To be annoyed DH knows nothing about female anatomy

DH, to whom I've been married for 15 years, and with whom I've had 3 children, was astonished yesterday when I pointed out that a vulva includes 2 holes. I had to show him a diagram.

Aibu to find this really annoying? I mean I had noticed I did all the childbearing work but he clearly didn't bother to look at a single book or website about pregnancy or even pay attention in all those birth classes. I am still cross.

My mum didn't know there were 2 holes either and she's had 3 kids.

She was going into hospital to have a hysterectomy and saying that she had to have a catheter put up her vagina. I was like Hmm you don't wee through your vagina mother - haven't you ever had a look down there? She was likeShock no! Why on earth would no do that?

Well, I must admit to being shocked at being told to push after DD1 was born, I thought everything came out at once. I made sure DD1 knew before she had her baby recently.

Both my little ones know that ladies have three holes, a pee hole, a lady hole (where the baby gets put in and comes out) and a poo hole. They are 9 and 10.

I think DD2s knowledge goes further than that but DS does not want to know.

SilverBirchWithout · 01/05/2016 22:31

I'm surprised that women don't know. Surely you can feel that you are not peeing out of your vagina?

grumpysquash3 · 01/05/2016 22:31

But even if you don't look 'down there', it doesn't feel like you wee out of your vagina.

[Also there's the logistics of weeing while wearing a tampon]

I am honestly amazed by the original post and lots of the comments!!!

BarkGruffalo · 01/05/2016 22:32

I got my mom (sex ed teacher) to draw a diagram when my oh wouldn't believe me. He still thinks the Fallopian tubes are a bit made up.

grumpysquash3 · 01/05/2016 22:32

X post but same thought!

JennyOnAPlate · 01/05/2016 22:32

I find it astonishing that there are women who don't know this. Surely you can tell when you're peeing that it's not coming out of your vagina?? Do they think pee comes from their womb???

NicknameUsed · 01/05/2016 22:33

I'm staggered at the ignorance displayed here. Women know their own bodies, surely? Hmm

SwearyInn · 01/05/2016 22:37

Orange is the new black had a bit of an episode in this very issue!

SilverBirchWithout · 01/05/2016 22:38

As a very young child I always knew I had a pee hole and a poo hole. The vagina knowledge came a bit later when I was about 7 or 8.

I find this incomprehensible.

BrienneofQarth · 01/05/2016 22:39

I honestly thought you were going to say he didn't know where your clit was, or similar. Nowhere near as bad that he isn't aware of something many women don't know about themselves...

Sproutieboolaa · 01/05/2016 22:42

I think it's amazing not to know about your own plumbing arrangements, but clearly lots of people don't. I also think it's amazing not to know about your OH's anatomy, but there we are. I'm intrigued though: I can't see how I could have got through GCSE biology, reading the tampax info leaflet, antenatal appointments, occasional bouts of cystitis, and just plain old weeing, without realising it was a separate tube! Also, if I had thought it was one tube (which I guess could be possible, like your throat going to lungs and stomach), then I'm sure I would have wanted to know how that all worked and I would have looked it up.

If it makes you feel any better my DH asked me a couple of years ago if the clitoris was "that knobbly bit at the front". He was 66 at the time.

He's not sexist though, as he keeps on talking about prostrate problems HmmGrin

thecatsarecrazy · 01/05/2016 22:43

I have to take my tampon out to pee though because it seems to slip down and not feel comfortable after

NicknameUsed · 01/05/2016 22:43

I didn't even do biology at O level (I'm old), but being female I know where everything is. How can anyone not know? Really!

Sproutieboolaa · 01/05/2016 22:43

But my main question was whether this was sexist ignorance. It seems it's just plain ignorance. Good!

Wow!! I am shocked at people's ignorance. Some people really are just STUPID!

Nice Hmm

I'm sure even those of us who are stupid know things that you may not!

NicknameUsed · 01/05/2016 22:49

Livia any woman will know her own anatomy though?

eightbluebirds · 01/05/2016 22:50

How is that even possible for woman to not know this!? How do you think tampons work?

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 01/05/2016 22:51

Well clearly not. I'm a 45 year old woman and I didn't have a clue until relatively recently.

But I'm obviously stupid...

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 01/05/2016 22:52

I don't use tampons

LaBelleOtero · 01/05/2016 22:52

Tbh, it's not like we pee out of our belly buttons, I mean it's all very close together. I always assumed the urethra was at the entrance to the vagina, and it is, give or take a centimetre!

NicknameUsed · 01/05/2016 22:56

"Well clearly not. I'm a 45 year old woman and I didn't have a clue until relatively recently."

I take it you have never had children either?

PaperdollCartoon · 01/05/2016 22:56

Discovered last year that DP didn't know there were 3 holes. He's 26. I found this utterly hilarious and had to show him where everything was!

PattyPenguin · 01/05/2016 22:56

Good grief! I've read part of a rather preachy medieval poem, by a man, which told people not to be proud and haughty because everyone comes out the same way, "between the pee and the poo". I'm paraphrasing, obviously.

If a medieval male poet knew about three outlets, how on earth do people in the 21st century not know?
