To not get slippers?

user1476140278 · 14/10/2016 09:24

I just don't understand the need for slippers. I know people get cold feet...I do...so I wear socks.

If I need to go outside I put on shoes or flip flops...I wouldn't go outside in slippers and then wear them on the carpets...

My friend is insistent her children wear slippers indoors all the time.

She says they might slip over on the floor...mine never slipped! We, like her have hard floors...if their feet are all day in shoes and slippers, when do they get a chance to...I don't know...be free!?

Bunny ears and a tail.....Christ, words fail me 😀

VoldysGoneMouldy · 15/10/2016 22:14

Slippers are one of the only things that make me wonder if there is a god. They are a wonderful wonderful thing.

ratspeaker · 15/10/2016 22:16

I dont like slippers, prefer bare feet

But

Lined crocs. Oh yes.

Stoneagemum · 15/10/2016 22:16

I'm a slippers or flip flops in summer person as I'm a slatern and the floors make a mess of socks or bare feet Blush

stealthsquiggle · 15/10/2016 22:17

Having read a bit more of the thread now, I feel the need to point out that I only wear slippers in winter (I rarely wear shoes inside or out in summer) and always wear socks as well. Slippers and no socks = stinky slippers.

0urKid · 15/10/2016 22:17

I have Dunlop ones. They have fake fur inside but proper soles so no need to change for a quick trip to the bins or washing line. I don't make kids wear them and I let them go barefoot as much as possible. However we do have carpet. Might feel different if we just had open flooring.

Undersmile · 15/10/2016 22:20

We have hard floors, we all wear slippers, with socks so no stinkiness here.
It's way too cold not to.

CheerfullyIndifferent · 15/10/2016 22:25

I love buying slippers and not wearing them Grin I'm a hopeless barefooter, even outside - if I'm wearing socks indoor and need to pop out to the bins or the garden, I'll often leave the socks by the door and go barefoot.

MissPattie · 15/10/2016 23:33

Are Mahabis actually warm and comfy? They look a bit firm.

I have a pair of lovely Ugg slippers but they are getting worn and I may ask for a new pair of very snugly ones for Christmas. No need for hard sole. Any recommendations?

Crocs over fluffy socks work for me (and are a great look Grin)

Also, Crocs cure leg cramp.

0urKid · 16/10/2016 00:03

These are the sexy slippers I bought. Dh can't keep his hands off me when I'm sporting these bad boys.

To not get slippers?

The Andrew Ridgeley of footwear.
I laughed until I cried Grin

RubyGoat · 16/10/2016 00:17

Because... I feel my NN indicates my opinion on this issue. Grin

robinia · 16/10/2016 00:37

No slippers here. Dogs, cats, wooden floors but still no slippers.
In the very depths of winter I'll wear socks.
At hotels etc. I'll take a pair of flipflops.
Bare feet are healthier :)

Fortitudine · 16/10/2016 01:31

I've worn Celtic sheepskin company's slippers for years now. Not cheap but lovely and warm. I take slipper socks with me if I go away, the afghan knitted type with a soft leather sole - I'm a bit of an old hippy at heart, but with warm feet.

The ultimate proof that slippers are cool:

user1474781546 · 16/10/2016 06:11

My feet get too cold for just socks. Downstairs is mostly wooden flooring throughout and I hate cooking in just socks, standing on a dribble of water with socks on is a pet hate of mine.

DodiGilbert · 16/10/2016 08:46

The first thing I do when I get home is put my slippers on. Might make me a little old lady like, but they're so comfy and my toesies are so cosy I just don't care. Grin

Melawen · 16/10/2016 09:01

I only wear slippers through autumn/winter but I do love my woolly bootees! I definitely feel warmer when wearing them - they have a soft sole though so I have a pair of shoe wellies for the garden.

I don't think I've had a pair since Brownie camp c. 1982.

I like to be barefoot as much as possible.

blissfullyaware · 16/10/2016 13:38

@TheGirlOntheLanding - Grin that made me laugh. I am definitely going down that road!

I couldn't be with out slippers. I have a stone kitchen floor and I can't bear how cold my feet get. I wish now I'd paid for underfloor heating but it was so expensive to do it. Slippers much cheaper!

I get frustrated when the cheaper sort wear out quickly so I have discovered Mosholu slippers which have really good hard wearing bottoms (so you could actually nip outside to empty rubbish without having to change shoes- I know I am lazy) and they last for ages.

The ones I have are quite trendy looking this time (for a change) more ballerina pump style with a zebra animal print kind of thing.

I wouldn't make anyone else in my house wear slippers - none of them bother - its their choice really

belgina · 16/10/2016 15:24

I wear slippers and socks too. In my country tiled floors are the norm, so I grew up wearing slippers indoors. I wear them because:

  1. just socks isn't enough in winter
  2. to keep my feet clean & dry especially in the kitchen
  3. to protect socks. The heels of your socks last much longer if you wear slippers.

In summer I wear Crocs indoors.
At night you will find me snuggled up on the sofa with pjs, socks & dressing gown & possibly a blanket. I get cold easily!

SunnySideForever · 16/10/2016 16:54

I prefer bare feet indoors unless it's too cold - we have mostly carpets though.

For me slippers are basically just shoes - just as restricting but none of the advantages! Bare feet are best unless it gets too cold...

PresidentOliviaMumsnet · 16/10/2016 17:38

@LotisBlue

Because there are normally bits of squished food / small plastic toys waiting for me to tread on them.

This
I never got them either.
I have rubber soled ones that are like ballet shoes but lined with softness
I would wear them all the time if I could
I miss them in the summer but they are too hot
