopped the floors.

... :(

Notso · 15/10/2016 20:35

I have to wear them because of plantar fasciitis. I always thought walking around with bare feet was good for feet, apparantly not.
My kids have slippers but rarely wear them.
DH loves slippers and has a pair of Homeys.
MIL is slightly obsessive about slippers, she has loads and often buys them for us too. She likes to keep them on the hearth in her house which is fine but she gets all our slippers out of the hall or bedrooms and puts them on our hearth when she babysits Confused Its not even like we have a working fire to warm them.

ChickenVindaloo · 15/10/2016 20:36

And I never wear my slippers outside. And I take them off when I put my feet on the sofa. And I always wear socks too, so they don't get sweaty or smelly.

Justontherightsideofnormal · 15/10/2016 20:36

I have entered the slipper wearing age 🙄 Feel naked without them

ChickenVindaloo · 15/10/2016 20:37

ALWAYS WEAR SLIPPERS WHEN YOU STAY IN A HOTEL
Then you won't get verrucas.
Leave a pair in your suitcase so you don't forget.
I NEVER put my bare foot on a hotel room bathroom floor or carpet.
You're welcome.

MargaretCavendish · 15/10/2016 20:39

But surely you are putting your bare feet in the hotel shower/bath, Chicken?

Ruhrpott · 15/10/2016 20:40

I love my fluffy crocs with the removable fluffy inner lining which I shove in the washing machine when they get smelly and I can go outside in them

9troubledwaters · 15/10/2016 20:42

Because my kitchen floor is bloody freezing, it gets actually painful in just socks!!

acornsandnuts · 15/10/2016 20:46

Slippers are gross. It's like wearing socks for six months without washing them.

Fluffy bacterial growth fungal infection breeding hell shoes.

hiccupgirl · 15/10/2016 20:47

I always used to have bare feet all year round but a combination of getting older and loosing weight has meant my feet get really cold now.

I love fluffy slippers but I buy machine washable ones as I don't wear socks with them. I hate the tight feeling of socks and am desperate to take them off by the time I get home from work.

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 15/10/2016 20:47

Love my slippers. First thing I do is get out of shoes that make my feet so sore on the bottoms after walking a lot, and sink into slippers. That extra padding on the bottom is so much more comfortable than just socks. Warmer, too. But it's mostly the padding, on sore blistery feet, such a relief.

I'm also prone to slipping in fluffy socks. Normal socks aren't always warm enough or cosy enough in winter.

I need slippers that have a proper heel though, as otherwise I tense the wrong muscles trying to get them to stay on. Proper slip in ones with good soft foam soles. One of the few things I will miss BHS for, memory foam slippers that are the right shape for me, and come in proper sizes instead of one size fits all (which is clearly not true!)

I also wear socks with slippers, when it gets cold enough for slippers.

I thought that that was how it went-bare feet, socks, socks & slippers!

(urrently in the just socks stageGrin)

Inertia · 15/10/2016 20:48

Yabu. Slippers are brilliant.

You need some Bobs.

ChickenVindaloo · 15/10/2016 20:50

Yes, I have to put my feet in the shower in hotels but I reckon the hot running water kills the germs. And the porcelain isn't a good material for germs to grow on.

On the other hand, hotel carpet

ChickenVindaloo · 15/10/2016 20:52

Good point though, in the gym I shower with flipflops on. I should do the same in hotels.

Kidnapped · 15/10/2016 20:53

I have indoor trainers (nice ones that I never wear outside).

I like the support. Slippers feel a bit like they just dangle on the end of your feet without contributing anything. The Andrew Ridgeley of footwear.

DP, though, ponces about in furry bootee type slippers in the winter. With, ahem, Velcro fastenings. He looks ridiculous and adorable at the same time.

PlumsGalore · 15/10/2016 20:53

I never got it until I was bought my first pair of UGG slippers and I was sold. These days I don't buy ludicrous expensive branded slippers but I do buy genuine 100% sheepskin slippers, often from outlets or TK Maxx. I get a new pair at around £25 every 18 months. They are fabulous.

jennielou75 · 15/10/2016 20:55

I never wore slippers till I bought myself mahabis.....now they are always in my feet. Expensive but so worth it.

RubbishMantra · 15/10/2016 20:57

Barefoot. As soon as I get in the house socks and shoes come off. I keep a pair next to the back door, for putting rubbish out. I mostly potter about in the garden barefoot (weather permitting).

I occasionally wear back door slippers to sidle around my lovely living room rug, to the front door, to shuffle across the road to put a letter in the post box. Grin

I have one of those battery operated rolly hard skin removers for feets though. Otherwise they'd feel like a rhino's hide.

Judydreamsofhorses · 15/10/2016 20:59

Love slippers. I have Uggs, and backless mule things for just after the shower. When we go away I hate pottering about in bare feet in a hotel room.

GabsAlot · 15/10/2016 21:03

slipperfs boil my feet then they stink after a while
