To not get slippers?

I just don't understand the need for slippers. I know people get cold feet...I do...so I wear socks.

If I need to go outside I put on shoes or flip flops...I wouldn't go outside in slippers and then wear them on the carpets...

My friend is insistent her children wear slippers indoors all the time.

She says they might slip over on the floor...mine never slipped! We, like her have hard floors...if their feet are all day in shoes and slippers, when do they get a chance to...I don't know...be free!?

Our house & floors are always so cold that slippers have been essential the last couple of weeks & will be until march.

Before living here I never wore slippers.

Slippers are for old people.

My mother, who died aged 80, refused to wear slippers for that very reason.

I love slippers, they are warm and cosy. I get very cold feet and also cant stand treading on "bits" on the floor (worst was a worm the cat brought in). Socks dont do it for me. I got a lovely pair of slippers in Greece made from felt and lambswool. They are so warm and comfy, and only 12€

I have cold feet and love slippers. I have lovely ballet style ones. Slippers don't have to be for old people! I even take them to friend's houses in winter, if they have a no shoes rule!

I never used to wear them. Now I always do....and even take them away if I'm going somewhere in the UK. I hate cold feet.

An orthopaedic surgeon I spoke to was very clear that people shouldn't wear shoes at home as they are the prime cause of bunions.

Oooooh i must wear slippers at home. In a quest to feel less frumpy I have a beautiful pair from Toast from last winter. Cannot bear dreadful make your feet stink cheapie slippers! Just bought kids 4pairs of totes slipper socks to wear around the house as hate the 'where are you slippers' discussion always, so intend to litter the offending items around the house so no chance of chilly feet. Stripped floors, plus daughter has terrible circulation means slippers necessary at Casa Hig.

Slipper-things can be lovely if you like an indulgence, but they aren't a uniform!

I like bare everything, but practicalities limit that. Underwear stops things from wobbling painfully, a gown keeps you warm, and slippers shield you from hard or sharp ground.

Outside you must wear your uniform. Inside your own house, do what you like best!

Are there other rules in force here that you haven't told us about?

DD always wears slippers and moans if I am barefoot because she hates feet (apparently!). Must be a teenage thing!

My feet just aren't warm enough without slippers. Socks aren't enough.

It's only the start of Autumn and today I have two pairs of lounging socks and one pair of ordinary socks on because my feet are like blocks of ice.
Slippers are law for me, the sight of my daughters bare feet except when it's very cold makes me feel quite ill.

I wear sandals with instep support as slippers - a bit like granny sandals they are slip on and I wear them all year round with fluffy socks in winter. Can wear them inside and out ...have more than one pair so if it is wet etc outside I swap for my outdoor ones - one summer I forgot to change into my shoes and I went out wearing them with socks Blush - don't think anyone noticed ....they didn't comment on it anyway...
I had microwave slippers - and they were ok - but I found didn't stay warm for long but I now have the best foot warmer in the world ...
It is this www.patin-a.de/pi/en/Saenger-Footwarmers-with-Hot-Water-Bottle-20-l.html
I actually bought it directly from Germany and got DP to give it to me for Christmas last year...
You can't walk in it (has a hot water bottle in it!) but when I am working and sitting at my desk it is toasty bliss....
Did notice you can now get other versions on Amazon but they don't seem as snuggly as this one ...

Someone mentioned zip up bootee slippers upthread. They always remind me of the Mighty Boosh episode, . In his quest to outwit Nanageddon, they follow her to a bingo hall. Vince becomes distracted by wanting to win the zippy slippers.

My favourite slippers in winter were zip up the front bootees with hard wedge soles which I wore all the time even in the autumn/spring gardening. Sadly after years the 2 pairs I had bought fell apart at the soles and never found the same type again.

when I was young and working I didn't wear sllppers at home but never went bare foot.

I developed plantar fasciitis during my first pregnancy. The extra weight and hardwood floors did it. Soft-lined slippers on top of a rug are the only way for me to get out of bed without agony now. Plus the cold kitchen tiled floor is painful without protection in the winter. Love them now but I never understood the point of them until then.

I have some I to wear in hospital as you sometimes need to walk to theatre in slippers and robe and to wear walking around the ward/in the communal bathrooms (have had 20 operations in last 10 years so lots of hospital inpatient time) Never wear at home.

To me, your statement is similar to, you don't getting why you need to eat your food with fork/spoon/knife and you'd rather eat with your fingers.

Use Fitflops flip flops in the summer and Fitflop Snugmoc slippers in the winter. Fitflop mules for going out to the bins.. Hard floors and plantar faciatis not a good combination . But did feel I aged 10 years when I bought the slippers.

But isn't there's just something irredeemably ridiculous and naffo about slippers? I always have to try not to laugh when I visit someone's house and they are shuffling about in slippers. They then hold forth about particle accelerators and I cannot possibly take them seriously as they sit there in their tartan bootees.

Imagine Donald Trump in slippers. He'd never get elected. I can see Hillary in them, mind. Bet she's a fan.

^^ Lighthearted. Don't want the swarms of slipper fanatics hounding me off Mumsnet. I know they can be a touch sensitive when it comes to mahabis, mules and moccasins.

Being very clumsy and forever stubbing toes on furniture, slippers are a must for me to prevent broken toes.

I hate slippers. I never wear them. Don't really like socks that much although if really chilly I may wear them for an hour. I walk round the house, trot out to the washing line, pop something in their, go to the car for forgotten coats/bags/lunchboxes etc. I've even gone out to retrieve washing from the garage in the snow barefoot. I will wear shoes when I go out but anywhere I can bear feet all the way.
