To think it's not on to shout abuse out the window at people!?

I was walking into town yesterday when a white van drove past me and a man shouted fatty out the window at me Angry

I'm absolutely mortified and so glad that I was on my own I would have died if there was anyone with me!

I am rather fat at the moment, I had twins less than a year ago and I'm struggling to find time to exercise but surely even if I was 25 stone or something it doesn't give someone the right to embarrass me like that.

Don't know why I'm posting really but I can't tell anyone in real life and it's really bothering me.

Of course it's not on. I hate it when this kind of thing happens. Just reassure yourself that this guy was a complete knob head who can't possibly find joy in anything because he's too busy looking at the size of people's arses.

Plus, he's thick and you're not.

HighDataUsage · 12/05/2016 13:27

Yes this is the season for drivers to shout abuse at pedestrians. I get more racist abuse from drivers in the summer than I do in the winter.

ABCAlwaysBeCunting · 12/05/2016 13:32

I'd tell him that you can lose weight but he'll always be a cunt.

Sprinklesontop · 12/05/2016 13:34

That's the annoying part I didn't even get chance to say anything because they were driving.

High data that's awful that it's a regular thing for you.

YANBU - this is scummy, like the bloke who was apparently with his kid lobbing stones at me from their passing car while I was on my bike - there is some proper scum around.

gandalf456 · 12/05/2016 13:37

I had someone yell nice Tits at me when picking up my kids

FutureGadgetsLab · 12/05/2016 13:38

YANBU. I had someone throw a drink over me from a car window once. People are such shits.

Antlily · 12/05/2016 13:44

People can be arses. As a young teen I was cycling when I had a lit cigarette flicked at me by a mini bus full of jeering men.

redexpat · 12/05/2016 13:47

Funny how this sort of thing happens less often to men isn't it.

Public space is just that, there for everyone. No one owns it, no one has the right to dominate it in such a way.

sonlypuppyfat · 12/05/2016 13:47

My DD is in my opinion a very attractive young woman, the grief her and her friends get is disgusting, men shouting out of car windows. What goes through these blokes minds?

RDWRER · 12/05/2016 13:49

Imagine having such a sad pathetic life that shouting stuff out of your car windows is the height of entertainment. I think the most infuriating thing about these situations is imaging the driver/passenger patting themselves on the back afterwards for being such a wit. Hmm

Sprinklesontop · 12/05/2016 13:50

I'm actually shocked at how common this seems to be and angry on the behalf of everyone it's happened to. Especially those with children with them or to young girls. I'm so glad my doc weren't with me.

I'm annoyed at myself at how much it's bothered me tbh. I'm dying to tell my husband but I'm too embarrassed Blush

I was yelled at in the car park when putting shopping away. A carful of lads drove past and called me a fat bitch. I was holding ds hand at the time. He was 3. I was upset because ds asked who they were shouting at?! Dh asked if I was ok but I didn't tell him what happened. When we were leaving I saw them parking up so screamed at dh to stop the car. I jumped out and started yelling at them. Blush They wouldn't get out of the car so I started kicking fuck out of it. Dh still had no idea what was up got out of the car to see what was happening. Dh is big and tall. An ex pro rugby player. Someone called the police but I didn't give a flying fuck. As I was being led away I was shouting "That's right! Fat bitches sometimes fight back. "I went home and cried. I was ashamed.

FutureGadgetsLab · 12/05/2016 13:53

Sharon don't feel ashamed! Serves the little shits right!

MilkTooth · 12/05/2016 13:54

Solidarity, OP. As a fat runner in London, I used to get incredible verbal abuse out of car windows, and once had a MacDonalds' milkshake thrown over me.

Collaborate · 12/05/2016 13:55

It's outrageous. A few weeks back I was walking my dog with my wife next to a golf course and there were some enthusiastic but amateur runners doing a short circuit adjacent to the first tee. One of the men there shouted some abuse at one of the women, linked to her weight. There was absolutely no need for it. I was tempted to say something to him, but missed my opportunity and was only 75% sure I'd heard correctly.

People like this are a waste of space. They ought to be ashamed of themselves. The thing is, none of the golfers were male models themselves.

MilkTooth · 12/05/2016 13:55

Good on you, Sharon. Plus you have the best username on Mn. I'm having flashbacks to Adrian Mole's ill-fated roller rink date. Grin

HighDataUsage · 12/05/2016 13:58

If I have my wits about me the next time it happens I will take a photo & post the car/reg plate on my local Facebook page. Time to name and shame the bastards particularly if they are driving a company vehicle. Then I think I will post the reg plate on the company's Twitter account & see what they do about hiring abusive shots.

HighDataUsage · 12/05/2016 14:00

Shits not shots!

BillBrysonsBeard · 12/05/2016 14:01

They are pigs. Just remember that the type of person who does this is a thick, bored, simple minded twat! They are safe in their moving vehicle, no way would they do this face to face. It's just a way for them to feel big because something is missing in their lives. I keep waiting for them to beep me as I'm pretty big at the moment but thankfully hasn't happened (yet). The most van/lorry shouts I got were pervy ones when I was 14.. Worrying..

Best thing is to pretend you haven't noticed because they'll be looking in their mirror to see your reaction.

FutureGadgetsLab · 12/05/2016 14:01

Data That is a really good idea.

CombineBananaFister · 12/05/2016 14:06

yanbu - that time of year when the dickheads aren't stopped from weather and windows up. As a cyclist I gets loads of abuse related to my weight/haircolour not my actual cycling.

They sometimes play a really 'fun' game of 'falloff' bingo where they come up really close to you and shout loudly out the window/let off a bullhorn/ open car door on you - all whilst you're cycling in busy traffic. If you fall off they get a point Sad
Am hoping there is a special place in hell for the twats as more than once i've nearly ended up as roadkill Angry

They are not so confident if you manage to catch up to them at traffic lights and start kicking their door in or shouting back (am not above that) go funnily quiet then.

Don't let them get to you, am sure karma will serve them up something soon.

Sprinklesontop · 12/05/2016 14:07

Sharon good on you! I was hoping they would have to stop at the junction because I would have taken a photo and gave their van a kick.

Milk, I was hoping to start running again this week but it's put me off!

I'm annoyed at myself for giving the twats headspace.

I was walking back from the school run a couple of weeks ago after dropping my eldest off at school, a bloke decided to lean out of his car window a shout 'slag' at meHmm I didn't even recognise the guy! I'm pregnant and emotional as it is so I just rushed the rest of the way home trying not to crySad

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 12/05/2016 14:10

Thanks Milk :o

Strangely (touch wood) I've not had anyone shout anything for a while. Plus I don't actually care anymore. It's like a weight was lifted after that. My sister is 10 years younger than me. She's a model and very beautiful. She gets shouted at all the time in the UK. She said since she's been living in Oz not one person has said anything to her. I have an Irish cousin who said she got comments openly made to her in Jamaica, Egypt and Turkey. No bother about hiding in a speeding vehicle.
