To think that shops and pubs are no place for dogs?

We went to the pub for dinner last night. It is a naice pub with a good menu. When we walked in at about 7.30pm there was a cacophony of barking because at least four dogs, owned by different people, had decided to "play," with each other.

This afternoon we were shopping at a little retail park. Lots of little handbag type dogs were being paraded round. One woman even let her two dogs walk all over the rugs on display.

Aibu to think that they shouldn't be there? Why can't the dogs be left at home. Obviously these weren't guide dogs, just pets.

We often take our dog to dog friendly pubs. They are generally only in the bar area, so we have a bar meal whilst she sleeps below my feet. The only shops she's been into is a pet store.

I have no issue with well behaved dogs in places. The issue in your op is not the dogs, it's that they weren't being controlled by their owners IMO.

I don't see the issue with dogs in pubs at all. Shops are a bit different and most people ban them unless they're service dogs.

All the pubs around here provide water bowls for dogs, anyway.

Aw I think there should be more dog friendly places .. Most are better behaved then kids

But a nice dog in a pub, settled in front of the fire or just sitting there waiting to be adored by everyone? I love a nice big fat lab or spaniel in a pub who wants some attention.

I don't see a problem with dogs in pubs and I don't see how the dogs in the pub really caused you a problem either? Unless they were barking for the whole time you were there perhaps.

I don't see dogs in shops as they're not allowed in them around here.

Haha come and live in Switzerland. We were once having a romantic meal, and I got a toe job from a rather forward lab. Luckily I am a dog lover so could see the funny side. However, I find it worrying the amount of toy dogs on eleventy meter leads. One day I am going to fall on said dog, or break an arm. So in answer to your question YANBU & YABU!!

In the countryside, many shops allow dogs as they know people will have been out walking and might call in.

I've never been in a shop or a pub that allowed dogs in, except guide dogs of course. But I can't say it would bother me in a pub, especially if it was an open fire and hillwalkers having a pint after a long walk type place. Unless of course the dog was badly behaved. But then I don't like badly behaved people, of any age, in pubs either...

No, I've just realised that I am lying. We saw loads of dogs in pubs in Belgium. I thought it was quite cute.

If you want a dog around whilst you are eating then do it in your own home, if i wanted a pub meal and theres dogs there then i would not be staying, dog owners should remember that not everyone loves dogs
Dogs in shops are a nono too,

My dog loves going to pubs. Usually falls asleep in the corner/by a fire whilst me and husband sink a few pints and have a natter. Despite being a 40kg German Shepherd, if he's the only dog in the pub quite often people don't notice he's there until we go to leave.

He often gets started on by little yappers though. It's quite funny when he gets fed up with their shit and does a single, deep "woof" back and everyone jumps and looks around like "where did that come from?!"

No dogs in shops around here, dogs are allowed in some pubs, but it's a popular hiking area and I think the pubs would lose a lot of business if walkers couldn't take their dogs in with them. If you don't like dogs in pubs, why don't you go to a dog unfriendly pub? Plenty of them around.

Yeah but they're not sat on the chair opposite you, tucking into a plate of pasta, so why does it matter if you're eating or not?

We holiday with our dog, so when we are out for the day for lunch, she is coming too! She lies under the table, and most people say as we leave they didn't even notice she was there.

Most places also have a resturant area where you can eat away from people with dogs. Just because some people don't like dogs shouldn't mean dogs have to stay at home every time. Luckily we live rurally and dogs are welcome almost everywhere.

a dog was on my 10 hour flight and was barking and weeping. I thought i was hearing things until i saw him

however i dont mind dogs in pubs ect tbh on the flight though the barking was annoying as well as the screaming baby. No it was not a guide dog either

I was in a pub the other day (with my dog) and the elderly woman at the bar infront of me had a massive dog. She was struggling holding the dog and turned round and asked some random lad to hold her dog. He held the dog and the dog took advantage of this guy being un dog savvy and lunged at the table next to the bar and came close to getting a hamburger!

I like dogs everywhere. I think they should be allowed in supermarkets. I love the fact that all the shops in The Lakes let dogs in. I can go into Joules, fat face, etc with the dog and they even have water bowls for the dogs.

A few years ago we went to a restaurant here in Germany. Our first visit there. The owners had a new lab puppy, as we were walking in the lady was walking out with it to a field in front of the restaurant. We got a table, chatted, ordered, the kids watched the puppy playing outside. Just as our food was delivered to our table they brought the puppy back in. It had diarrhea right next to our table. The smell was eyewateringly bad. That was the day I changed my view on dogs in eating establishments.

Excluding guide dogs...

Shops..no and dont understand why people are now bringing them in

Yanbu. Especially not in pubs if they also serve food. I really don't want to be near great slobbering dogs when I'm eating.

This is more to do with the fact there were four dog owners who allowed their animals to bark and play in a pub. To me, that's unacceptable, however having your dog with you, behaving and acting quietly is something that is perfectly normal to me.

Our dog often comes on holiday to Cornwall with us, and always comes when we take the DCs camping, so when we eat out she does too. In 4 and a half years of owning her I don't think she's barked or been a nuisance once. She will snaffle any food anyone drops on the floor, but aside from that she's great. I quite like seeing dogs in pubs and on campsites; they're generally lovely creatures.
