To be annoyed DH knows nothing about female anatomy

DH, to whom I've been married for 15 years, and with whom I've had 3 children, was astonished yesterday when I pointed out that a vulva includes 2 holes. I had to show him a diagram.

Aibu to find this really annoying? I mean I had noticed I did all the childbearing work but he clearly didn't bother to look at a single book or website about pregnancy or even pay attention in all those birth classes. I am still cross.

I would have just laughed at his stupidity. I certainly wouldn't be cross.

I have to say, it twists my melon a bit. I can't work out why sex causes cystitis if it all doesn't go through the same hole, or why they tell you to wee after sex.

Actually, it took me a while to believe he wasn't taking the piss, it seemed so idiotic. I am cross though. Maybe because he's a bit sexist in other ways and I'm projecting though, that's really why I'm canvassing opinions.

My DH, who has an A level in Biology, once argued, yes argued with me that there was only one hole and women urinate out of their vaginas. 10 years later I'm not entirely sure he believes me.

I remember a biology exam when I was at school - I hadn't bothered to revise that bit so just drew a bracket around the whole lot and wrote VAGINA next to it

Yeah, I didn't know this either, until I was in labour and a midwife mentioned it in passing. I nodded sagely while my mind was blown.

I knew my bladder wasn't in my vagina, but I thought the pipe from my bladder joined up somewhere higher up leaving just one general entry/exit point. I'm still not convinced that my anatomy is correct.

YANBU - But, during a recent hospital stay I ended up in a bizarre conversation with my 40 year old friend where I had to inform her that catheters are inserted into the ureathra and not the vagina. She was totally unaware that women had a third hole .

It's not just men though. Some years ago I asked an outpatient for a urine specimen. She was about 23/24 and seemed quite bright. She looked horrified and said she couldn't produce one as she was menstruating and didn't have another tampon with her. I asked her why that was a problem and she looked at me as if I was mad as 'you have to take your tampon out to pee'. I gave her a quick lesson in female anatomy. She was astounded!

I don't think I knew this stuff until I was an adult. I don't think O Level Biology in the early 80s went into too much detail. Tackle the sexism, but don't get sidelined by the lack of anatomical knowledge.

I suppose it's a perfectly reasonable initial understanding of plumbing - men have one tube for sex and wee, so why wouldn't women? But I'd be slightly worried that a man in any sort of adult, reasonably long-term relationship might not have noticed that girls and boys have rather different plumbing....
