CBeebies weirdness

Jujuheyhey · 22/03/2016 22:44

Home with poorly DD, she is 8 but illness had her regressing into watching CBeebies. Is it just me who reckons Katy from I Can Cook secretly hates kids?

Also wtf is going on in Balamory? Who thought it would be a good idea to have a Scottish policeman trying to dance calypso?!

Hope she's better tomorrow, I can't take another day of it...

Katy I can cook - agree completely. And the terrible songs...

Discopanda · 22/03/2016 22:48

Katy is actually a mum! Balamory is the work of the devil. I have a soft spot for Dinopaws. Cannot stand ITNG but it hypnotises DD2 just long enough for me to put bits away.

Mr Tumble is a wrong'un!

SingingSands · 22/03/2016 22:51

Katy is lovely - my friend's DD was on the show years ago and friend said Katy was lovely with the kids all day. Really patient and kind, listened to their stories, had a giggle with them, ate lunch with them, had photos etc. My friend works in TV and honestly, she will tell it like it is, and has shattered a few illusions I've had about "lovely" tv personalities/actors!

babybythesea · 22/03/2016 22:53

Several years ago I went to something where Katy was performing - an opening of a kids centre I think. She was absolutely brilliant. Sat on a small stool with the kids all round her, chatted, sang to them, got them to sing to her, told a story and got kids up to help her tell it - she interacted totally naturally with them and the kids were spell bound. I was hugely impressed as I really hadn't expected that much of her. Don't know why I hadn't - I think I thought that being with two or three kids on camera is not at all like being with loads of them for real - just because you can do one doesn't mean you can do the other. But she could - DD1 was about 18 months, had no clue who she was, but sat riveted for over half an hour (the longest anyone ever got from her at that age!)

FeckOfffCup · 22/03/2016 22:57

I can't stand Katy from I Can Cook. She's fucking annoying. I feel really mean saying that but the stupid faces, silly voices, scrunched up nose, shit songs, the "can you pretend to be jelly? Wobble wobble wobble", it comes across so try hard and insincere.

I think I've seen most programmes but DS isn't bothered about the majority of them, as long as he catches the twirlywoos every now and then he's happy!

Bogeyface · 22/03/2016 23:25

Singing so who is (allegedly) vile then compared to their "nice" image?

I hope Justin is nice, I really do!

Feckoff I feel the same about cringey performances on kids TV, but the fact is that the kids love it. Katey was DDs favourite, she knows all the songs, she would join in the "wobble wobble" stuff. We are viewing it as adults, but is kids TV aimed at kids and if DD is any judge, it works! Dont get me started on the Twirlywoos and their holier than fucking thou "fruit tea". :o

Smurfing · 22/03/2016 23:30

The presenter on Same Smile (Nisha?) - now that's a woman who looks and acts like she can't stand kids don't blame her

Bogeyface · 22/03/2016 23:34

Is she the one with the three teddy bears?

She is definitely doing that because its a TV gig and not because she feels an afinity with kids TV!

Tiggywinkler · 22/03/2016 23:39

I think I'd be friends with Katy in real life; she looks like she'd mainline gin after a day of childcare too.

Yes to that Same Smile woman Smurf - she's so supercilious.

It's Miss Hoolie that I feel sorry for - not only is that the worst wig on TV style-wise, it looks like it needs de-greasing too.

Fizrim · 22/03/2016 23:41

I have also seen Katy do a live show and a meet/greet/photo thing with children and she was really lovely, gave lots of hugs.

MrRochestersDog · 22/03/2016 23:43

Met Justin last year - he was really lovely to my DS.

MummaB123 · 22/03/2016 23:46

Katy is just too good to be true. And bugs the hell out of me!

Birthgeek · 22/03/2016 23:49

FeckOfffCup

I Can Cook was filmed a long, long time before Katy had her first baby a year or two ago. I remember reading an interview with her as a new mum, and she was a bit "omg, I was so OTT back then, parents must have hated me!"

I notice she's now more toned down when doing the links in the 'cbeebies house'.

zen1 · 22/03/2016 23:50

I always think Mr Maker looks terrified of kids when he's out and about doing his roadshows.

FullMoonDiva · 22/03/2016 23:53

My family member had Justin stay over at his hotel and said he was one of the most rude, obnoxious and snappy 'celeb' guests he'd had

mrsmeerkat · 22/03/2016 23:54

listen .. forget cbeebiesvand treat yourselves to Shaun the Sheep dvds

best thing about having dc 😃

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 22/03/2016 23:58

What's the story in Bala-fucking-mory?
Still love that show. and the thick of it
Probably because I used to talk back sarcastically to Miss Hooley while being awed at her ability to delegate her job to randoms.
Or because Archie is rhymed with arty but sounds like warty
Or because my other half used to do very dodgy lyrics to PC Plum taking it up the bum
Or because Spencer became a bus driver in real life his daughter became an award winning porn star

Fatmomma99 · 23/03/2016 00:00

Justin was in panto when my DD was about 3 (she's 14 now) and we went to see it. She spent the entire show bellowing "Justin, It's me... Fatmomma99's Daughter" from the penultimate back row in the God's.

Did you know he's the voice of both the boys in the Teenies (do they still show that?) Jake and the other one.

He was great in the panto, and my DD (well, actually DH) wrote to him afterwards, ("Tell Justin I love him very much and I will give him a big kiss") and he sent DD a signed photo, which is STILL up on display in her room.

Not a word against.

No idea who Katy is... the world moves on!

BTW, DD spent several months bellowing "Justin, I've SEEN YOU" whenever he was on the screen following the panto. No idea what the neighbours made of it!

novemberchild · 23/03/2016 00:04

I've always felt that Archie has a dark secret, but I don't know what. It's been bothering me for 13 years...

SheHasAWildHeart · 23/03/2016 00:12

Is Archie the comedian Miles Jupp? I love him.

Birthgeek · 23/03/2016 00:14

Nobody remembers Space Pirates. The intro music was cool.

novemberchild · 23/03/2016 00:17

The very same, WildHeart. He's easy on the eyes :)

FeckOfffCup · 23/03/2016 00:22

Bogeyface it's weird cos the others don't irritate me really (with maybe the exception of Andy..) I do find they're better in the Cbeebies house(?) set thing and less annoying. I get kids love it but it's still irritating.
The twirlywoos is a pretty bizarre programme I admit, DS is enthralled by it though for some reason Confused
